For the Castlevania video, I honestly prefer when you guys make things randomly that aren’t topical. Still like the topical stuff of course, I just like when a surprise like that comes out. Love the set design too.

Making fun little vids and expanding their production capabilities will only mean better vids in the future. I immediately noticed the miniature work was so cool looking and easily the best set design work they have done. Keep making cool shit guys.

I love listening to you guys talk about random stuff you're into or what you've been up to lately. Was actually interested in Shawn explaining how he and Garrett built the set together and Rocco talking about The Fablemans. It really sours the mood though when Derrick comes in after they're done saying their piece and just sandbags the crap out of it. I know he's dunking on it as mostly a joke, but it still kind of comes off as passive aggressively saying that their topic is not interesting.
I think this is an exaggeration, but they do feel a weird obligation to being a gaming podcast when it's not a subject they always feel compelled about.

Not all criticism is unwarranted. Been watching before UA-cam existed, it would take a lot to quit watching but I don't like everything, and that's fine with me, hopefully it's fine with you guys.
After almost 20 years the remaining fans are in a parasocial relationship with mega64 so criticism personally hurts them.

Gotta say, the energy on this episode was weird. Loved the new vid, loved hearing about the BTS stuff. I feel like there was some interesting stuff in there about new production capabilities that got overshadowed by needing to defend a perfectly good video with "you didn't like it and you're wrong."

Can confirm Rocco's opinion about frassbender's Steve Jobs movie. It was freakin great. Its a biopic movie that can stand on its own, even if you're not familiar or don't care at all about apple or steve jobs, the movie is still engaging and feels well made.
I’m glad you guys put the skit out, it’s good to push boundaries in comedy.

Straight cope. Dealing with criticism is part of the process and just comes with the territory. You can't ask people to invest their time in you without them having opinions on things. While I do agree that if you don't like something just don't watch it, that doesn't really come into play here. Mega64 has been around for so long that they've undergone changes, some minor and some major, and with that comes long time fans that may feel like the channel isn't "for them" anymore. It should be no surprise that people have opinions. Now that doesn't mean they have to sit there and take it, they are certainly allowed to respond but telling people to just shut up isn't the way to go about it. That however in my opinion doesn't extend to people who are just being assholes for the sake of it but at the same time there are a lot of people that have opinions on what could improve, that doesn't mean they hate the boys. Either way I got the impression they were talking specifically about the thread on 4Chan's /tv/ that was up a couple weeks ago.

It's weird that the negative comments on the new Castlevania video are so buried and not at all prominent in the comments section and Derrick feels the need to keep going over the negative criticism for like twenty minutes in this podcast. It seems like he's got one hell of a fragile ego man, especially after all this time in the public eye.
Still after like 20 years they make me fall off my chair laughing.
I'd theorize that maybe if the viewer see's Belmont fleshed out for 20 minutes in say, a film rather than a YT short, then we see Belmont(the character) reconsidering his faith when meeting Dracula. To see it happen within 90 seconds makes some viewers still only able to see themselves through Belmont making ti more personal which is why they might get needlessly offended. If that makes any sense.

I enjoyed the Castlevania video because Derrick’s jokes are some of the most surface digs on Christians. Hard to feel offended at a funny gag. Showed my youth pastor, he loved it.

Why do they feel the need to always talk about the reception of their newest videos?
I think it comes with the territory of making comedy vids for almost 20 years, you become weirdly sensitive to criticism.
I think the castlevania skit was perfectly timed whether you meant it or not. The discourse online recently has been about Christians not following their own values and how the Bible doesn't say to hate gay people.

as far as any controversy over your recent Castlevania is concerned, You guys still put out good work, and I can appreciate that, even if the jokes do not always land for me. While I do not think you were specifically hating on Christians in your recent video, It really did catch me off guard, and I reacted just as quickly in a knee jerk way. I still feel the same, but I admit to the need of being more careful in the future when it comes to such things.
I wasn't really surprised by it. I say this with all due respect but they are left leaning guys born and raised in San Diego. It really shouldn't be a huge surprise to anyone. It's also not the first time they have lampooned religion, the Catholic Gaming skits come to mind in regards to this. I'm not religious either so it didn't really hit me like it hit a lot of people but I guess I can also see the side where you could find it a bit tasteless. They are however comedians and the purpose of comedy should be to push the envelope and hit on subjects that are considered taboo. Then again knocking on religion in 2022 is a bit played out so I don't know. Overall I enjoyed the video even though it was a bit one dimensional when compared to their earlier work. I just wish they would do more stuff that wasn't podcast/Twitch focused. I think we all miss the days where they were pumping out skits. Times change though so as long as they feel happy with their work that's all that really matters.
@@Kramerica962 I would love to see them remaster their older videos. The final Fantasy 12, Castlevania, and metal gear solid videos are my top faves by them.
