For the young folks who never saw the show. CHIPS was the same format every week. It would start off with a horrendous car crash on the highway. Then the theme music would start pumping. After the commercial , they would go to headquarters for some comic relief with the short curly haired mechanic and Grossman. The Sarge would tell them about some criminals to keep an eye out for. They would catch the criminals in a car chase/crash. You could always tell when the crash was coming, cause the bad guys would jump in a REALLY OLD beat up car.. that was about to be destroyed. Then after the last commercial break, they would go and do what ever the LATEST FAD was in SoCal. Roller skating. Driving go carts. Hang gliding. Disco dancing. I guess square dancing was hip for a minute. So they did it. It made SoCal seem like a place where there was always something new and cool happening. And Ponch did it all.
Love it. Ponch is full of life and charisma. He is truly a down to earth guy, he doesn't have an envious bone in his body, you can see that by his attitude towards life itself. This is a man who grew up in Harlem where you have to stuggle to survive and yet he was able to make it. I consider him a great actor. I have watched most of his movies and his acting career on TV shows and there no doubt in my mind he deserved the Star which was given to him in recognition for his accomplishments. I have loved this guy from the 1st day I saw the TV show CHips. I wish there was a way I can meet and greet him personally.
I used to live in Studio City Calif, where many of those 70’s shows were filmed including Chips, which often had scenes filmed on my street. We (as neighbors) were allowed to stand aside and watch. Saw Ponch several times. He seemed like a nice guy and was very friendly to my son (a huge fan at the time) who was about 8 yrs old then. All the neighbor kids were thrilled to see their TV heroes in person.
I've got a friend who lives in LA who sees him every so often. In some garden store. He said he's a nice guy. Back in the 90s when I lived in LA. Seems pretty much everybody I knew ran into him at one time or another, but I never did.
There’s a very similar song that’s played at the beginning of either the first or second Friday the 13th. They’re all riding in dudes red pickup truck en route to Crystal Lake, and hauling ass the entire trip with excitement 😆
Ponch was: A cop A karate master A disco dancer A singer A dirt biker A model A counselor A spokesperson A daredevil A mechanic A boxer An acrobat A superhero A square dancer all that on a 1970s cop $ salary
is their anything that ponch couldn't do he danced disco , square dancing , karate and boxing , skydiving , scuba , under cover work and under the covers work , youth counseling and you name it and ponch has done it

Is there any dance Erik Estrada couldn't dance?! Loved him at the disco. He was better than Travolta, even though BOTH their pictures adorned my bedroom walls as a teen❤️💕❤️
Good Gravy! I have to wonder how this show lasted so long.I tried to never miss an episode, but ,this episode is quite forgettable. Seems like most of the officers dont have much of a life, being they ate always almost seen together at many functions. EVEN THOUGH. I LOVE CHIPS.BUT, THIS EPISODE LOOKS LIKE A SCENE FROM URBAN COWBOY!!! Did I say ate? I meant are.Almost forgot,Ponch can dance .square, tango, disco. He can sky dive scuba dive hang glide. And he knows karate too!! But,1 thing he cant do,SING!!! Gotta love it!! Did I mention skateboarding???

Erik Estrada is a legend. You wouldn't get this in CSI.

He sure could dance!
Frank Poncharello was a man for the times. If it needed to be done, and nobody knew how to do it, call Ponch.
Square dance I have not heard that long long time sigh
2:25 This is how I'll dance in front of my boss when I tell him I quit my job.
😳😳🤣🤣😂😂 I needed that. Thank you.
how cool is it to see Ponch and Sarge dancing together man.
Each time Ponch is dancing on CHiP's we see that Éric ESTRADA loves that!
Love see the bloopers one show
country with a disco Backbeat. must've been transitioning to the urban cowboy fad
HERMOSA 💖Anna Navarro💖, actriz que hace el papel mamá de Ponch en ese episodio...!
Fantastic! Great talent!
reminds me of 5th grade gym class 1964!!!!!!
Only in the 70s could you mix what was suppose to be an action highway patrol show....with HEE-HAW!!?🤣😨
A Puertorican doing square dancing... ya he visto todo!

Ponch and Getraer go square dancing on a Saturday night.
This scene needs Bugs Bunny to march them all into a Hay Baling Machine.
Hahaha
"Trout trout, Pretty little trout", holy hell I am crying

Lots of square dancing happening in LA in the 70’s. Who’d of thunk it !
In my school in the valley we’d square dance in the auditorium and got to hold the girls hands 👍
🥰
"This scene needs bugs-bunny leading ponch & getraer into a hay-baling machine now that's-comedy".
Gertraer looks absolutely silly/goofy with those khackis and white shoes.
Thank you
This is square dance disco remixed!
I was thinking that - definitely some bass playing disco octave licks and an open high hat ..
Ponch is a man for all seasons!
The 70's were awesome! LOL!
Nothing like Country Disco
Ponch dances like he's got a CHiP on his shoulder. I will say though, that disco bass line is a damn good addition to the music.
This guy is my hero.
Only Ponch could teach the father of Captain James T Kirk how to square dance.
That's fun! Love it!
OMG, this had me laughing out loud!
Erik can dance 😊
In my younger yrz I did square dance mxt wth line dancing fun to watch but to be able to do yu gotta take square dance mxt wth line dancing then yu hav more fun
The unrehearsed spontaneity is extremely impressive.
Sarcasm usually works well on these boards.
@akrenwinkle there's nothing wrong with a little ambition on these pages.
@@Spectrescup Let me explain something about the people on these pages. When they see a sign that says WET FLOOR... they do.
Why don't I remember this episode? How could I have possibly forgotten this!!!???

Good Lord I've seen it all now LMAO
Bellissimo
Hola Erik Estrada perdona pero hasta hoy es puedo ponerte desde costa rica feliz cumpleaños dios te bendiga🎉😊
Erik Estrada is looking fit and he is so gorgeous
That country/disco mix beat is kinda catchy!!
Remember the song Cotton Eyed Joe in the 90s?
The Sarge looks frightening. He can dance though.
Is there any dance Erik Estrada couldn't dance?! Loved him at the disco. He was better than Travolta, even though BOTH their pictures adorned my bedroom walls as a teen❤️💕❤️
this scene was envisioned for Larry Wilcox to dance, he chickened out the last minute....he regrets it to this day.
I loved square dancing in gym class in the 80s #nerdsrule
This was probably the price Easy E had to pay for that disco episode. This is meme material
Well damn, could he get those jeans any tighter?!
Clog it, gurl!
That's a proper hoedown.
Disco and square dancing had a baby...yech!
I want to be reincarnated as Eric Estrada's PANTS 👖

The first 5 seasons were good but the sixth season reflects that the show was on its way out therefore, it was very week.
so can Fonzie......
Sometimes I wonder why Erik Estrada didn’t have a bigger film and television career. Then I see stuff like this and say oh yeah that’s why.
Erik Estrada, was the Steven Segal, of his era!!!!
Even in "Airport '75", his character was full of himself!
Loved this show
But Ponch always ended up as the best dancer in the spotlight
Pinch dance good
He's so cute
