Many would argue Thirteen is their best work.

    Very tactful about Brendan's departure.

The poor guy was sacked. They kicked Brendan out but told everybody he left the band " voluntarily. " Norman finally stated the truth in 1995 newspaper interview that the band fired him because he wasn't "fully committed." He's the best drummer TFC ever had. Brendan does seem to be difficult at times. Wasn't he ejected from Mogwai after being in band a very short time because of starting big argument?

@@spacewurm I knew he was sacked but it's always been a bit sketchy, I guess he was a bit difficult and liked to stir things up. But you're right, he was the best drummer they had and after he left they lost a certain type of energy that never came back.

They were never as special when O'Hare left though they did have some real high points on the subsequent albums.

@@kcb5150 Grand Prix is close to perfect and Songs From Northern Britain is their last truly great album.

@@richalderson6069Yeah but O'Hare really pulled them over the top. The drummer is just so important to any band. It hurt them live a lot imo. A few bands ruined their live sound with drummer changes... Guns N Roses and Oasis come to mind. GNR especially lost the sleazy swing to the sound without Adler. AC/DC whenever Rudd wasn't on the stool was missing a gear. The thing with Oasis was the more incompetent/limited players that surrounded Noel it seemed to keep him honest about pushing his own limits and not going static. But O'Hare was busy and aggressive behind the drums and they replaced him with someone who was more basic and steady. They never sounded as exciting to me.
