I never had MRE cheese in the military. I wonder what it's like. It doesn't really sound too appetizing. Small packets of sticky stuff are a hassle regardless. We did actually get peanut butter packets a few times. Just keep sucking the stuff slowly out of the packet while walking and you don't fall asleep and have something to concentrate on instead of the pain.
Well that's interesting. The Baxters brand logo is the same as Baxters in the UK who make some great soups. As always great video, a pleasure to watch.
Love that coffee mug. And I agree, you would think the US would have thought of the Hamburger MRE first, but it did take us 30 years to get a pizza in MRE form.
Those in charge of US MREs are more concerned with filling out all the required boxes on the nutritional requirement chart than whether or not the damn things are edible. Damn bureaucrats.
My local army surplus recently got a bunch of those 2014 MREs, mostly breakfast ones. But, sifting through, I found a lone hamburger one so I had to get it. I'm new to MREs, but I agree with you, the bean salad was delicious, and the burger was really good too, but I think some cheese spread would have made it better. Still, it was pretty good, and for curiosity's sake I'll definitively get some more eventually. Cheers mate!
Wow. Outstanding IMP Gdog. Great review of what looks like a really well thought out ration pack. I am jealous as F that you are acquiring 2014 menu items from the Canada and I cant seem to find anything up here yet. lol. I really cant think of a better north american meal to get a soldier squared up overseas than a good burger, does anyone make a grilled cheese IMP or MRE yet? A reasonable option for potato sticks aka fries would really be the bomb. If it was me I would trade that peanut butter out for a spreadable cheese.... Looking forward to your next video of course, keep them coming!
The peanut butter is there for an extra option. lets say you eat the meat as a steak or on just one half of the bun. With the peanut butter you can spread it on the bun section(s) instead and enjoy if you desire, maybe saving it for later.
I've seen several places that serve a peanut butter burger. Yup, PB instead of mustard or ketchup. I thought the bean salad was highly suitable for a "picnic" ration. Lastly, it's funny that the French word for hamburger is...hamburger. Hence the one word meal label.
first time watching you gundog4! I started watching Emmyeats awhile back, then kiwidude, you kept popping up on my recommendation, so why not! so far you seem pretty cool! I don't know why I'm obsessed with Y'alls MRE taste testing! but I love it! lol!
The hamburger didn't look that appetizing and the salad not much better but I guess if your out there on a mission and had a rough day and your tired and hungry you would be thankful for anything to recharge your energy .
Interesting enough it's a "thing" at some places. Some of the other commentors called them Goobers. Must admit I'm willing to try it once at least. Cheers
I know that ration food get "boring" after the first bite, but do u guys (fellow youtubers) think it would be a good idea to nutrionally feed soldiers for battle or is it more of a treat ?
I think it is more important to fuel the body first. The little creature comforts are nice but if I have to carry the weight I just want the protein, carbs, fruits/Veg and fats. Cheers!
Great review. Yes we Canadians love burgers as much as you Americans. I was reading on wikipedia about military rations. There's another Canadian hamburger ration that includes a poutine (pronounced pooteen). Ever tried one? They're really good. They should've added cheese to the burger. Oh well.
Looks tasty! I agree that it's a little odd that there's nothing like breakfast potatoes or som ething like that, though. I miss shelf-stable bread. :/
It could have been but they were pretty well bonded together besides I don't know why you'd eat them separate unless you wanted 2 open face burgers. Cheers Rick
Great review on A different meal. Personally, I pass on Ketchup and mustard, go for steak sauce and Mayo. I know the mayo would not keep in A meal, steak sauce would be good tho. I like the idea on the potato sticks, maybe the powers might listen?? They can't put cheese or pickles, but A Jalapeno or bacon cheese spread might have worked nicely? Peace, John, Magnum. Keep em' coming friend.
