I'm not sure how I ended up here, but I have been watching these MRE reviews all day long. It has inspired me to go down to the basement and grab some of my MREs and try them out. They need to be rotated anyway. So now I'm sitting in my house eating MREs and watching MRE reviews, lol.
I think it can be effectively said that the best MREs/retort food have to be stews and BBQ/slow-roasted items. It complements the packing style VERY well...
I want you to know, I watch a tonne of your videos usually right before bed with the subtitles turned on because the volume is ususlly turned down. This was my favourite - in addition to the normal amusing replacements that youtube has for MRE i also got to enjoy "beef brisket" as the words "lets risk it". Hahahaha. Fantastic video.
Looks like another great review Kiwi Dude. But I'm going to wait for the actual review of the brisket itself because I've never had it and have been trying to find the time to review one myself. I want to try to be as unfamiliar with it until that time comes. Hope it was good!
This was my All-time favorite menu... It had a lot in it and I loved mixing the mashed potatoes and the brisket together to make a delicious main dish!
I am actually very impressed with this channel, as I said with my last comment, replies to comments constantly, and lots of uploads, especially as every upload costs you money to do. Props!
1weirdgirl Thanks. Great to hear it brought back some fond memories. We had this sitting in the cupboard for months, so it was great to finally break it out.
G'day from Illinois, USA Kiwi! I just happened to have a brisket MRE in my closet, so I opened, heated, and ate along with you. Mine was also an Ameriqual, but from 2010. Mine had a biscuit instead of garlic mashed potatoes, but I still got a packet of Butter Buds. I just dumped in on the brisket. I also got a completely useless packet of barbeque sauce. I have chocolate toffee instead of Twizzlers, and my drinks are cocoa powder and lemon iced tea mix. Other than that I have what you got. Cheers and have a good one as they say over here! P.S. Subbed!
I love that The Boss is in uniform for this video! Also, the raspberry drink packet is so much smaller because it's sugar free. It only takes a little bit of aspartame to get a lot of sweetness. I'm really glad that you didn't give any to Crystal, though. That looked like vicious stuff. :) Great job as always, Kiwi Dude! I really enjoy your videos.
Revina Que Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! The Boss loves that uniform. She's in it every chance she gets. It's amazing how little artificial sweetener is needed to achieve a similar sweetness to sugar. Powerful stuff!
Yeah those two are horrendous, and because the E-3's and below love to rat fuck the MRE boxes I've come across one too many pork sausage w/ gravy MRE's...sigh...lol
There are Some that are Horrible. I was not fond of the Chicken ala King but with enough hot sauce, it was ok. The "Omelets" were not edible to me, nor anyone I served with. That was a "Meal Refused by Ethiopians". Anything BBQ was fantastic. Beef Stew and all the rest were good enough.
I really like all your reviews, but this one was great because of the bonus "Boss" footage! She's such a cutie pie! :-) ..... and I have to get one of those "Rock or Something" props. Keep those reviews coming!
I forgot this video of pure wholesomeness existed, til I was going through some old Steve videos and I was like "who's' Kiwi dude?" *visits Kiwi Dude's YT* "OH this is the bloke with the lil kid that demolished a beef brisket mre!"
I tryed menu 20 Spaghetti with beef and meat sauce!!!! It wasnt bad. LOVED THE MULTI GRAIN WHEAT BREAD!!!! Put my cheese spread on that and ate it. Pretzel sticks were good to. I got skittles in my pack. Tropical punch beverage was on point to!!! The Entrée was a step or 2 above Chef Boardee. Was not bad at all. I put the pepper seasoning in it to kick it up a notch and MAN THAT WAS HOT!!! But it was good!!! And its gone lol!!!! Also this was my first ever MRE!!!! I am hooked now!!!!
heidi henning They were great. I come across many cherry flavoured components in U.S. MREs and I'm starting to develop a real taste for them. We had cherry Coke for a while here, but it never really took on, I miss it.
