This is my favorite kind of series from your channel. Hearing you narrate is like listening to a friend tell me how to do stuff and it's very relaxing. I always look forward to a MWM upload.
Hi everyone! High recommandation! 25-30 years ago, that was just to much for „young-me“ -, but i allways wished i would have done this… now 2024 i grabbed a copy of avalon hills reprint. And with the help of this video-serie i made it! Thanks to your channel guiding a noob through the process! I’m very happy with the result!
This is amazing, thank you. I've been playing boardgames for years and have great, nostalgic memories of playing the original Hero Quest, and picked up the reprint. I've just been trying painting out for the first time ever. This video series is going to be great for me. Thank you!
Yay! Back to the basic painting technique videos! The Blackstone Fortress videos are what got me excited to get back into the hobby and try painting years back now. I don't think I've improved much since. 😀
YEEEAAH BAAAYYYYBEEE! Been waiting for another MWM speedpainting series since the Blackstone Fortress ones that helped get me into miniature painting in the first place! I must have watched each of those videos 10 times, and still find a new little tip every time I do. I never even had Blackstone Fortress, I just learned so much from your tips therein; a year after starting, i was sitting atop 4 fully painted 40k armies! So, suffice to say I'm pretty hyped to see what you'll bring to the videos with a few more years of experience under your belt.
I've had this box sitting untouched since Christmas, it had a massive discount and the nostalgia hooked me hard. I'm super excited to see you do a series like Blackstone Fortress again and this time I can follow along :) all hail Darren the Gobbo!
Now I'm just imagining treating the monsters like a separate gang for Necromunda/Mordhime and ending up with heavily kitbashed and uniquely painted goblins that are all leveled up.
The Blackstone Fortress series was the reason I subscribed to your channel. I'm more than hyped to see you tackling another project like this 🔥. Keep 'em coming and cheers from Germany
Going back to the basics really makes the video feel like classic MWM. If I wasn't in a tiny apartment right now, I'd absolutely buy a copy of Hero Quest to follow along with.
This type of content is what hooked me to the channel you really have a knack for creating painting guides that I feel people of all skill levels can appreciate and take something away from, I can’t wait to follow through this series and would love to see you do more full box game paint guide in the future.
I love the timing of this. I just bought Hero Quest on sale and decided I'm going to paint them. I've never painted anything in my life and I'm looking forward to it!
Same here. I got all my paints and supplies coming in the mail. I've already bought the main game and 6 of the expansions. I plan on painting every figure in the franchise.
Thanks so much for doing this, Guy! So excited to paint along with you!! I understand that you probably won’t get the same number of views on these videos as you would on 40k stuff. This is an act of devotion to your HeroQuest loving viewers, and we appreciate it!
The old set was my first entry into model TT games and it never occurred to me to paint them back then. Luckily I still have the whole complete set as my friends and I only played a dozen missions. Even now I have no intent to paint the originals and keep them as that. New tips I take away every vid Guy, thanks
I like when you do these. When I first got back into the hobby in 2020, I followed your Blackstone Fortress series and learned a lot and now they are all painted! :)
Man this was a blast from the past! Your Blackstone Fortress series was amazing! I didn't even own it but I did copy your recipe on Kroot Warriors. I look forward to this series just he same. Whoever came up with the concept to revisit this video style needs a pat on the ol back!
So happy to see this series of this great game! Hero Quest was the first ever miniature game I played with my cousin back in the days and I can proudly say that I own a copy of the old version (+ the first 2 expansions) all painted up. It was the first project that got me into painting minis back when Covid hit. Now I'm sitting here with all minis from the re-released base game and all expensions currently available spread across my desk and eagerly trying to finish them. It's been almost 8 months since I started and I have about 35 minis left to go. fun fact: the first mission in the old Hero Quest Adventure book was way easier than the newer ones. It only featured a handful of Goblins (and mybe 1 Orc), where you know encounter almost every Monster that is available, which makes it significantly harder and way more frustrating. Tbh I think they changed it for the worst cause new players might get scared off by the difficulty of the 'tutorial' mission and lose interest way faster than we did back then.
