Why you cannot compare OTR to local gig work | cargo van business

  • I have been in business for nearly an entire year. I learn from my own experiences and do all my own research. It is very important to do what you want to do, not what someone else wants you to do. You have a responsibility to be responsible and know what is profitable for your business. Do not worry about what others say or think, follow your heart and do what's best for you.

    Definitely can relate to not listening to people. I joined the military straight out of HS and of course everyone was terrified. I have great benefits and experiences because of it. I also started out in transportation as a 18 wheel company driver OTR which also scared everyone (in their defense im a 4 ft 11 female) lol but now I am ready to start my own sprinter van business which because of the military I have the benefit of specialized SBA grants for vets and advantage with obtaining federal contracts. DO NOT LET PEOPLE PROJECT THEIR FEARS ONTO YOU. The most successful people in the world will have a failed attempt story 99% of the time. Knowledge is the key to it all.

    Very inspirational my friend, well done, thank you!
    I'm at the very beginning of starting a cargo van business, done a lot of work/research and looking at vans to buy to move this into reality.
    I am not looking to become some multimillionaire I just never want to work for some idiot who thinks he is so much better than me because he's a boss.
    You are a good man and God bless you and God bless your future, I wish you all the best in your future.

    If you get into this business your main goal is to work directly with customers.... Saves them money and you build a lasting partnership and make better money. I get using a broker or dispatch to get going but dont be scared to get on the phone or go in person to see if you're able to work with them.. Most customers pay net 30 so understand that also.

You have to go through them with the negotiations of pay and I’ve heard they can be something else….ijs. I love your content that’s why I bought me a mini van to start with. From yesterday I was waiting to see your video. What you wanted to talk about to get some insight on what you're saying I have one question. Is that why you charge rental fee for your vehicle? And is it the same price no matter what the item is or does that fluctuate as well?

    • @BigCJCargoVan
      @BigCJCargoVan  6 місяців тому +1

      To be honest, my leasing fee is based on the miles I have to drive, or if it's a last-minute request. I find clever ways to add additional pay. My rate is $40 per hour. I added the leasing fee for the Christmas tree even tho it was a short drive because it was a last-minute booking. Make the customer feel that you have to bend over backward to squeeze them in your tight schedule, and they will always pay more. The rate changes based on the miles I have to drive. So anything in San Antonio city limits will be $25 flat rate, long as it's less than 25 miles. I use my rate sheet if it's a long drive. My leasing fee will be based on that. I call it leasing fee because Taskrabbit does not allow you to charge for miles, but that's what it is. I'm charging them for the miles as a leasing fee. Basically, leasing fee = milage rate.

    If you never did otr How can you comment on it. If a gig comes out & you turn it down because it's not paying enough by your standards. How does that make the next person that takes it thirsty???

    • @BigCJCargoVan
      @BigCJCargoVan  6 місяців тому +3

      To answer your 1st question, I do have experience with otr. I went through the entire process of getting my authority and bidding on loads. I never ran an interstate load because of the bidding process. I've delt with brokers, bad business and bad rates. I learn and listen to experienced otr drivers as I recommend new drivers do. I increased my knowledge by actually studying and researching otr. I speak through experience, knowledge, and educating myself on the subject. If there is anything I said about otr is not true, please let me know, I'd like to know what you don't agree with. 2nd part is I think you should watch my video again. I referenced Thirsty to OTR drivers, not gig apps. Being thirsty is not a part of gig apps.

    • @BigCJCargoVan
      @BigCJCargoVan  5 місяців тому

      Not sure I understand your question, but GoShare does not require you to have special equipment unless that has changed since I signed up. Pallet jack is not needed unless you have a box truck, a pallet jack would be useful. If you are signing up as a helper only, you do not need any equipment, you will only help the driver with the delivery vehicle. If you are applying to be a delivery driver, you need a pickup truck, cargo van or box truck. It is recommended to have a furniture Dolly, handcart, and straps at minimum. Hope that answers your question

    I think you are little unclear on how gig companies work. They are a carrier company like any other carrier comany. They join other carrier companies to make more money. Example, when you see are order ony Frayt, Roadie, Goshare, etc. There is one comany you see all the time. Who is that? "Onerail!" Onerail has a national contract with all the big companies like American tire Distributors, Lowe's, Sherwin Williams. All the other companies you pick up from is more than likely there own customer but not investors.
    Also, I'm not going to blame content creators on saturating the maket. I feel its just how people network with other people. I've been told on a few apps just talking with other people.
    Last but least, stop worrying what people say. Unfortunately, we as people can be your worst enemy if you let us get in your head. Quit letting negativity get to you. You say your are a man of God, what would Jesus do with all that negativity?
    Keep your focus, its what got you where your are today.

    • @BigCJCargoVan
      @BigCJCargoVan  6 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment, but I do understand how the gigs work. I am fully aware of onerail, infact they hire independent contractor drivers directly. I know a driver in my market who works directly with onerail, and the pay is even worse, straight trash. The gig companies were started by entrepreneurs, and investors. All this info can be researched online. Yes many have sub contacts with onerail but they also have their own direct contracts. Private citizens like you and me can also place orders on the platform, you do not have to go through onerail. Also, comments Don't bother me, All comments can be seen by everyone. I address certain topics for the sake of the weak minded. Those who can be discouraged by negative people. I want those looking into the business to think for themselves and not let others think for them. Has no effect on me, I'm going to do what I'm going to do no matter what.

    This is 1099 taxes. Do you put away 30% of that daily payment away to pay taxes? I hear 1099 takes a big %

      I put about 20% away, but after my 1st year, I paid zero taxes. I had enough write-offs that I owed zero in taxes. I even received a return. Learning the tax game is huge, don't believe everything you hear.

    I agree and disagree , In 2020 I was early with all the gig app like dispatchit and the were moving items for big name like ABC , and the hvac etc pay well local and volume where I start a 6am and last order came be 3pm and I can clear $260-350 on average a day and if you hit jackpot and get a order out of state I've seen my partner go 800miles for $1600 . Then once they grew you orders got cheaper like $25-40 and the tried to give you a so call bonus if you took more order and you get paid on the back end. Then I that ship started to sink I through the grass would be greener on the OTR side and I full for snakes , scamers, crooks, and gate keepers. There never going to be a moment that drivers have control OTR because the brokers play chess not checkers , and see the people all day in these groups with the new van that have to get paid for you they know it well always someone to take the load cheap . The moral to this is take the meat spit out the bones , use the app or Dispatch service that's robbing you blind to to lead you to the shipper and get your direct connection . I weather the storm and I use them all deal with the ones cutting the checks.

      Hey there Sir, I'm looking to branch off into what you're doing. I currently drive OTR (18 wheeler) for 3yrs. My question is how do I get started without having the experience in this area? Thanks for your time.