I think it really depends on what it is too. I rarely get TFF stuff in my rations, but Gschultz gets them all the time....maybe G is being targeted lol. Cheers
The one thing I've learned since doing rations is smaller companies either form larger groups or get gobbled up and bought by a bigger company. I did a 1991/92 IMP it may have been a Freddychef I just don't recall. Cheers Allen
that is a better code! and if they ad lettuce and maters in there that would have really been something!!!i'm surprised you didn't get a heater with it? personally, I think i'd prefer baked beans myself but still not bad!!
Like it has enough coffee to have a between meal coffee break. Some regular onion in a tiny retort like the Asia pickled veggies and pack of dill relish would of been awesome. Plus cheese instead of peanut butter
I agree you lucked out getting the extra gum but i can’t help thinking of the poor Canadian soldier crying into his vanilla cappuccino because he only got one gum in his meal pack.
Smarter then who Boomer? I hope your not dumb enough to claim there smarter then Americans cause we invent a lot of stuff n Canada invents what oh yeah Nutella nothing special there not smarter then Americans I will say 1 name Justin Bieber case closed
THANK GOD! Someone else who says it "ree-see's pee-see's' not 'ree-sis pee-sis' lol I have been calling em the former all my life, just like you, and some people think I am nuts lol #HighFive Great review as usual, btw. Someday I'd love to get my hands on a Canadian IMP and try it
Also the 2nd time ya said the candy named sounded like the 2nd pronunciation :P Idk, all I know is I pronounce it as I pronounce it cause it makes it sound fun. Plus - how can ya go wrong with a candy that looks like Halloween year round? Sadly I eat them maybe twice a year lol I need to more often
Pizza should be out the end of Octoberish at the beginning of FY17. Honestly, I think it's going to be a let down cause who only ever wants 1 piece of pizza!? Do I hear 2 Pack? lol Cheers
Doesn't look like a bad meal. But a couple of issues; where are the pickles and onions? No crackers for the peanut butter? No cookie or other dessert? How about one of those milkshake mixes? I like your idea of the potato sticks, or maybe a little tub a potato crisps (Pringles). I would rate it a high 7 or an 8. Just needs a few additional things to bring it to a 10.
They actually have Flameless Ration Heaters in the CF supply system; I think the reason that they are issued separately was due to Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations; the IMP packaging isn't robust and waterproof like US MRE's, so there's a greater chance of the FRH being punctured and activated if it got wet. Those things don't just heat up, they also give off hydrogen gas.
They can be found in Army-Navy type stores but the best way is to track down a friend or friend of a friend in the Forces. I'm lucky I know some very resourceful people.
+gundog4314 alright I'll just have to wait and see if any come, thanks for letting me know there hard to come by so I'm not sitting all day try to find one, thanks for the help!
the bun is a little off puting if you haven't had the old shelf stable bread loaf. the bean salad wasn't the best choice of sides, chips/crisps would be almost impossible to have in there without ending up with a bunch of crumbs. does Canada have hash brown sticks in one of their rations? cheese spread would have definitely "bean"(lol) a better choice than peanut butter. good amount of drinks as usual. is it just me or does it look like they made the patty to be split in half? I'm not sure what could have been put in between unless you have something tucked back from a previous ration. nicely done!

Generally there's a communal pot that the whole crew heats their packs in. Alternately, there's a solid fuel stove that nests with the canteen and cup for individuals to use.
Well of course, but when all my European friends come over they always want to try a real deal Hamburger, Hotdog and Pizza. I will admit one of the best burgers I ever ate was a Teriyaki Burger in Vancouver BC. Cheers!
I've only been able to sample what I get. They have a few more menus out there now that I someday hope to enjoy as well. I wished if you got a case of EPa's they weren't all the same menu or I'd seriously consider doing that. Cheers!
I find this comment funny, even if they were separated and eaten as two open face sandwiches it's still the exact same mass and volume. I mean it's not a magic burger lol. Cheers MK
fabio bianchi Australian beef! We make the best corned beef! That stuff from NZ is too fatty and don't get me started on any corned beef that's comes from Brazil... so what if it's approved by the "governo federal do Brasil" it's too salty and chewy!
Cheese spread instead of peanut butter would have been better. Make a cheese burger.