Thank you for starting this video series off assuming no prior knowledge! I have zero clue how anything works with painting miniatures but always considered painting HeroQuest minis. My parents painted the weapons of the monsters in their HQ set a metallic silver, and even something that simple makes everything pop so much more.
Just bought Heroquest to relive my childhood with my kids 😀 I've purchased the paints etc you've listed and will be following the series in full. Cant wait. Videos are great and easy to understand 🙌
You first taught me how to paint with your Blackstone Fortress series. By then end i had levelled up my painting skill. Now i can get motivated and finish my HeroQuest set. Thank you, Good Sir!
May I just say sir this is an outstanding tutorial! I've been painting most of my life and I'm already pretty familiar with most of the techniques you show in your video, but for someone who isn't you do a great job at explaining exactly what you're doing and why. And your models look amazing. Even I, an experienced painter, was able to take a few ideas from this. Great work! 👍
Play+Storage upgrade->adding a magnetic sheet on the bottom of the game board and drilling neodymium into the bases and bottoms of props should make for a great play upgrade and storage solution. The folded board fits in the box and then putting the minis and props in the box will keep them in place when stored as an added bonus to bits not moving about if the board is accidentally bumped when is play.
Interesting seeing the difference in materials and prep for these models, most of these tips apply also to Forgeworld or Finecast miniatures as well. Look forward to seeing more on HeroQuest! Would love to see a video playing a game of it when everything is painted up!
My parents own the OG Heroquest, which they painted when they were my age - we’ve just finished playing through all the quests with 3 generations & bought the new set for Christmas so get to paint these for the first time! Thanks for all the info & instructions, it’s super helpful!!
One of the most comprehensive/complete videos on painting boardgames minis. Looking forward to your next Heroquest speed painting tutorial. subscribed and went back to see your other videos.
love heroquest, my dad got me into it when i was a kid. we've both brought the remastered version and every other saturday we all get together and play. we've tweeked the rules alittle so it makes it a little more of a challenge but its worked really well. been wanting to paint the stuff for ages but life got in the way but after watching this im priming as i type! cant wait for the next video :)
I completed your Blackstone Fortress series, and I happen to own both the 1989 and recent releases for Heroquest. I will paint up the new models along with you, and think about how to paint the older ones. Always love your guides.
I am finally biting the bullet and getting my Christmas copy of Heroquest painted before we play. I watched this video on release and have been rewatching while I washed everything and hot water fixed about 40% of the stuff. Going to try your fantastic basing idea too. Thank you and best wishes to all at MWM.
This has come at JUST the right time! I bought Heroquest a few months ago and I now have time to start painting them up! Can't wait to paint along with you :D
Very much looking forward to seeing your next videos in this series! My HQ copy has been sitting in my pile of shame since it's release. Was lucky enough to grow up playing the original with my family, and still have that copy. Super fun game!
Guy, i gotta tell ya, i dont usually put comments in you tube, but you are an absolute legend for doing a HQ video. please do more, this is the way. Brwoard swoard (cockney accent)
Loved this game when i was at school, i still have a few of the miniatures which are great, i picked up the new hero quest off Facebook market place last night for £40 then wake up to this video, what a bonkers coincidence. Will really enjoy watching this series. Love how you explained what paints to use so its accessible to all.
I picked up the original box from a garage say when I was 7-8 years old, it's followed be around for almost 20 years now and been through many more adventures then the cardboard box can handle. I got back into the hobby again last year and only recently found out that Hero's Quest was a GW product. I think it's only fitting to give those old well used models some love now that I've got some painting experience under my belt.
Whao! This is a so amazing serie!! It's amazing the work you are doing! Thank you! You are helping a lot of people like me hehe I'm looking forward to see all the episodes! I hope you paint EVERYTHING Hehehe All the expansions material.