I discovered your channel about 3 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it! Your calm but emotional tone (hard to describe, but you make it so much better than the 'ordinary' reviewer on youtube) and the good quality of the videos have made me interested in MREs! :) I adore your boss, and the way you as a father integrate your daughter into your hobby(ies, if I think of the drone project)! You mentioned the wrinkled accesory bag. Can it be that it got warped while the double bag around all the contents was sealed? Maybe this clear plastic melted a bit, while the tan bags withstood the heat? Just my 2ct. Keep on posting & all the best from Germany!
Grollender Donner Cheers, and welcome to the channel! Crystal and I have a lot of fun doing these videos. I hope she looks back on them with fond memories. As for the accessory pack, hard to say exactly what happened, but it's great coming across anomalies in rations - I think much in the same way as people go crazy for postage stamp imperfections ;-)
+iTheGeek You can only not chose them in basic, when you go to the field in the real Army and there's a box of MREs, you can get whatever one you want. Someone higher ranking than you will probably be like "nobody touch a certain one", but yea we play by big boy rules.
You shouldn't feed US MREs to a child. This stuff is loaded with preservatives, salt and even trans-fats. These rations are intended to be consumed by healthy, young males who are outdoors engaging in strenuous physical activity, and only consumed for a limited period of time. Most of the time troops are fed hot food prepared in field kitchens.
Your videos are so fun to watch! I appreciate you making them. I'm curious to know, what country do you live in? I'm trying to figure out what accent that is :)
Awww your little gal is a cutie. I started watching these MRE tastings b/c of Emmy Eats and they're fun to watch for some reason?? And I kind of want to eat one. But your kid makes it even more fun to watch. She's precious!
Haha. Yeah I bet they would too. Twizzlers. Oatmeal cookie and crackers with cheesespread! Omg best meal ever. Don't forget the appetizing looking brisket! Yummy!!!
Where do you get your MREs, after Hurricane Matthew hit Florida the National Gaurd came and gave everyone in the city of Palm Coast only 5 boxes of MREs each and I'm almost out. Yeah, I just eat them for fun!
Hahahaha i loved that little "rock or something" you had there lol. but excellent video nonetheless, you've kindled my new interest of eating MREs lol +1 sub (Y)
Always loved going to the museum in NYC, they'd sell that freeze dried ice cream in the gift shop and I was damn militant about getting one. Loved those things.
Do you eat the all of the MRE or just throw it away? Please reply! I love your channel and can you do more United States MRE videos instead of other countries MRE's. ( No offense to other countries.) I subbed:)
Loved the rock or something, and also your daughter is very cute :) Just out of curiosity was that astronaut ice cream cold and stored in a freezer or was it just given the appearance of being cold to make it feel authentic for astronauts? Love the videos!
Preckington Thank you. The Ice Cream has been sitting in our cupboard for a few months at room temperature. It's an interesting chalky texture, and almost (in my opinion) better than the real thing.
Awesome, that sounds very interesting. I've watched many video's about astronaut food and how it's eaten etc, and it's always to see how they have to deal with certain food in a Zero-G environment. I was thinking about it and maybe the slits in the packaging were maybe so they could grab pieces without the rest floating away? Or maybe it's as you said. Thank you for replying :)
Preckington I also find the thought and science behind special foods interesting too. It's great doing these reviews to be able to fold a little learning into the experience with Crystal as we're finishing the rations off camera ;-)
Haha, thank you for the replies and thank you for these videos, I've never tried an MRE of any kind before, so watching these videos are very interesting. Wish you and your daughter the very best, can't wait for the next video :)
always been a fan of astronaut icecrem the way it just melts in your mouth is awesome... ever since i was a little kid Ive had a bit of a fascination with dehydrated foods... taking somehting dry adding water and haivng it become what its meant to be is somewhat magical heheh...
Barbecue is a real staple here in America. Theres Texas Barbecue, California Barbecue, Carolina Barbecue, and all other different types of Barbecue! If you ever come to the states, be sure to try out the Barbecue. It will change your life.
Sean Diment I've heard and seen the effort and preparation that goes into some the U.S. BBQs and it looks mouth-watering! We have BBQ's a lot downunder, but they're usually a much simpler affair.
