loved rush back in the 80's and found this gem of an album on cassette tape by accident. I took it home and I listened to it so often I wore out the tape in 3 months time. Most underrated album ever. Rock on Rush fans of the World!
Thanks for posting - Listening to on this sad day, with the news of Neils death ... showing the wonderful lyrics he had written from very early on. Even then he was aware of the journey we all travel from birth to death....what a journey he had... he clearly had many tough moments - and we must all battle cancer that took Neil, his wife and too many people away from life.... He will be so missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends.... so many gifts that he left us all. RIP Bubba, Prat, The Professor... Mr Neil Peart .... "This just can't be understood ..."
I've always liked Rush, but have never heard this tune until tonight. Too bad the radio stations around the country only play 4 or 5 songs by this group and don't bother introducing the masses to some of their better tunes...! Oh, well...!! I guess that's one of the functions of the blessed UA-cam! Thanks for posting!
I really feel these lyrics accurately display my rollercoaster of existential emotions going through being single, finding a girl, being in a relationship with her for about 3 1/2 years, and then out of the blue breaking up. Also, I'm quite high right now. So many feels.
Thanks for posting one of the 'lesser loved' Rush tunes, from one of the 'lesser loved' Rush albums. Us diehard Rush fans love it none-the-less. It takes one on a journey. Happy Rush Day!!! 21/12 2011
Repeating a premise from part 1: Moby Dick was panned when it was first published. Genius is often overlooked at first flower. So it is with Caress of Steel. A masterpiece.
there are few more beautiful pieces of music on the planet. This is a great album and Fountain is one of my favorites of the entire Rush collection. Thanks for posting. I was going to just watch one of these vid's but this is about my 10th one now
One of the most incredible musical creations of all time! It tells such an incredible story. Hard to believe that Neil,Geddy, and Alex very nearly called it quits following "Caress of Steel"!
"...drummer Neil Peart, in the October 1991 news release from the Rush Backstage Club, said: "Okay, I may have answered this before, but if not, the shouted words in that song represent an argument between Our Hero and the Didacts and Narpets - teachers and parents. I honestly can't remember what the actual words were, but they took up opposite positions like: 'Work! Live! Earn! Give!' and like that."[
Why? I ask, why did this album not get the accolades it so deserves? Lifeson is a absolute genius as well as getty and neal. it kinda sucks that this album came out because its what I measure all other rush album with and its still in the top three.
@@Greyswyndir I am so glad Scott got to learn of this song and enjoy the masterpiece it and all of Caress of Steel is. My magical Rush journey began with a spark in Middle school hearing of older friends who went to their show or got albums. The day I leafed through the selection of Rush Albums at the music store and chose 2112 as my introduction to RUSH, set me on a lifelong journey and love affair with their virtuosity.
Now after listening to this song. Go listen to today's music. Very very sad. Caress of steel, 2112, hemispheres, a farewell to kings, permanent waves and moving pictures was the best music to cone out of rush in terms of lyrical content in my opinion.
As much as I love the first album fly by night(the Rutsy thing doesn't count) I think this was their first great album. ❤
In the 1970s and 80s I tried to tell people how great this song is. They didn't want to hear it. They just thought I was weird.
cant understand people who slag off this album
The music and the lyrics of this cut is everything! Thank you for gracing us with your existence Professor 💙 RIHP
This music is so incredible in so many ways. The words are beautiful and beautifully crafted, with intelligence and grace.
The entire album is more than a masterpiece.
RUSH WILL LIVE FOR ETERNITY!!!!!!
To truly appreciate Rush, it definitely helps to listen to all 19 albums in order, which I am doing again this week.
I started on the day his passing was announced.
This is actually one of the greatest rock operas ever made, it is truly like watching a film through music…..
Moving pictures 🙃
This song is mind-blowing and I am more impressed with RUSH with every song I hear

What a genius!
this is beyond legendary. It is transcendental.

So many memories. I'm happy.
A forgotten song from annals of Rush. You will never, ever, hear this on a radio...and they composed this when they were 22 or 23 years old!
I need 1 thbs up tonight! Keeping faith. Alex keeps wringing it out!
Obviously the so called experts got it wrong once more. The greatest rock band ever!!!!
Close very close 😎🎸
What a masterpiece.
I concur!
absolutely!
Absolutely genius A fantastic band So talented it's unreal
I know I'll get flamed for not picking 2112 or Cygnus I/II but IMHO TFOL is still their best epic story song.
This song was way ahead of its time. But eventually, time caught up with it. :)

Goodbye Neil 😭😭😭😭😭
thamks for sharing!
Last note is the dying breath
Its a song about the life and death of a man. From childbirth to death and everything in between. Didacts and Narpets (Parents).
Teachers and parents

I am a huge Rush fan and even I never listen to this...some great parts but so many better songs on this album
20 Likes!? What is this??? This song deserves so much more.
Caress of Steel is one of my favorite albums
This channel rocks. Been a Rush fan since Tom Sawyer came out and never heard this magnificent song before. Love it. Thanks for posting.
Scott Zaccagnini Amazing, isn't it?

I can't help but wonder how Gene Simmons and KISS could be puzzled over music like this - can't wait for "clockwork angels"
That was fucking completely awesome.
Fantastic.
I bought this cassette in the half off section at Meijer when I was barely 15. It was the best 5 bucks I'd ever spent. 1986 or so.
BRAVO!
Rush and Kiss 💋 Toured together in the 70s
Love this album 👍
Amazing
its my favorite rush album the first one i ever heard
Beautiful

C'mon. Give Rutsey some love. He needs it! Here Again is a slow burning gem.
The Rutsey album was great, I was probably into Rush even before Neil came along. He had to audition for them, not vice-versa.