Have mre cheese on that burger and you still tell me that you don't want the peanut butter.
+LordDavid04 I would eat The PB straight from The Packet.
thats what i was thinking as well
I never had MRE cheese in the military.
Tripticket it'll back you up
So that is the famous Pain Hamburger. I wonder if it stabs you painfully when you try to eat it.
'pain' is french for bread. haha Canada is an English/French speaking country.
***** I know, I studied French at school. It was just hilarious
Honestly, I'm thinking the pizza is going to be a letdown. I mean who the heck can eat only one piece of pizza!?!?
gundog4314
Maybe, but it took them 30 years to do that. Maybe do something along the lines of Back To The Future 2 with the hydrated pizzas?
Never knew we had a hamburger , that is neat
Us Canadians beat you Americans to the burger, looks like it needs some tweaks tho. Maybe cheese spread instead of peanut butter?
Some said peanut butter on the burger is called a goober. Never heard of it before. Honestly not interested in trying it either lol
+gundog4314 peanut butter on burgers is good though. Have you ever had a fried egg on a burger before? That is also really good
Miri Gaming Yes, love that.
Goober peas are another name for peanuts
Those in charge of US MREs are more concerned with filling out all the required boxes on the nutritional requirement chart than whether or not the damn things are edible. Damn bureaucrats.
My local army surplus recently got a bunch of those 2014 MREs, mostly breakfast ones. But, sifting through, I found a lone hamburger one so I had to get it. Now I'm hungry. Nice review. Thank you for sharing. Hello from Toronto.
I agree that this is
a better date code =
5 digits more accurate.
Really liked this one. I always liked the IMPs a lot.
Looking forward to your next video of course, keep them coming!
I just and trading with people that find all this good stuff you mean....I am just pawing my way through the ration darkness like yourself LOL
Excellent, looking forward to the next one.
I guess if it were American, we'd want baked beans, potato salad and a soda. lol! looks good Canada!
The peanut butter is there for an extra option. lets say you eat the meat as a steak or on just one half of the bun. With the peanut butter you can spread it on the bun section(s) instead and enjoy if you desire, maybe saving it for later.
Wow! That's pretty smart! :-)
You could have tried to put the beans in the burger, it might have helped the dryness of the bread too..
Hay. Gundog. Its. Icebreakers. Gum
Watching these MRE videos makes me hungry..
really delicious looking mre! nice job Gundog
I've seen several places that serve a peanut butter burger. Yup, PB instead of mustard or ketchup. I thought the bean salad was highly suitable for a "picnic" ration. Lastly, it's funny that the French word for hamburger is...hamburger. Hence the one word meal label.
ah ha! the notorious. goober burger!
first time watching you gundog4! I started watching Emmyeats awhile back, then kiwidude, you kept popping up on my recommendation, so why not! so far you seem pretty cool! I don't know why I'm obsessed with Y'alls MRE taste testing! but I love it! lol!
Looks like a tasty ration. Thanks for the review!
Looks pretty tasty if i might say so. Yes another night of binge watching ration videos.:) cant get enough:)
hot sauce would have been good on the burger too.
Recently stumbled across your channel, I love your videos! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I like the addition of Frank's Red Hot.
Great review brother. Really enjoyed it. The one I tried I put at a 9. The taste was just more than I could have expected from a ration hamburger.
I totally concur! Cheers B
The hamburger didn't look that appetizing and the salad not much better but I guess if your out there on a mission and had a rough day and your tired and hungry you would be thankful for anything to recharge your energy .
we used to get the peanut butter in tubes like toothpaste for the longest time. Yep, often we'd keep em for a quick energy kick.
I'm such a total fan of the "tube food" concept.
Why in the hell would they put peanut butter in here instead of squeeze cheese?
Interesting enough it's a "thing" at some places. Some of the other commentors called them Goobers. Must admit I'm willing to try it once at least. Cheers
Anthony Delamont squeeze cheese sounds disgusting and sounds like it causes diabetes.
What no Mayo or cheese???