All these videos that I've watched of yours, every time you make the grade drink, I think to myself "I've never in my life seen a grape flavored anything with such a blue hue to it."
mumzly1 It does beg the question, in this day and age of colour-free powdered drinks - why risk massive stains to uniforms and embarrassing purple/blue/red lips and tongues?
Wow.......I just realized young new reviewer Alex Jackson just made a review of Menu 7 Brisket Entree packaged in 2011. Also made by Ameriqual. But it is very different. No mashed taters and the beef in his slightly older MRE looked much more minced up. I like your sightly newer version. Yours has nice chunks of meat in the entree and the mash compliments it well. I wonder if the Butter Buds are made from Palm Kernel Oil like the fake butter is in movie theatres?
Kris Mantjika Hey Kris, it's a little hard finding genuine MREs for sale in N.Z. They do appear from time-to-time on TradeMe, but usually sit around the $25+ shipping mark. Your best bet is to look for deals on whole cases on eBay.
Man your lucky! Ive been wanting the beef brisket one for a while and havnt found.hopefully someday ill be able to geat one.anyways great video as always!
scott hayes It was such an innocent, unassuming MRE sitting up in the cupboard, and then 'BAM!' it blew me away with the taste. I hope you manage to find one, well worth it.
You daughter is very cute dude - I'm going hiking with my 2 this weekend packing Menu7 too. Looks like I'm gonna have a fight on my hands getting this one. Well wishes from the UK man. Great video !!
Eating this exact same MRE right now as I watch this one. Mine was packed by Sopacko instead of Ameriqual, though. Only difference between the contents of yours and mine (Mine has a date code of 2095, very close to yours)...Mine has "Chocolettos" instead of Twizzlers as the candy, and a toffee crunch cookie instead of the oatmeal one that you got. Other than that, it was exactly identical.
decided to open one of these today that I got from my grandpa since I was curious and did a google search to see if it was even edible and it lead me here. I know they last like 5-10 years depending on storage but so far ive only taken a bite of the oatmeal cookie. cant decide if its edible or not from that.
Love your videos, thanks for giving me a bit of insight into what to expect when I get into trying some of these various different MRE's, thanks! ps "Twizzlers" is like the brand name, "Nibs" is the name of that item. If one were to say: pass me the twizzlers, you would be wanting a pack of the longer more recognisable "normal" black or red licorice, or: pass me the nibs, which would be those little guys there. :D Think: Ford (brand) Ranger (type/model/item) Cheers!
After a long hike and setting up camp shelter/fire/etc This would be my favourite mre so far. (just maybe I would switch out the frh with the Japanese one )
discgolfer78 Thanks. When Crystal turns 18, her younger sisters will be 15 & 13. I think I might take a bunch of MREs and sit those years out in a bunker somewhere ;-)
Not sure how that MRE didn't have coffee. Luckily I always had some packets of coffee with me. Brisket had been a favorite for several years. There was also a BBQ Beef that was very popular with us. Our cookie looked like a brick and cracker we used to reinforce our kevlar helmets.
I'm not sure how I ended up here, but I have been watching these MRE reviews all day long. It has inspired me to go down to the basement and grab some of my MREs and try them out. They need to be rotated anyway. So now I'm sitting in my house eating MREs and watching MRE reviews, lol.
+cougarhunter33 Lol same
(has no mre) ;
+Pepe Sp00ky Same
+The Kyuubi's Soul If you're in the US, Amazon if your friend. just received this menu today along with the Asian Beef Strips.
legends!
i love how the Boss says "YUMMY" the instant that she bites down on the food. speediest taste buds on UA-cam!
another great video sir, well done
donaldjasoncrunk Thank you. She very much 'eats with her nose', so if it smells appealing she pretty much demolishes whatever it is.
The "Rock or Something" made me giggle like a school girl
ExHilEr8 i guess youre new here
You watch too much anime.
I think it can be effectively said that the best MREs/retort food have to be stews and BBQ/slow-roasted items. It complements the packing style VERY well...
