Can you imagine finding about this band at 18 . Game changer for sure.! 63 today and getting younger every day. Cheers to all my Rush friends around the world.
My father introduced me to this album. He passed away a year ago. Listening to this song is the way I honor his memory and show how grateful I am for our time together.
This is one of my favorite songs by Rush. This entire record is incredible and should be listened to one song after the other but this track is the stand out. Yes even with Working Man.
There have been many bands with 3 members who made many hit songs. Cream comes to mind. But, there are many more. Do a deeper dive on YT or ask for help. The best to you.
I wondered the same, the very first time I heard them... around 1976. This song is among their better ones. I am sorry I haven’t listened it for over 30 years.
@@craigmanning2439 Craig...I bought..Caress Of Steel...when I was 15 years old..my first Rush album..I am now 60 years of age.Today I played..The Fountain Of Lamneth...And it truly helped me with my blues about getting older.About reaching the fountain at the top of the mountain...and not finding what you imagined you would when you were young, just as Geddy sings in the Song.It moved me to tears.....still I AM 🐝🌈💫
Yeah I feel like geddys vocals on this one are top notch. It really showcases his abilities. But ita also just a fantastically deep song, and not to mention it also reminds me of comfortably numb during the chorus, that little guitar/bass part between lines in the chorus is the same hook line in comfortably numb and its like 6 or 7 years before it.
I agree this is also very underrated. However the entire debut album kicks serious a$$. In the overall history of debut rock albums I would put this as a very close second only to Led Zeppelin 1...very close and the top spot for me depends on time of year as well as overall mood.
I love Working Man, but I agree. Alex’s solos on this album are just crazy. And, the crazy thing about this album was that Geddy wrote all the lyrics on the spot because John Rutsey who was supposed to write the lyrics, tore them up because he didn’t like them. But, I’m sure you all heard that story already.
The year was 2008 and I was 15 yo. I had recently got a guitar from my dad and was doing my best to learn it by myself. My best friend also had recently got a bass from his parents and we used to play simple songs (and write our own songs as well|) together after school. We decided to invite another guy who played guitar and a drummer to form a band and we would play almost every day after school at my mom's backyard. I already knew one or two Rush songs but had no interest in them. One of those days after practicing with the boys I decided to listen to other Rush songs and the first one I bumped into in a random playlist was this masterpiece. I had zero interest in playing bass at the time but this one bassline got me hypnotized. I rushed to get my best friend's bass (he used to leave his bass at my mom's sometimes because it was easier for him to pick it up and bring it to school the next day since I lived right next to our school) and started to learn how to play this song. I remember spending like 5 or 6 hours trying to learn it and after I was done I realized how good it feels to play bass. I convinced my dad to buy me a bass for myself the next year and from the on I learned a lot of The Who, Rush, Beatles (Paul is a really underrated bassist) and other classic rock (which is my favorite music genre) basslines. I'm a Rush fan to this day (I'm 29 now) and I still have that band with my best friend (although the original guitarrist and drummer left) and I still enjoy playing bass. I consider myself a good guitar player but it's funny to see people's reactions when I play bass. They say I'm a really talented bass player.
WORKING MAN gets all the love from this album because it was a radio hit. And it really is a killer song. But to me, this is the best song from that 1st album
John Rutsy 1st drummer stepped down from the future tour due to Chronic Diabetes that wasn't controllable.he said he would never make the tour out alive.
One of my all time favorites one of Rush's all time greatest. I karaoke this song if i can ever find it. "I'd surely like to know before its over"... yep
Only listened to this about 6 times this evening. 17 hour days. My soul needed this greatly. Been a die hard Rush fan for over 40 years. One of my favorite songs of all time❤
2021 the Great Awakening. I’m walking away from my past twin flame and these lyrics pulled me in after buying RUSH ABC 1974 2LP at my end of year celebrating at home. Geddy with those silky vocals.Alex tripping me and Neil you’re a genius for pulling this together. It’s been so long, since I first saw you all on March 11, 1979 at the Curtis Hixon xHall for $5.98 in Tampa, with UFO and Schenker Co. Feels like the first time! #HNY2021
Thanks for putting this up. It's one of my favorite songs. I knew Lerxst was going to be great. As far as I can tell, this is probably one of his most soulful heartfelt solos, and he was just getting started. RIP Pratt. Dirk just is 😉 ❤️rUSH❤
yes indeed rush along with Grand Funk Railroad before Craig join the band at little old 3-piece band from Texas known as ZZ top and the brothers of Rush triumph you are right about that my friend
Rush is not beyond this world , it's beyond the galaxy , they went to center of Sagitarius A star , crossed the event horizon , went right to the point of singularity , get a piece of it and brought it back to earth , that is their music and their gift to humankind , i'm grateful to live in their time and enjoyed their art.
Boy what I would give to see Rush live back in the day, I'm 19 and love these guys....if only I was born in the 70s, this generations music sucks ass 😫😫😫😫

The first of about 20 albums Rush has given to the world. The HEADLONG FLIGHT proceeds thru this song I wish they could do on this tour. Or somebody else could cover if they please. John Rutsey was only on this album. Since fate, circumstances, luck, and chance play a part in some later Rush songs, I wonder what if John wasn't here to do this. Then Geddy, Alex, and of course Neil would have regular jobs just like (most of or all of, I hope) us.

Agreed. I can't imagine a life without this bluesy rocker...even my children dig it.
Yeah, man. Songs like this rock harder than any other type of song on their albums (or any others for that matter).

Underrated Rush song.
Obscure, not underrated. It's loved by the true fans who embrace the lesser known tunes.
