I had a stroke about 4 years ago and had to learn to walk and talk again. Thank the good Lord that I’m finally starting to feel like myself. Family was always important but as I approach my 60s family and after this past year dealing with this pandemic, family and friendships are even more important. Materialistic things are really not important. My goal this year is to donate half of my possessions to charity and let my things bless others. Thank you,Sandra, for being a blessing ❤️!

I am glad you are finally getting to feel like yourself after your stroke. Best of all I’m glad that you were still here to enjoy life and you friends and family. What a wonderful idea to get rid of material things that probably will make someone else very happy and enrich their lives. A good lesson for all of us.❤️

How appropriate that you are bringing this subject up at this time for me. After 5 1/2 years of taking care of my mother with dementia and a difficult complicated grieving process in my middle 70's I am now coming "out of the fog" and looking forward to seeing what the good lord has for me next. It's my turn now! I never thought I would look forward to being content again! Grateful for you my friend and thankful for this community and the lovely comments. You all have helped me immensely!

Contentment is happyness to me. My Exhusband always crritized me for "only" being content, that this was not enough. Contentment to me has a lot to do with being thankful and mindful. Growing older, becoming wiser.....Kindness like you said, connection to people I love. Health and faith are a huge part of happiness to me. This Easter I send much love and peace to our community and to you Sandra❤

I have never felt more contented as I turn 80. This seems to make the type of people I want to meet attracted to me. It is a new and beautiful phase. I have nature in my life and I have taken up sewing which is challenging. I learned about Ken Burns and am watching all the amazing films he has made in chronological order. Also I am reading all Shirley MacLaine's books in chronological order. I hope I have a lot more time to enjoy this life. I have never felt closer to my children who do not live nearby, but I have a more deep communication. Your messages are always valuable.

Sandra thank you for your thoughts. I lost my husband of 50 years just months before lockdown, so it’s been difficult. But I can truly say I am content, grateful to still be alive after serious illness myself, thankful for family and friends. Thankful to have loved my husband since I was 15. I’ve taken over the garden since my husband passed and I’m surprised and delighted to be loving it, even on the cold days we have here in Scotland. I cook and bake and give it to neighbours, it gives me a purpose. And while still grieving I can say that God has been good and faithful to me. Thank you for sharing ❤️

I know your husband is looking down upon you as you tend his garden and the fact that you were finding so much joy in it is even better. I know the winters in Scotland can be very damp and cold, spring coming must be something you are looking forward to. The fact that you are living a life of purpose with gratitude is wonderful! Good morning, Sandra: At this point in my life, I have concluded that love is everything. Not money or material possessions that come and go, but, a true and lasting love. Yes, family and self-identity are part of contentment...I admire cultures where the elders are revered. Of course, nowadays, this is often not the case. We do come into the world alone, and leave it alone; however, to have someone special with whom to share the aging journey is truly the greatest gift we can ever receive, IMHO. I knew contentment and happiness in my own life, but, that was many years ago. It does come from within, but, that is difficult when there is a void. Thank you for yet another wonderful topic and video. Many blessings to you and Arthur.

The most amazing people I ever saw were in the Fiji villages and in the Atlas villages in North Africa. I’ve never seen such happiness ever again! I’ve lived throughout the world. I wondered what do those two areas have in common! Two spots on opposite sides of the world. 1/ financial poverty 2/ a sense of awe for everyone and everything. 3/ generosity beyond comprehension. 4/ love of people. 5/ open hearts 6./ smiles all the time! 7/ sense of community that completely accepts them exactly as they are without a shadow of a doubt that they are loved, rich and safe! 8/ no electricity: live in homes built from earth. Have rituals. Wake up with the sun ☀️

Hi Sandra! How are you today? You’re looking wonderful.....Sadly! I’m from a culture where family is not a huge deal for some, a brother or sister can pass you in the streets without even acknowledging you and feels no way about it, as for human warmth there’s not a lot of that either, there are 7 billion people in the world and yet soo many lonely people, making friends is not always easy because folks have so many conditions in place in order for them to accept you as a friend.....I’m an Introvert , I’m also an Empath, so I benefit from keeping my distance, I love all people, I help where and when I can, I’m content and I’m so so grateful for life💐🌸🌺🌹

In the Spanish speaking cultures, the phrase, ‘estoy contenta’ (Iam content) is used often.
I have incorporated this phrase into my English language because it clearly states my frame of mind.
Presently our USA culture uses the phrase, ‘Iam good’.
I translate that to, ‘Iam content’.
Contentment is a peaceful place to be.