I’ve already finished painting my own Heroquest set, but I will be watching this series to pickup tips for the future. My solution for storage was to glue washers to all the model bases, I then stuck an A4 magnetic sheet to a piece of stiff card which fits inside the original box. This means all the models can be stored standing up inside the box, it even survives a car journey with very little movement, the added bonus is the extra weight on the base of the models means they are less likely to move or fall over on the tabletop if the table gets knocked.
6:49 this is a good tip but also kinda hilarious - im building some gunpla right now, and my first thought was "ill put some midwinter minis on to listen to while i build!" this channel is exactly what i put on to relax while building models and stuff :^]
I picked up my copy of hero quest as an adult from a small mom and pop thrift store, it made my day. I remember as a kid i wanted to play it so much but could never find enough people to play it
Looking forward to this! I don't own HeroQuest but I have a bunch of unpainted furniture and TONS of board game minis to paint. I'm know this series will be useful. I never thought of the cardstock on bases, for example. Brilliant. Stealing that!
Will be definitely following along, and Thankyou for bringing some inspiration to finally open my boxes and prepping the minis finally, let’s get that furniture painted!!
Great video for beginners. Always nice to see new tutorial videos as material and techniques change/update over the years. And no better teacher than Guy! And now I need to go watch the '86 Transformers Movie, the best one.
Thanks for starting this painting project on Hero Quest! I was thinking about starting painting the box, but never had the will to start. This will give me the inspiration I need!
thank you for the priming section. It's a challenging step, and so frustrating when folks skim over it. With 25 years in the hobby, I still dread priming.
Good on ya for starting with HeroQuest! In my experience, soft plastic minis like this ones, D&D Adventure Boardgames and Dungeon Saga get sticky if primed with rattle cans! It happened to me before and I experimented priming under the same variables both soft plastic and GW plastic the same day. The soft plastic got sticky after a few months. Hope yours stay ok!
A mate got the Kickstarter set after I told him about it. We’ve played a free sessions and it’s as good as I remember. I’m going to enjoy this series. Thanks MW team
thank you for going back to basics, even though i have grown with the hobby. Good introductions are still need, reminds me how to help new people to the hobby.
Really excited to see a new speedpaint series! I don't know if I'll be able to follow along since I don't think it'll be easy to get a copy of the game in Japan, but I'll definitely be waiting with anticipation for every new video.
I'm going to be following this. I have my HQ set and expansions to paint, and I loved your Tyranid colour schemes. I won't be doing exactly the same as I want a Masters of the Universe bright, sometimes perhaps odd, cartoon colour choices. For example, somewhat purple stonework, like MOTU could be. My Zenithal will be Halfords Grey and White, heroes wearing Red themed to match the plain the plastic. Greenskins like your classic Orc remake. Etc. But I do love all your tricks and tips.
Guy:*offers helpful advice on cleaning minis* Me:*Singing the song from the G1 Transformers scene he showed* I'm excited to see another MWM paint series :)
Glad you’re doing this!! :D think I might paint along with you on this one :) BSF a painting along was amazing! Really really happy you’re doing this :D
Looking forward to this...still have my old set, but went all in on the re-release! Also, big fan of how you've set this up as a primer for our new burgeoning hobbyist kin! Keep up the great work :)
The best thing about heroque- you all get it
Look at the muscularity!
THE GARGOYLE
BROWDSOWD
BAM... Heroic Brew!
Cracking!
The best thing about Hero Quest... is seeing it always come back again and again for people.
The sign of a classic!
Use the grey spray on the brode swode!
The best thing about Heroquest is...the terrain!
Don't forget to underspray the barbarian to catch all that musk-queue-larah-tee
@@patrickdillon500the best thing about Hero Quest is, the miniature furniture!
The best thing about midwinter minis is the old school painting guides. I love to see it. ❤😊

Damn which I had a discount like that, cause I've been eyeing this game for some time but it's so expensive in Canada.