"There ain't nuthin' natural about this stuff." I barked out a laugh before I could catch myself!
The Boss is the youngest person I've seen trying an MRE. She's adorable btw! I love how she says "yummy" just as she puts the food in her mouth 😂
I absolutely love these videos. They're just what I need to relax after a long day. :)
Best looking MRE cheese spread ever.
It hurts me when you said, "Twizzlers? The heck are these?" I am sorry, but it really does.
Hahahaha. Fantastic video.

gschultz9 Hey G, absolutely understand, I do the same. Can't wait to see what you think of it! :-)
gschultz9 just got finished eating one, it’s great mine came with tootsie rolls
Great Review!!!! Bet that MRE felt like going "old school" now eh?
Love your videos. Pretty fun for me coming from a US military family. My Dad always brought rations and MRR's home for us to check out.
I like Kiwi Dude, He inspired me to buy 10 boxes of MRE's.
Yeehaa! That's a real MRE-fest.
Kiwi Dude
and now i have to wait for them to ship to my house.....
+Alphacid tell me if they were good. I want to buy some too. 😂
Captain Mitchell My friend has some, I tried a couple, The maple sausage one is GREAT!
Ok then. 👍✌
I love how you lean it on your Rock or Something. I have always found that illustration on the heating directions to be amusing.
You do the best US MRE reviews! I'm from Texas and am doing my survival ration ordering based on your videos. Many thanks!
Thanks. Great to hear you're enjoying them :-)
Awwh, your daughter is super cute! Thanks for all your videos!
The boss is so cute. I think she enjoyed the mre!
Stanley Sprow Thank you. We both really liked this one and finished it all.
The boss is really growing up Kiwi Dude. Keep her straight down there man. Gonna have to find me a MRE with Brisket in it.
The Boss is so adorable. She sure is not a picky eater. You're so lucky to have her. New subscriber. Thanks for a wonderful video.
I always wonder What is MRE, But Thanks to Kiwi Dude, He taught me about all the MRE food. Thanks!
G'Day Kiwi all the way from a small farm town in Ontario Canada! Always great to see your videos
Angus Malcolm G'Day to you too. Glad you're enjoying the videos!
This was my All-time favorite menu... It had a lot in it and I loved mixing the mashed potatoes and the brisket together to make a delicious main dish!
According to the other videos I've watched, you were suppose to add water to the butter buds which turns it into a liquidy butter.
Do you add water or just heat it up asking because I have this one
I am actually very impressed with this channel, as I said with my last comment, replies to comments constantly, and lots of uploads, especially as every upload costs you money to do. Props!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. It's great to be able to interact with everyone through the comments.
your videos are awesome, especially at the end where you have your kid try it so some of us wonder if they are kid friendly :)
I've seen my friends fight over this MRE. The absolute BEST, imo! Great vid!
Jack Daniels Cheers! It's certainly one of my favourites too.
"Rock or Something"--LOLOL!!!
Astronaut ice cream brings back memories of school trips to either the Tech Museum or California Academy of Science. Great video! :)
1weirdgirl Thanks. Great to hear it brought back some fond memories. We had this sitting in the cupboard for months, so it was great to finally break it out.

Everyone saying that US MREs are horrible, sometimes even MREs in general, obviously have never tried one or tasted a bad one.
+Dylan Palmer I'm a big fan of U.S. MRE's. I've only had a couple that I can say I'm not fond of (Pork Sausage with Gravy & Vege Omelette).
+Kiwi Dude The MRE's are actually very tasty from the US. Sadly i'm confined to crappy Russian ones.

I always think of the Twizzlers commercial when I was young: It was a pair of lips exclaiming, "Makes mouths happy!" Glad you enjoyed them. (:
heidi henning They were great. I come across many cherry flavoured components in U.S. MREs and I'm starting to develop a real taste for them. We had cherry Coke for a while here, but it never really took on, I miss it.

I adore your boss, and the way you as a father integrate your daughter into your hobby(ies, if I think of the drone project)!
