I don't like the ghosts either because they bother you from walking slowly and enjoying the atmosphere. But i guess it was done on purpose to make the game harder and scarier. Plus it makes it more strategic when you get that dagger which keeps them down until the dagger is removed, so you are forced to play it smart, not just running and destroying everything. It made you put effort and tactics, while feeling vulnerable and always on your toes. I think they tried to do the opposite of Resident Evil, where if you killed all the zombies in one area, everytime you pass there again it would be empty and not scary at all. SH4 wants to keep the game always alive and always creepy. For me personally SH4 is one of the best horror games i ever played, alongside Fatal Frame. The ambience is not that cozy as other SH games, the music not as memorable, but as a horror game on its own i think it's the best. It's so original, unique and creative, and very creepy and disturbing, it's scary without jumpscares. That part in the subway station with the crawling ghost girl, the dolls on the wall, the big eye room, fcking ghosts coming in your room from walls.. They will always remain in my memory. And SH4 was the first game where i never felt safe anywhere, once the apartment got haunted that was next level, unlike anything i've seen before. I don't like it, but i respect the devs decision to give you a constant feeling of horror. In my opinion the game deserves a remake because it is a masterpiece.