My garden has been my contentment for years, since I found gardening for nature then gardening for profit, and gardening for beauty and contentment. I can only garden part time in the north. But when I cannot garden, I am content to read about the world and communicate with others online.

I'm seventy-four. My husband died decades ago. My children recently abandoned me. I had a bout with a grief that put me in bed with chronic pain and fatigue. I got up. I found a new living environment with subsidized housing for independent seniors. Doesn't sound very glamorous does it?
Was I ever surprised to find out that I have a pretty and modern apartment with a stunning view, and big windows. I live with a community of seniors all having something in common. We have our fascinating stories. We have jokes to share. We all have faces and we are no longer invisible. There are many activities waiting for us when the covid crisis ends. There are outdoor activities that we can do right now. We live on the edge of a protected area called "Clear Chrystal Creek" and the creek runs right under my window, replete with river otter, ducks, and the Canada geese who have come to spend the winter here and have their gosslings. I saw a beaver about two weeks ago while on my daily walk.
What I thought was going to be a prelude to death, turned out to be a reassuring and secure part of my life that I am becoming more and more attuned with. I think I have had to start my life all over again. It just might work.
Sandra Hart, you are such a blessing to me. I've had a pretty nuts and bolts life and now I come to your youtube vlogs for advice on daily living, coping skills that work, and also glamour. You make life look and sound so glamorous, inside and out. I use your tips on makeup and clothing. But most of all I find support and encourgement here. Thank You so much for your work.

The view from your window sounds absolutely amazing and being able to walk along in the water so refreshing. I am so happy for you and I hope that you will come back often and share your thoughts about our conversations. Have a wonderful weekend

Thankyou for the lovely video, interesting as always. I was never in lockdown being in Perth, the most isolated city in the world, there was no difference to our daily lives. Everything else is true, especially if you've lucky enough to have good relatives. My mother is still toxic in old age, it will be a release for everyone when she goes. I have lost touch with friends met while travelling in earlier life, no email or internet then. I would give anything to see them again. I also lost touch with an American boyfriend I met in Perth. Can only wonder how it might have turned out. Every friend makes a mark on our lives and is precious. I can't say I'm contented but will feel happy to travel to Singapore soon, to be in a happier place after so long with dealing with my mother and having travel restrictions. Dixie (Aus)

So glad to hear you speak about family ties and friendship. I have a very dear friend of mine who was born and raised in Pakistan. My life would not be the same without this person. One thing they have taught or shown me is the value those cultures put on family and yes taking care of their parents. They have very different ideas about family. One of their expressions is " Heaven is at your mother's feet" 😊

Good morning Sandra. Such a nice way to wake up, reading and watching this video. It really made me think and I do realize how content I am. My three sons and I bought an old Victorian Farm house 5 and a half years ago. We all live here, and coudn't be more content. Yes, there is a lot to be done, and we say almost daily how blessed we are to have this place. We can (and do) have many animals......we do a small cat rescue as we have the wonderful barn for them. When we first moved here there were so many sick, hungry and pregnant cats..........now, there is only one we see who doesn't belong to our colony. ( Don't worry, we'll catch him) :-) We catch them, take them and have them spayed or neutered and get their shots. They were supposed to go off on their own, but it hasn't ecxactly worked that way. They love it here as we do! Anyway, although money is tight, the love of family, friends and fur friends, as well as the three acres for the deer and others in the back makes is so worth while! So, in my world, family, friends, and the ability to help these little fur babies make it all so wonderful. Thank you for this video. Have a wonderful day! xoxo

For me, I feel most content and happy when I think about and remember all that I have to be grateful for. When I forget to do this and I slip into the mindset of lack (I wish I had this, I wish I could do that, etc.) I begin to feel discontent. So it takes me recognizing that I’m having negative thoughts and I have to actively turn those thoughts towards gratitude 🙏🏽 💜🌻🌞 Then I feel happier and content again 😊

Such beautiful thoughts thank you for sharing. I am both happy and content. I love working in my garden, trying new recipes and participating in volunteer activities, going to fairs, shows and festivals, being a fan at my grands soccer/softball/baseball games and exploring by myself or with friends. I have come to this point by trying to be the happiest woman in my town. It takes work everyday by turning down invitations to pity parties, editing negative people from my life, wearing better fitting and colorful clothing, paying attention to grooming and setting 3 goals each day for myself. I challenge you, Reader, to choose being a happy older woman over being a nasty, miserable older woman.!