I eat this one, for weeks at a time, if this one isn't there the new beef taco, or spaghetti is my second go to.
+iTheGeek You can only not chose them in basic, when you go to the field in the real Army and there's a box of MREs, you can get whatever one you want. Someone higher ranking than you will probably be like "nobody touch a certain one", but yea we play by big boy rules.
Just finished up watching your UK Day feeding pack and now lucky us another review :D For sure going to enjoy this one too :)
galliman123 I've tried to be a busy lad lately. Stealing every opportunity ;-)
You got lucky with this one. I had one from 2011 and the menu was completely different. Great vid btw!
Lime Guy117 Thank you. This one exceeded expectations by a good margin. I'd happily have it again.
Dude, your daughter is so cute :)) D'ye want sum ice cream?.. yes?!....=))) Good review. Keep it up man.
New Zealand.
Awww your little gal is a cutie. I started watching these MRE tastings b/c of Emmy Eats and they're fun to watch for some reason?? And I kind of want to eat one. But your kid makes it even more fun to watch. She's precious!
Thanks. Glad you're enjoying the videos. I'm a big Emmy fan too.
i don't know if i love your reviews more or your daughter's expression more, she's lovely :D i love the way she says "yummy" haha~
ingenu3inked Thank you. She very much looks forward to our video days!
i cheered with kiwi with a cup of water when he said cheers..i am now cleaning water off my desk screens fine
Heheh, the return of the rock or something always makes me smile
I always enjoy plucking him from the corner of my kitchen bench. It's like calling him up for duty.
Why do I love these so much
i bet the soldiers would go crazy for this one

+1 sub (Y)
Johnny10k4evr Hi there, and welcome to the channel!
Do u think it's possible putting them both in the bag is squeezing the heater together and not allowing for water to get to it?
Rob ok Definitely possible :-)
Great video keep up the good work broski can't wait for you to hit a million subscribers
Teondre Cooper Cheers!
Always loved going to the museum in NYC, they'd sell that freeze dried ice cream in the gift shop and I was damn militant about getting one. Loved those things.
Moondogg22 I'm surprised freeze dried ice cream isn't more mainstream as a snack. Too good!
Yea this is a good one. I bought a case and have eaten Menu 10 and 7. I am excited to try more. Eating 3 more this weekend on a camping trip!
Max Starmer Nice! Hope you have a great time.
The Boss really DUG into the food this time XD
Naruto Uzamaki She sure did!
here because Steve1989mreinfo recommended your channel. so far I like it.
Do you eat the all of the MRE or just throw it away? Please reply! I love your channel and can you do more United States MRE videos instead of other countries MRE's. ( No offense to other countries.) I subbed:)
Welcome to the channel. We generally finish it all :-)
Thanks for your reply! :)
I Love your videos. I have some brisket coming tomorrow.
Lol nice rock or something
Jordan Havelal Cheers ;-)
Anyone here for 2018? This was the MRE I had in MCJROTC going on camp Pendleton and Oh my God this MRE is good
The smaller drink pouch btw is actually crystal light singles, they are meant for a bottle of water exactly in the US.
David Folsom Thanks.
Beef Brisket is on of the best Tasty MRE.....Astronaut Icecream is Awesome!....Nice VIDEO!
drecksheep Thank you. It was a really enjoyable meal, from the start to the freeze-dried ice cream finish!
Great MRE review, pal! Little girl is adorable! 😊😊
Loved the rock or something, and also your daughter is very cute :) Just out of curiosity was that astronaut ice cream cold and stored in a freezer or was it just given the appearance of being cold to make it feel authentic for astronauts? Love the videos!

Preckington Thank you. I recommend giving them a go, but be warned - they are habit forming ;-)
always been a fan of astronaut icecrem the way it just melts in your mouth is awesome... ever since i was a little kid Ive had a bit of a fascination with dehydrated foods... taking somehting dry adding water and haivng it become what its meant to be is somewhat magical heheh...
RobRuckus65 I'm with you there, it still seems a little voodoo :-)
That little girl is so cute.
