  • Hello, in this video I talk about the pros and cons of the autel scanner after having owned and used it for the last 3 and a half years.
I purchased mine from O'Reilly's back in 2021 and have used it a LOT over the last few years. I would often switch to my other scanners for videos but then make sure the readings were correct by using the Autel to compare it against.
If you watch a lot of my review videos I often say that I love the scanners, which I do. I dont think I own a scanner I do not like they all have their pros and cons. I have the following brands.
    Autel
    Launch
    Topdon
    Foxwell
    Xtool
    Ancel
    Vdiag
they all serve their purpose. I dont think I have a scanner I would not recommend.
What most people dont know is what sites we use to find the oem code diagnostics.
    Alldata : www.alldata.co...
    Identifix : store.identifi...
    Mitchel on demand : www.prodemand....
NASTF that gives you access to all the oem sites : wp.nastf.org/
    I hope this helps.

I just today bought Autel MK908 Pro ll , paid $1700 for it … I’m tired of getting ripped off by mechanic shops all the time … I took my Mercedes S550 to have diagnostic done, they charged me $240 , and I have 3 cars , S550 Mercedes, Porsche Cayenne and Dodge Challenger, this thing will pay itself off in no time … I’m actually looking forward to learn to do diagnostics anyway …

Not sure how I stumbled upon your series, but your videos are super helpful for someone who tinkers and does maintenance on cars, thank you for not being a shill like 99.99% of other channels out there.

I enjoyed the review as always. A couple of items, you probably already thought of that are concerns to me (as a shade tree mechanic) include:
    - These things are basically software and an adapter, loaded to an Android tablet of some sort, wrapped in a rugged case. Your battery life issue is probably do to this being a very cheap tablet. I can get the same specifications in a tablet from AliExpress for less than $100. I'd feel better about spending the money if this software was loaded on something like a Samsung or more premium tablet. (My 10 year old Samsung still has good battery life). I bet that little nerdy kid you didn't hire to clean your shop could probably move the software over to a newer, higher end tablet for you.
    - Updates are probably more important to you than me. The newest car in my fleet happens to be a 2024, and I don't see a newer car in the next several years. Some of the scanners are marketed with a couple of years of free updates.
    - Battery life is also probably more important to you than the average shade tree person, since you work on multiple cars in a day.
    - Functionality, number of bells and whistles varies according to needs. Shops often outsource programming of certain modules to a shop that specializes in programming, since they don't want to sink the big bucks in scanners and software to do a few such jobs per month. Personally, I could really use the key programming functionality, as it seems like my family can lose a key fob while driving the car. Not going to get that in a budget scanner.
    - Price is the biggest thing most are concerned with. I'm going to drop roughly $1,000 on an Autel, but I am doing so knowing it will not necessarily cure all my problems, rather probably point me in a direction I need to work.

I use it everyday day ..very effective.

Can you advise on the mb century as I'm looking at buying one? And I will be fixing older cars from 03-2015 also I'm trying to learn or understand the difference between the types of multiplexers like c 3,4&5 which is best
    Thanks 👍

I own a 2018 Mercedes GLE 400 with Canadian specifications and am planning to replace both the main and auxiliary batteries. Do I need a scanner or diagnostic tool to register the new batteries after installation?

    • @MasterTechLou
      @MasterTechLou  Місяць тому

yes you do but we only register the main battery. its basically resetting the charge values in the sam.

@ Thank you for your prompt response. Previously, you reviewed the Launch Creader Elite Benz tool. Could you confirm if this Creader Elite OBD device has the capability to register a battery?

Lithium batteries don't like to be at full (float or surface) charge for an extended time. Store at 50-80 % when not in use. I know that's not practical for a professional shop.

@@Ronick-Q-46 I have yet to work with programming on either scanner but other then that, I would say launch is probably autels biggest competitor. The launch x431 I bought in 2017 does wonders and also the current launch scanners I have that I have yet to video.

I have the MX808 I think it is. I HATE IT. It's So impossibly slow. I used it I think 3 times, and I put it back in the case and leaving it to rot. I should sell it but cant afford another one yet. So still using a old cheap handheld. Now. I'm just a shadetree But I spent like 800 on it. Just so let down. I hope yours does better.

Don't know why they included extra adapters. They are worthless because of the software that doesn't even support using them
