@@Patrick-y4d1z that is fair. Wouldn't be surprised if it were very easy to have shot way past 8 GHz by now in single core processors. But that would likely not have been nearly the overall performance gain as compared to adding cores.
You can get the clock speed higher with a deeper pipeline (increasing instruction delays), both Bulldozer and Pentium 4 were deeper than the average at the time, which is why they were pretty high clocked...and still slow. Apple's M1-4 chips are fairly "shallow" which is why they clock lower, and save power, but still keep up with higher clocked CPUs.
Regarding the snapdragon results it sounds to me as if they are either detecting the benchmark programs and then running the chip at maximum speed so that the benchmark results look good or the chip designs targeted benchmarks. It's most likely the former and we have seen stuff like this before
Happy birthday man, mine is the 25th. Keep up the great work you’re doing for your son and creep up the great videos for the rest of us. And tell Reese to get over here where it’s warm!
Frankly, I'm not surprised that the new Snapdragons aren't as good. People keep hyping the ARM ISA like it is some silver bullet to efficiency, when ISA doesn't really matter. The reason Apple is using ARM is not because the ISA is amazing, but because they already have an ARM license and over a decade of experience in designing ARM chips for phones and tablets. You can find people actually working on CPUs like Jim Keller saying that ISA mostly doesn't matter for performance.

Happy Birthday Brett. You may be 43. But you look like you are in your mid 30's. You got blessed with good genes, and take care of yourself.
Based on what has been revealed thus far the 3D cache will be able to allow for overclocking of the cores until you get the thermals close to the ceiling. Also, with Zen 3 & 4 the clocks had to be lowered with the 3D models, but not this time. There won't be a clock difference with the 3D models on Zen5. The idea this time around is for Zen 5 to have 3D cache on both chiplets for the 12 core, 16 core, and if possibly a 24 core (IF they end up releasing it).
These ARM laptops are gonna flop VERY HARD if they can't offer decent competitive performance at a decently cheaper price, like at least %30 cheaper if not more.
Going by the tests, the only thing they can offer is better battery life at a worse performance than power starved AMD's current offer. And noone's making 17 inches with those, it's all 14 inch displays for those laptops. ua-cam.com/video/SVz7oGGG2jE/v-deo.html
I think they have a place. Imagine something like a Chromebook that is fairly cheap with a huge battery. Most people don't need ultra-high-end performance in a laptop. Only really gaming laptops would need AMD/Intel performance. 99% of people just watch videos and scroll the internet on their laptop.
Laptop that makes screenshots every couple seconds and tracks your every move? Even if the new chips would deliver on the performance promises, i wouldnt be interested at all.
Lenovo are selling SD laptops with 1tb SSDs and up to 32gb RAM. The Intel and AMD laptops are cheap right now because everyone is crapping themselves over the SDs and slashing prices. When there are more ARM-based laptops with non-Qualcomm SOCs (MediaTek for instance) the prices will drop.
I've been to the deals page. I've checked 6 Newegg deals and every one starts off with a wrong price. What is going on with these deals? It seems the power supplies are the ones listed but the prices don't line up with a promo code, starting price or anything I can see. This is on the day of the deals June 24th 2024.
Somebody somewhere inside of Microsoft has the smugest *"i told you this was a bad idea"* look on their face. Seriously how did recall get the green light other AI grift. 🤦🏾
While I do not know what the scene from Harry Met Sally was, the question he was referring to was mine about will the Ryzen 9000 series require new motherboards. Lol.
I have multiple computers "in my life" I have a PC for home use and a surface for work(I work at 5/6 locations in a given work week). I wouldn't dream of not having a PC with a giant ergonomic advantage that laptops/tablets cant offer.
Hospitals are also getting hacked. So is the internet and electronic files good to have online anymore? Our credit Bureau's also got hacked. So what is the problem lately? Hiring foreign companies to do your data base or support doing it?
if the info that hacker leaked was real then we are going to have the 5500x3d and something about the 5700x3d wow, amd really milking the frick out of am4 socket
Last Gen AMD laptops are usually on sale for quite a while after a new release for dirt cheap. AMD is really good at lowering prices in response to the market.
So happy to see Framework, giving a more mainstream platform for Risc-V. More access to Risc-V means more software being developed. Good on you Framework.
any of those snapdragons laptops lets you install linux? i'm not sure if current kernel support it but at least to let you boot linux and not stuck with windows for the rest of its life
Amd hacked but the reasons for not support HDR recording with amd relive and why they decided to use dodgy benchmarks are unknown. Like if am4 is done, it's done. I don't want to hear more am4 stuff honestly.
The Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge seems to be the best version for Snapdragon X Elite currently available - that and Microsoft Surface... Samsung wants to be the Apple of the Windows/Android world!
how much longer is intel going to work on a problem they have been aware of for almost a year? just saying seems like we keep hearing the same thing from intel and the mobo makers.
Happy Birthday, Brett. Might I suggest that getting older is a bad idea filled with nothing but aching muscles and joints and ever-growing bags under your idea. I don't recommend it. Not even once. It was a mistake to turn eleven, when the world was no more complicated than showing up to school with your homework done and having a choice between burgers, mac and cheese, and chicken nuggets for dinner. No job, no debt, no responsibility. Just hanging with your friends, watching movies and TV, and playing games.
I'm 60, and don't have crows feet! I also don't have a receding hair line at all, and a full head of long hair with just a touch of gray... I guess when you are studying something like quantum physics, the amount of blood flow to the head needed for it acts as an anti aging agent!
Intels Problem Is That 8 Cores Have One L1 Cache Which 8 Processors Use That Means Just 12,5% Percent Performance With Shared L1 Cache Over 8 Cores. Intel Should Make For Every Core A Single Big L1 Cache Which Is 100% Clock Tacted With The Every Single Core A L1 Cache Than Have Intel Sure Much More Performance And More Money Space Cash L1 Cache For Every Single Core
Its not good but I dont care what AMD lies about, Im still sticking with them until Intel fixes their thermal issues and bugs. What other option is there?

The hacker group was definitely led by the UserBenchmark dude. Targeted both companies that have wronged Intel
most likely Intel lol they are actually losing to apple against apple silicone and AMD to get their secrets for the server market
If they actually did it and they get found for doing it then..... 💀@@RedLine0069
Ohh dear. Comment section experts
😆
Its all a conspiracy against our beloved AMD!
Still remember when at the turn of the millennia or so, IBM was overpromising Apple 8 Ghz eight core RISC chips by 2005. Maybe in another timeline.
Didn't take into account increase in core count though. Not to mention TDP. Or IOPS.

It's funny how he's older than Zach even though he looks younger than him.
That chair is the start of us looking like the people from Wall-e
Also why is it kinda affordable??
Gonna have to wait for some reviews xD
Happy birthday Mr. Brett!
Happy Birthday! Mine is tomorrow. Glad to occasionally share the solstice with you.
I'm 43, and I'm amazed of how many of my favorite UA-camrs are the same age. So it's not so bad to be that old -_-.
0:32 just got gaslit into believing he’s a different age 😂

I am excited about Risc-V. As more options are available for developers we will see more mature linux/bsd kernels and more mature drivers.
I wonder if Android can be installed on one of the Snapdragon laptop/tablet devices and then do a comparison benchmark test.