I know that ration food get "boring" after the first bite, but do u guys (fellow youtubers) think it would be a good idea to nutrionally feed soldiers for battle or is it more of a treat ?
I think it is more important to fuel the body first. The little creature comforts are nice but if I have to carry the weight I just want the protein, carbs, fruits/Veg and fats. Cheers!
What a fitting birthday gift, thank you sir! Lol
I'm surprised with how big a fan they are of mayo that they didn't have a pouch/packet/pillow of that in the pack along with cheese spread.
i have had mres from the 80s while in the us navy and we had hamburger patty in one of them,
Fruit Punch, I've not seen that one before.
Bean Salad too, wow, I am impressed.
The Balsamic vinegar is a sweet/sour sort of thing and I think it should be very enjoyable don't put too much mustard or you won't be able to eat it.
Frank's Red Hot. I put that s*it on everything.
Great review. Yes we Canadians love burgers as much as you Americans. I was reading on wikipedia about military rations. There's another Canadian hamburger ration that includes a poutine (pronounced pooteen). Ever tried one? They're really good. They should've added cheese to the burger. Oh well.
Everyone has been talking about that one and haven't had the opportunity as of yet. But I'll keep my eyes out for one. Cheers
Looks tasty! I agree that it's a little odd that there's nothing like breakfast potatoes or som ething like that, though.
I miss shelf-stable bread. :/
Why have you disable the like / dislike ??
the mre has a beef patty meal in it. Which included bacon cheese spread
the us does have a hamburger mre its been out for about 4 years there for sale on line every were
That looks like two pattys stacked on each other.
that's what I was thinking.
It could have been but they were pretty well bonded together besides I don't know why you'd eat them separate unless you wanted 2 open face burgers. Cheers Rick
Ugh, that bean salad is making me hungry. :p
Wait till you see the lunch I just had in a Spanish ration I'm filming....to die for. Cheers!
+gundog4314 welp, I'm intrigued! :) Thanks for the tummy teaser. lol
im surprised they didn't include "hickory sticks" which are dried and flavored potato sticks
Did , Gavin exempt the making of the paine hamburger bun 😂
Awesome!
Would be nice if it was a jalapeno patty! Cheers John
another ration I'd love to try but can't find anywhere
I love Salisbury steaks!
did you happen to notice if any of the items had transfats? the US DoD seems to like them in the MREs
I think it really depends on what it is too. I rarely get TFF stuff in my rations, but Gschultz gets them all the time....maybe G is being targeted lol. Cheers
So the Freddychef label is history and is now Baxters? I had some Freddychef back in the 90s. Super duper stuff. The ones I tried anyway.
The one thing I've learned since doing rations is smaller companies either form larger groups or get gobbled up and bought by a bigger company. I did a 1991/92 IMP it may have been a Freddychef I just don't recall. Cheers Allen
Looks good from here thank you for the video.
that is a better code! and if they ad lettuce and maters in there that would have really been something!!!i'm surprised you didn't get a heater with it? personally, I think i'd prefer baked beans myself but still not bad!!

The struggle IS real HAHA
anyone here Canadian? (I am)
Yep!
3:00Miner myeeeeppp
3:00Miner me
Smarter then who Boomer? I hope your not dumb enough to claim there smarter then Americans cause we invent a lot of stuff n Canada invents what oh yeah Nutella nothing special there not smarter then Americans I will say 1 name Justin Bieber case closed
Yep
THANK GOD! Someone else who says it "ree-see's pee-see's' not 'ree-sis pee-sis' lol I have been calling em the former all my life, just like you, and some people think I am nuts lol #HighFive Great review as usual, btw. Someday I'd love to get my hands on a Canadian IMP and try it
Especially this one, it looks awesome, love burgers and Reese's Pieces
Also the 2nd time ya said the candy named sounded like the 2nd pronunciation :P Idk, all I know is I pronounce it as I pronounce it cause it makes it sound fun. Plus - how can ya go wrong with a candy that looks like Halloween year round? Sadly I eat them maybe twice a year lol I need to more often
Yeah someone else who says it wrong
I suppose it's a good thing the company isn't named Reenis.
