I really appreciate the positive comment. One of my goals with this layout wat to demonstrate that real locations can be modeled in O with a medium space. Its exciting to me to try to recreate train scenes in familiar locations like Harpers Ferry. Next challenge is to add realistic scenery.
Wow, first comment I can recall from down under! Thanks and yes, I've rail fanned all of the locations modeled on this layout. Perhaps the reason I've put off scenery is that I want it to be as prototypical as possible. Sitting in the middle really is a lot of fun when I get 4 trains going.
Glad you liked the video. I recently watched a similar layout tour and appreciated the perspective a tour provides. Many of my train running videos are shot to intentionally highlight scenes that have at least some scenery.
Dude, you have been along for the ride since the first version of this layout. The dream is becoming a reality and its been fun. Looking forward to adding some mountains and towns to give my train collection the stage they deserve.
Thanks for the positive comment! I've been working on the railroad, almost every day. When we moved to this house 5 years ago I knew I'd build a layout in the unfinished basement room. Be sure to check out the South Fork layout on my channel. Thats a real impressive layout that I helped design.
William, thanks for noticing. The other positive I recently noticed is that the bridge is a nice straight piece of track that I can put engines on. Old bridge had superstructure and the track was virtually inaccessible. Only challenge now is to make 2" pier supports from foam that match the stone of the bridge. Ah yes, another scenery project, what fun!
We moved into this house 5 years ago so I had a few years without a layout to plan. Goal was to replicated the tracks (past and present) in Harpers Ferry as much as possible. Glad you like the plan, its working well for me. Darn tall double stacks made me raise grade separation to 6" and grades to 3 percent. But it works.
Hey thanks. I really appreciate the positive comments. So glad to be able to run long trains. Really need to get some scenery done to take layout to the next level. Any suggestions for ground cover would be welcomed
Thanks, I appreciate the comment. Its relatively easy to design a big layout but man, its a lot of work to build. It is a labor of love though and its very satisfying to solve problems and use woodworking and electrical skills.
@@99thObsidian, I retire in a few years. I will finally be able to move into a house with space to build my dream layout...a NYC subway-inspired layout. Of course, I have "zero" skills in carpentry and electrical, but I'm hoping that's what retirement will be all about for me. Keep the videos coming!
@@chrisricciardi1566 I recommend you watch Rich Battista's Black Diamond RR III video. He does a detailed explanation of his NYC subway layout expansion. His videos have inspired much of my layout work. Carpentry is relatively easy since its so forgiving (as long as you don't cut a finger). I'm sure you will find your layout build to be more satisfying than collecting. It has for me. Thanks for your support, look out for something really BIG to be reviewed next (its in the mail). BTW, if you send me your room dimensions I'll be glad to help you with your subway track plan. I proposed a design for a subway system for Seattle when I was in college there.
MTH includes a special RealTrax version of RRTrack with their starter sets. Thats where I became familiar with RRTrack. When a friend wanted to build his layout with Lionel FasTrack I bought the full version of RRTrack which included track libraries from Lionel, Atlas, MTH, Ross and Gargraves. I've designed a few medium & large layouts with Atlas O now and I like that track system. Would not invest in MTH track since its not solid rail and a relatively limited curve and switch selection.
This is one of the best thought out medium size layout I have seen !! And then you replicate land marks !! Awesome job

That's a lot of rail fanning eye-candy in relatively small space. It was good to see your trackplan. Nice work and greetings from Aus :)

Great layout update!!!

Great update!!
Glad you liked it. I literally shot this last night after a long run session. I said to myself, "I should share my progress with my subscribers" LOL
This is coming along really nice! 👍👍 Great work Ken!

@@99thObsidian Looking forward to it! We appreciate you... 🙏😊
Looking good, there's always more work to be done on the layout. 😎👍
Like, man this layout is impressive! 😮

The rockville bridge is incorporated nicely

Nice. Very creative track plan and nicely executed.

Really nice planned layout to achieve your goal…the planned scenic features looking to be superb…new sub Anthony
Thanks for the sub!

Nice job
Thanks, I believe I have that from MTH. I use MTH track

What software did you use to design your track layout and plan?
I used RR Track. Been using it for nearly 20 years for various layouts. It may not be the best but it works for me. www.rrtrack.com/
That`s a nice, me thinks?
Looks good so far , i subscribed c u later !
Thanks for the sub. I subbed back. Just got a JLC C&O so look for a unboxing and run soon.
