People in chat may have brought this up, but if you're unaware, NPC dialog frequently changes from patch to patch. Hoary Boulder and his brother have a long-running storyline that goes on through all the games entirely optional in the background, so I'd highly recommend going to check on him + his friends every patch or after every major event when you get a chance.
"I hate you less every time" that,s normal. The writers are VERY good at making us give a shit about their characters, give them flaw and redeeming qualities and quite a few of them have interesting arcs and growth. I'm not saying anything more about Alphi, I'll let you discover for yourself what fate awaits him. But in general, you can expect that most important characters will be redeemable or likeable
Regarding haurchefant, it's been mentioned in stream but yeah, he's *into* the WoL in most other languages. He's based on a character archetype that doesn't really exist in english, so a lot of it was toned down

In JP it's common for him to comment about the WoL's body (he likes how well defined their muscles are), and makes a passing comment about how you're welcomed in his private chambers to "keep warm" from the Coerthian cold. He's very in-your-face about in ARR, but toned down in HW. In HW it's more like he admires and respects you with a hint of flirting.
There are various parts of the Post ARR Main Scenario Quests that were cut to make things shorter, and one of them was the prelude leading up to Ramuh's fight. Nowadays, there's a point where everyone is in a circle, and they mention that they were subjected to the Sylphs playing tricks on them. In the original, *you* were subject to it too, with characters appearing out of the mist and everyone being confused if it was actually Yda or Y'shtola or whatever. I understand cutting it out because it didn't add much to the story that the Sylph beast tribe quests don't toy with if you decide to go that route... but it *did* erase one of the best lines in all of A Realm Reborn and it makes me so sad. Towards the end of all the shenanigans, everyone has come together, and Thancred approaches. Everyone is understandably wary that he might be a Sylph in disguise, so Y'shtola asks what would happen if we just left him here to get devoured or taken over by the Sylphs. Thancred starts waxing poetic about how all the world's lovely ladies would mourn and cry because he was lost to them, and Y'shtola just: "Enough, if this isn't the real Thancred, I daresay we've found a suitable replacement." And I just about *died* of laughter. Y'shtola has never been my favorite, but I do love some of her one liners, and that one is my favorite, no matter how much people like ones that were in later expansions. It's so sad that it's been removed and no one can ever see it again. 😭
The worst part is that, because of the increasing amount of primal/Garlean/Ascian disasters, that child did need to make a PMC, even if it enabled the disunity of the Eorzean Alliance for a bit longer. It’s just that he is armchair military and armchair politics to the extreme at this point.

Apparently in the other languages the Ishgardians are much less subtle in their flirting. Alphinaud isn't from Canada. His home is more like if Oxford was its own country.
So in japanese, hauchefaunt is really overtly flirty, like REALLY flirty. They toned it down a lot in the English, probably because they were worried it veered on the edge of workplace harassment

My guess is that some of the splicing they did to post Realm Reborn’s quests (that you no doubt have been told about to death) may have played a part. I don’t know enough about the original but that may have played a part.

It is my belief that early Final Fantasy 14 NPC names were made by using the keyboard in every unconventional way imaginable.
