    My son is 26 years old and has severe autism! He has epilepsy a form of muscular dystrophy, epilepsy and a feeding tube! He’s a true blessing to me! When my son was diagnosed at three, resources weren’t as prevalent as they are now! Thank you for addressing this issue within our community!

    Ppl really need to research about autism it's really hard to deal with not only for the individual who has it but for the caretakers too bc I'm a parent of an autistic child he's nine now and he was diagnosed at 3 but he's achieved and conquered milestones that I didn't think he would so I wish the best to All the kids with autism and their caretakers God bless and stay strong!!

      @@purposedpatience6597 idk what realm of the spectrum ur son is on but I have a question since he's older......is he more independent and understanding of what he needs to do for himself? It's just very hard I'm just so worried about when his father or myself isn't around how he will survive in this cruel world! It's very saddening to me (hell I'm tearing up now)

      Yeah..my sister's 5yo son is autistic, & now ADHD. She loves him & takes good care of him..but it's hard, expensive & lonely. She's often overwhelmed & occasionally suicidal. He's her only child & she's devastated that their lives will forever be "abnormal" while she watches the normalcy of her friends & their kids. She's not having more kids out of fear of having another special needs child. I try to help her focus on his abilities instead of his disabilities. 🙏🙏for you all❤

      So True it's extremely hard I have a 2 year old on the spectrum I can't even take her with me to the grocery store so many things cause her to get overstimulated and she has alot of meltdowns it's very stressful all the excessive crying. I could tell something was different because she was my second child and she did alot of repetitive things and she makes humming sounds to keep herself calm.

Then the therapist raised other concerns and when discussed with the pediatrician she immediately took me serious and did a referral to a behavioral health pediatrician . Around the same time I reached out to the school and asked for Eval . The early childhood program diagnosed her first at age 4 then the specialist did another in-depth eval and agreed

    I have a great-nephew 7 years old he is on the low end spectrum of autism. I heard of it but just thought he was acting out are just being bad at the age of 3 or 4. I spanked his little legs and my niece his mom got him tested. I end up apologizing to him because I didn't know anything about Autism and my niece educated me on it and now I know better when I see a child acting out I don't judge them like I use to ... I would say, he or she needs a whippin... now when I see it. I now say, he or she may be autistic...and I am more empathetic and know that it should be discussed more and educate our selves more when we see this in public or anywhere. Its not just a "Black Thing" it affects everyone. I love him sooooo much more now than before and he loves me just as much.... #LovetheAutisticChild... they are very articulate and sooo amazing I enjoy him so much ❤

My sister moved out of a zip code where her son was in a school with excellent Special Needs services & he was thriving. Now she's experiencing the same thing u are in her new school district. The key is to live in communities with the most academic, social & psychological support services..and stay there. 🙏🙏for u.

    Autism in black children was never talked about when I was younger, but it was the 90s. I had my diagnosis back in 1995 which explains why I always have negative feelings towards myself and I ended up turning to drinking later in my adult life. Especially when all the men I can easily attract are always either nerds/geeks, losers who are worse than I am, and broke men. My preference in men no matter what race is athletic men who know how to manage their finances.

    It's important to not use functioning labels when discussing Autism. There's no such thing as "low" "mild" "severe" or "high" functioning Autism. A person is Autistic or they're not. Their support needs are what should be the focus not functioning.

    • @SandyCheeks007
      @SandyCheeks007 Рік тому +2

      I get what you’re saying but as a person with high functioning autism, it’s more beneficial for someone like me to say high functioning so ppl don’t stick you in a box & mistreat you. I can’t relate to the labels “special needs” and “intellectually disabled” that ppl repeatedly say. Those labels feel like curse words but some Autistic ppl are that. It’s a double edged sword & bc it’s a Spectrum everything won’t fit everyone. I believe in self-preservation

    • @rahbeeuh
      @rahbeeuh Рік тому

      @@SandyCheeks007 I understand where you're coming from as well. If I tell someone I'm Autistic and they treat me different it comes from their ignorance of what Autism is. I've been called "high functioning" and don't wish to be called that. It doesn't accurately describe Autism for me. I read somewhere that only 30% of Autistics have an ID. "Special needs" is an outdated term from my understanding and conversations with disability advocates. Functioning labels are rooted in ableism and I won't participate in that. Continuing to use them only gives allistic (non-Autistic) people the okay to use them as well. I'd rather not. I don't see myself any different from other Autistic people. I may not experience life the same way but we are what I call neurokin. So if someone wants to group me in with them I don't really mind. It'll be an educational moment at best

    I knew something was different with my son from the time he was 3 months old beating himself in the head with his rattle until I switched to a pediatrician who took my concerns seriously and had him tested at the age of 3 1/2y/0. Early diagnosis is one thing but once u get that and are approved for treatments get involved as much as u can and don't expect to have the tss, therapists and such "fix" ur child.. you and ur family involvement r a vital part of their progress. Without ur involvement in this teamwork network, ur child will never grow. It takes a village and the village does involve you. And if the ppl who are assigned to ur child don't take the time to educate and support u then don't be afraid to let them go and look elsewhere. The team that's right for ur child is the team that revels in ur involvement. With all this being said, expect to continue to fight for services and the welfare of ur child especially if they're nonverbal and always trust ur instincts if u think something may be going wrong. Saving the peace is a nice thought but saving ur baby from possible abuse and neglect is everything. Miracles, progress, success and happiness can be the future for u and ur family but only if ur willing to work for it and like with most things, it gets better and easier with time. Love and peace parents .. You got this!💜💖💙