Love your "rock or something ". It's nice
I actually have this MRE, which I've been saving just in case. Glad to hear what I'd be getting into if I ever broke it open

"Can Daddy try some?" "Sure, anything but chocolate!"
This was my favorite when I got out of the Marine Corps in 2014

Just got this from amazon i know I'm super late! But I'm super excited to try
Twizzlers are old school. They have the straw licorice and the little pieces called "Nibs"...really good
Twisters are american flavored licorice candies :) they usually are strawberry or cherry
The cuts in the ice cream pack were made so astronauts could eat it and it wouldn't floataway :))the icecream sandwich rocks!
delana phelps Lol.. Could happily eat a big bowl of that stuff. Really nice as a snack.
That looked pretty tasty. I always get a laugh when I see the scorch mark on the cutting board.
Dan Hayami Thanks Dan, it tasted as good as it looked. The cutting board reminds me daily to RTFM on things ;-)
Hey Kiwidude, where do you get your MRE's? I'm in NZ too, any places you recommend?
Kris Mantjika Hey Kris, it's a little hard finding genuine MREs for sale in N.Z. They do appear from time-to-time on TradeMe, but usually sit around the $25+ shipping mark. Your best bet is to look for deals on whole cases on eBay.
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out
The Boss has good taste... Absolutely adorable.
nothing to do with good taste, that little brat says everything is yummy, I seriously never seen her complain about any of those
just got one from 07, frign pumped!
Every so often I get flashbacks of those vintage MREs and it makes me wanna gag xD
Regina Phalange Lol... The smell is still firmly in my mind. I've got another vintage MRE to review too.
You daughter is very cute dude - I'm going hiking with my 2 this weekend packing Menu7 too. Looks like I'm gonna have a fight on my hands getting this one. Well wishes from the UK man. Great video !!
st3vieuk Thanks. Hope you have a great time. Good choice on the menu too ;-)
Awesome video and I really want to try that mre it looks really good
You got my grandson and I to explore the world of MRES , he's 6 years old.
Other than that, it was exactly identical.
indyracingnut Nice! The best way to watch these vids is while munching an MRE too, so well done there :-)
decided to open one of these today that I got from my grandpa since I was curious and did a google search to see if it was even edible and it lead me here. I know they last like 5-10 years depending on storage but so far ive only taken a bite of the oatmeal cookie. cant decide if its edible or not from that.
Nice video dude. It's pretty funny how the twizzlers have just as much calories as the entree
Ranier Hoang Cheers. Those Twizzlers sure do punch above their weight in the calorie count.
Glad you liked it lol, love from the states
arcing Cheers!
Greenwretch Thanks for the info!
After a long hike and setting up camp
shelter/fire/etc
This would be my favourite mre so far.
(just maybe I would switch out the frh with the Japanese one )
That cheese spread looks godlike O.o
me want.
Hansel Åström It was about as perfect as they come. Occasionally they're separated, or very dry, but this one ticked all the boxes.
I love seeing crystal at the end of the video
so cute her outfit seems as this menu was one of her favorites too. as well as one of your favorites. have a great day from down here in Texas
discgolfer78 Thanks. She loves that uniform. Greetings from New Zealand!
got two daughters myself, raising girls in the world today is a tough business. Enjoy your MRE vids
discgolfer78 Thanks. When Crystal turns 18, her younger sisters will be 15 & 13. I think I might take a bunch of MREs and sit those years out in a bunker somewhere ;-)
ahhahaa beautiful man, yea my oldest is 13 whoooo this stuff is getting difficult, I need a bunker too that man me laugh so hard..... have a great day
discgolfer78 You too mate ;-)
New subscriber my friend!
Welcome to the channel!
+Kiwi Dude Thank you Sir.
I have the exact same one arriving soon...... probably next week:)
Not sure how that MRE didn't have coffee. Luckily I always had some packets of coffee with me. Brisket had been a favorite for several years. There was also a BBQ Beef that was very popular with us. Our cookie looked like a brick and cracker we used to reinforce our kevlar helmets.