+Rocky Raab Hahaha. I'm dead. xD
baxters that's a Scottish food company from fochabers in the north east of Scotland didn't know they were international
The Canadians beat us to a hamburger MRE, someone in Washington quick think quick PIZZA PIZZA PIZZA.
Pizza should be out the end of Octoberish at the beginning of FY17. Honestly, I think it's going to be a let down cause who only ever wants 1 piece of pizza!? Do I hear 2 Pack? lol Cheers
Canada had pizza years ago! :)
Welcome to Canada! We have better MREs 😎
That's not really saying much. Lol. In fact like 85% of the world has better MREs than we do in the U.S. xD
+Andrew Baker russian and french mres are better
I'm surprised you didn't put some hot sauce on that burger
Doesn't look like a bad meal. But a couple of issues; where are the pickles and onions? No crackers for the peanut butter? No cookie or other dessert? How about one of those milkshake mixes? I like your idea of the potato sticks, or maybe a little tub a potato crisps (Pringles). I would rate it a high 7 or an 8. Just needs a few additional things to bring it to a 10.
10 doesn't exist.
I tend to agree with you. The only 10's I've ever had were home cooked by Mom. Cheers
If you're hungry enough, anything's a 10.
This isn't your moms house, this is a military ration. If it was steak and lobster you would be complaining it was too good.
Where can you buy these from
Not Canadian. Where's the sheet that says "SORRY"?
Has anyone used the heaters from the U.S. news to heat the Canadian imps?
You can use them however most IMP retort pouches are wider than the standard US FRH. Of course if you folded it a bit no worries!
gundog4314 THANKS gundog
They actually have Flameless Ration Heaters in the CF supply system; I think the reason that they are issued separately was due to Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations; the IMP packaging isn't robust and waterproof like US MRE's, so there's a greater chance of the FRH being punctured and activated if it got wet. Those things don't just heat up, they also give off hydrogen gas.
I cant remember what country but they have canned hamburgers. La beast here on UA-cam did a food challenge where he ate a bunch of them.
I love your videos. Any chance u guys do a video on Israeli military Ration Packs? Thank you
Yes, agree on that, mints are not at all as effective as using chewing gum for dental hygiene purposes.
i would had used the hotsauce on the burger.
but idk if the bean salad needed spice its preference ofc
my question is how do you get your hands on one of those? I live in canada and can't find one lol
They can be found in Army-Navy type stores but the best way is to track down a friend or friend of a friend in the Forces. I'm lucky I know some very resourceful people.
Where can I get an imp I've been wanting to get one for myself but I don't know where to get one
Those things are tough. I've only seen one on ebay and it was from 2008/9 time frame. It's one of those "you got to have a guy" things. Cheers
+gundog4314 alright I'll just have to wait and see if any come, thanks for letting me know there hard to come by so I'm not sitting all day try to find one, thanks for the help!
+ArmyFan Canada alright I'll probably email yeah then
That burger makes 7-11 prepackaged burgers look like caviar - and i'm including the one I had back in 96 where the meat was green in that
Still, it is a piece of home when you are stuck out in the field or an OP on a hill. Cheers
+gundog4314 i think there should have been cheese instead of peanut butter
+Djmandude517 Video games I was thinking the same thing. Maybe even open it up and sandwich the cheese spread between the bun before heating.
Do you guys not have ice breakers? Lmao how did he not realize that was a mint
the bun is a little off puting if you haven't had the old shelf stable bread loaf. the bean salad wasn't the best choice of sides, chips/crisps would be almost impossible to have in there without ending up with a bunch of crumbs. does Canada have hash brown sticks in one of their rations? cheese spread would have definitely "bean"(lol) a better choice than peanut butter. good amount of drinks as usual. is it just me or does it look like they made the patty to be split in half? I'm not sure what could have been put in between unless you have something tucked back from a previous ration. nicely done!
it kind of looks like 2 put together rather than 1? personally i'd rather have baked beans myself and cheese would definitely add to it!!
