Truly blew my mind when Rocco mentioned the alien walking past in Signs. I was thinking about that exact moment right after he asked the question about which Horror movie scared you the most. I saw that movie when I was far too young and that specific scene had me sleeping with all of the lights on for like a month. Etched into my brain forever lol.
Still the scariest thing I have EVER seen in a film. Still have nightmares about that.

The Regenerators in RE4 had been hyped up so much and I have never been so disappointed in an enemy. The sound effect was creepy, but then you get the weapon to annihilator them like 2 minutes after encountering the first one and all you have to do is shoot the little things in them and they're super slow and non-threatening from then on.
He literally told us he'd shave his hair for the show right in plain sight. Prophecy fulfilled.
With how big of a fan Garrett is of Resident Evil, I think you guys could do a great Resident Evil in 5 minutes series with Garrett helping to make sure things are accurate.

Speaking of movies that feel like a never ending nightmare, I don’t think anything has scared me more than Inland Empire. I recommend watching it by yourself at night, & never checking how much of the movie is left.

I think a lot of people will say game are 'not scary' because they just watch a random twitch streamer go through it and don't actually play them.
Also there is an entire Mythic Quest episode (S01E05 A Dark Quiet Death), the episode is a one-off flashblack about how a creator who makes a scary game, and the only thing you have is a flashlight, and its smash hit. It gets picked up and serialized, and every new game the #1 thing people try to add to the game is combat and weapons, and 'winning' the game - basically the creator is adamantly against it but eventually is overtaken. It's a beautiful episode.
They built the USB Arena at Belmont Park for The Islanders and leaving every event is just waiting for cars to move and people getting pissed at each other because there was no thought put into how they'd mesh with the traffic outside the lot. Say what you want about how decrepit the Nassau Coliseum was, at least you could leave in an orderly fashion.

Regarding Shawn’s feeling toward horror games: Joseph Anderson made a great point in a video of his, that the reason he doesn’t find horror games frightening is because your character is never really in danger. You’re an immortal god, coming back to life again and again to defeat the monster, or scary level, etc. So there’s no tension
Oh there used to be stakes all right! It’s just that modern games autosave for you every step you take. The feeling of losing hours of painstaking progress to a single mistake taps into a primal fear. The problem is that that’s not a thing anymore.
Weirdly narrow take on the genre. People get scared for way more reasons than just over a character's safety.

On the scary discussion, idk Rocco. It goes both ways. Just because someone didn't find it scary doesn't mean it isn't, but the same goes the other way around. Just because you did find it scary doesn't mean it is. Also, playing it on mouse and keyboard doesn't affect the horror. You might be on to something for the PC gamer thing though, but not 100% because of the medium of PC.
I play on PC, but I still make sure to turn off the RGB and other monitors and sit in the dark and absorb it. I'm sure there's also console gamers that don't absorb it at all. Just being on a console with a big TV doesn't really fit.
I think its a lot more of the fact that there are games only on PC where the caliber of horror is a MILLION times higher. I don't think RE8 was that scary. The baby was the worst part, but it was so short and so simple that it didn't leave a lasting impression of horror on me and on replay its not scary at all cause I know the exact 3 steps you need to take to beat it no problem. Something like the water demon in Amnesia, the soul crushingly slow burn of Iron Lung, these things are so much scarier in my opinion that anything ever put in a resident evil game.
I agree, there’s so much more variety and quantity of games on the PC market compared to console.

i think another theory for the "steam cucks" is that they could be playing music or listening to music or something. A lot of the things mentioned work off of atmosphere that is largely supported by excellent sound design. all of that is lost with something else playing in the background.

Rocco’s feelings on barbarian are how I felt, it was a creative story, but I felt like a lot of the positive response was a reaction to the fact that people were shocked (not to say that isn’t valid) but I thought it was an okay movie
I'm a little flabbergasted at the overall response to the movie. I wouldn't say it was "bad", but I saw everything coming and was surprised only by the characters making the decisions they did (completely nonsensical, even when not in the grips of fear). The best portion of the movie imo is everything before Justin Long enters. Very forgettable.

barbarian was pretty mid to me. the question of "who do i trust" ended in like the first 40 minutes because everyone i didnt trust dies and then it just becomes a wacky horror movie with underwhelming scares

The real reason these people are saying the RE games aren't scary anymore is because they were younger when they played the original games, and they were scared by them. They grew up and became jaded to the genre and now they're just neckbeards.