Contentment number one for me is liking ùr self...i spent too many years as a child & than as a youngster disliking myself (painfully shy..too thin etc) but when we get into our 40's we start to come into our own (& start putting on a little weight!) & as our character is now more or less developed & let's say a shy gene has more or less disappeared I think that's when u start to REALLY like u'r self😊 The next is a hobby u really enjoy.. & look forward to getting back to each day.. As I'm a bit of a chilled person knitting & watching a good film (or listening to u'r good self!) Makes me feel content! But having u'r grown children's every mood & problem in u'r face at our age to my mind doesn't go hand in hand with being content!! I have 5 children of which 3 of them have my mother's closed book gene (not healthy at all to keep things bottled up I agree) so they don't tell me EVERYTHING so I only know about the good stuff!!😁 But 2 of my adlut children are an open book like myself so I know every depression & mess they've got themselves into & that's not good in terms of my mental state & contentment (which I strive on a daily basis to attain!) & one of these two lives just up the road from us so I'm actually witnessing the depression/mess full on & first hand!! The worry & anxiety on their behalf is deffinely interfering with my Contentment!! Of course I would never tell them this because I love them far too much & if I'm their sounding board than so be it! (I do give out good advise & am very wise it has to be said😊) & contentment is all the things u pointed out in this video..i enjoyed listening as I knitt away (the bed jacket is coming along nicely by the way!😁 -- watching from malta😎

What a good chat Sandra, thank you and I loved your pictures. And thank you to those who've shared their thoughts, pain, loss and experiences.
I see happiness as being dependant upon circumstances and contentment more about a deeper joy that comes from peace, hope and acceptance.
Your points are so very valid. Through covid we can see clearly the lack of connection, brokenness in relationships due to distance and the need for family whether related by blood or not we are all part of the human race. I find my greatest peace outside listening to the stream flow and thanking my God. Whether watching birds or petting a fur baby we get some connection to the gift of creation. Yes the sense of identity and ability to work, give or do for someone sparks life.
Music is a big part of the gifts we are given. I recall the lyrics you shared from Joni Mitchell, yes! I too miss travel as there are places I'd like to revisit just in my memories for now.
I seek greater contentment a day at a time and grateful His grace is sufficient. Be blessed!

In three years we lost three of our beloved Yorkies & our sweet Maltese. We still have one tiny girl , who’s 15 , blind and the love of our life , but this little guy came not our life and took us completely off guard ! What a joy he is ! Having said all that , he’s also slot of work !🥱so when he woke up before the sun rose , I put on your latest video which was lovely , and must have fallen back to sleep after , I woke up to the sound of your sweet voice narrating Behind the Magic Mirror , so I felt compelled to quickly

A couple of years ago my brother introduced me to yoga and earthing, which I enjoy. I was working in corp. America and running around in life and work. Now I reach out to my family/friends sending them a happy hello or a wellness check text. Thanks for this video, appreciate you!~Elizabeth

Thanks for sharing. As I’ve traveled I found a simple smile is universally understood in all languages. I’m 68 and am content but not happy as I’ve been waiting for 7 months for a house to sell. Frequently I think and reflect on the passage that teaches to be content where you are. Opportunities for helping others are around us in so many small and large ways.

Thankyou so much Sandra for another wonderful video. I'm 38 & my parents moved abroad when I was 23 (I stayed in the UK). Although I am married, I don't have any close female friends & as I get older, I miss having my Mum close by, for the advice on things that you never really think about when you are younger. Your videos have helped me in so many ways - whether it be for company or for helping me navigate through life 💜 x

Lovely video!! I think a sign of true contentment is when one can be happy and content despite negative circumstances.
    I find it quite hard.
To have that wonderful inner peace no matter what........

Wise people, and it is not me, say that you start working on your positive energy when there is no crisis in your life. It takes time to create rutine when you take care of your mind, body, and spirit. But when the next crisis comes, and they do come, you will be stronger. On the surface, there will be a storm, but deep inside, you will feel calmness.

Beulah, Contentment does take work especially when there’s a lot of negative things going on around us. But there is always a rainbow or a few little things in our lives that we can focus on that are positive and gives us a sense of contentment. Just waking up every morning and being here for me is a big part of my contentment❤️

Beautiful talk Sandra. I still have a few things to work on. Friendships are difficult when you live in a place where you are only semi fluent in a language. Just usually me and my husband in Switzerland. People seem to think I am strange, imagine that!

Janet. I would truly be lost living in the country where I didn’t understand the language. Period. I admire you four Trying. I think when Margaret Manning went to Switzerland she also did not speak the language. And at the present time I don’t think she is fluent. As time goes by you’ll get better at it.LOL! You. Strange?😊😊❤️