Just wondering what would happen if they received a bunch of comment cards from the States....lol
Josh Hilton we all did/do.... doesn't mean you can't improve it a little bit with some improvisation.
+Kevin Moore - the funny part is that Canadians and Americans have quite a few of the same items in their IMP and MREs ( some of the same sources) BUT Canadians seem to have a bit more diversity - Salmon, this burger, etc.
I think there should be more vegetable components as well as vitamin tabs( corn, peas, green beans could be in a side dish pouch)
No argument there +Keith Gee
The jalapeno pepperjack beef patty is a good 2nd...
Hi, do you know how they heat up the meals? No FRH?
It's designed to be heated in warm/hot water. Cheers
Generally there's a communal pot that the whole crew heats their packs in. Alternately, there's a solid fuel stove that nests with the canteen and cup for individuals to use.
What's the point of "date codes"... why don't they just put the actual date on there?
I really tend to agree with you on that one but who ever said the the military made sense? LOL Cheers!
was that 2 beef patties stuck together?
In Canada we put ketchup and mustard on our burgers
We also put vinegar on our chips.
You act as if it's rare to add that too a burger, in fact that that is most common thing allot of people do...
its like a god damn bbq in a bag!
What? No chemical heater?
More like a lunch bag than a MRE
Well, it's not just Americans who eat burgers anymore!
Well of course, but when all my European friends come over they always want to try a real deal Hamburger, Hotdog and Pizza. I will admit one of the best burgers I ever ate was a Teriyaki Burger in Vancouver BC. Cheers!
gundog4314 Cheers to you, too!
those canadian mres will really get your dogs barking. so to speak.
if you ever have the chance try penut butter on your burger we call it a goober burger
Nope. Even the name is off-putting
What about the german EPa Typ 1!!
I've only been able to sample what I get. They have a few more menus out there now that I someday hope to enjoy as well. I wished if you got a case of EPa's they weren't all the same menu or I'd seriously consider doing that. Cheers!
Pain is French for bread for anyone who is wondering what the heck is going on with that packaging
- Canadians!?
....their beer sucks! -
from "Canadian Bacon"
dir. Michael Moore
Lots of protein in one meal I would think
I wish a US mre had a hamburger
Capt. Fluffy it does now
That link on the back xD what a waste of ink.
It's not gum it's a ice breaker it's candy that makes your breathe smell better
Yeah, I figured that out. Cheers
You can kill someone with that Napkin. Lol!
its seems to be 2 patties
the whole dam review and he never noticed it was two patties
I find this comment funny, even if they were separated and eaten as two open face sandwiches it's still the exact same mass and volume. I mean it's not a magic burger lol. Cheers MK
Where did you get this one?
i would be worried when read pain burger where does the pain come in? LOL
pain = bread ( in french ) :P
the pain comes when the food has passed through u and ready to be birthed with much pain to this world :P
the pain comes when the food has passed through u and ready to be birthed with much pain to this world :P
The young troops love them I think it sucks
You pronounced reese's wrong... just sayin'
Put the Peanut Butter on the burger!
1:38 It says "PAIN HAMBURGER"
I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come...
Nope went down and out smooth. Cheers NY
gundog4314
Ew, lol.
Pain is French for bread
TopMan
shhhhhh, you're ruining the fun.
+numberyellow 😂😂😂 sa sea in blage mr aux revoir!!😂
We Canadians have the best beef in the world. ALBERTA BEEF
No, the best beef is from Australia.
No the best beef is from NZ... oh wait, that can of Palm corned beef I opened is like HALF fat! :P
Tony Pepperoni
Not exactly. Hamper corned beef is the best. It doesn't contain too much fat like Palm does.
Sorry Bud, the Argentinean Beef is the best in the world.
fabio bianchi
Australian beef! We make the best corned beef! That stuff from NZ is too fatty and don't get me started on any corned beef that's comes from Brazil... so what if it's approved by the "governo federal do Brasil" it's too salty and chewy!
