I’m on a cross country road trip. I started in Florida and I’m heading to California with my final destination being L.A. I have a total of 35 stops planned and 35 of them being national parks. Stone Mountain Campground was my first stop and it happened by accident. After driving for 10 hours I needed a place to stop between Fort Lauderdale and Vogel State Park and Stone Mountain had spots available. It turned out to be a great first place to stop.
The campground is beautiful and very clean and there are lots of activities to do and there are grocery stores and restaurants nearby.
I stayed in Trail O campsite number 397. My campsite had water and electricity but other sites have full hookups including cable.
The campground has wifi and they RV sites with full hookups like electricity, water, cable, sewage, and sites with only electric and water which is where I stayed. They also have tent only sites and they have Yurt rentals.
    Wifi? Yes
    Pets? Yes
    Full Hookup? Yes
    Tent only sites? Yes
I was here for 4 nights and stayed in blue site 397 on Trail O
Here’s what I loved about the campground. It’s beautiful and it’s clean, clean clean,
The grounds, bathrooms, showers and laundry room where very clean. Every-timecam I walked into the bathroom it appeared as if someone had just cleaned them and the washer was literally sparkling.
There are plenty of activities like kayak and SUP rentals, there’s also hiking trails. I hiked up to Stone Mountain to watch the sunset and that was the highlight of my stay ( other than clean bathrooms.) If you want to walk from the campground it’s an 8mile round trip. There is however a parking lot across the way from the walkup trail and that hike is only a mile up. If you don’t want to hike you can take the cable cart to the top of the mountain.
There are restaurants inside the park as well and they have a free laser show that might be great for families, the laser show was not my thing.
If you’re on their website trying to decide where to stay i’ll give you a brief overview.
Tent only sites: I walked by and they were all great, they all had a lake view.
Blue Sites: These are for RV’s of all sizes and they have back-in as well as pull through sites. These have water, electricity and wifi. They are the furthest from the entrance/ pool area so they’re more quiet and peaceful. Tail O has many sites with a lake view.
Some of my favorite spots: 389,391,414,415,416 ( all back-in)
Red Sites: For Rv’s of all sizes with pull-through and back-in sites. These have full hookups.
Trail M site 341, 340 are some of the best ones if you want a view of Stone Mountain and the Lake.
Lime Green Sites: For Rv’s of all sizes with pull-through and back-in sites. These have full hookups.
Purple Sites: These are for RV’s of all sizes and they have back-in as well as pull through sites. These have a wooden decks, gas grill with propane included, full hookups. Close to the entrance and close to the pool, volleyball courts, playground and campground store. These and the orange sites would be my last pick because they are the busiest. I prefer to be as isolated as possible.
Orange Sites: : These are for RV’s of all sizes and they have back-in as well as pull through sites.

By chance did you cover the Yellow loop? I didn't see it. I'm looking for site 82 to see that. Thanks.

It was fun to wander the park with y'all. My Boy Scout Troop hiked up Stone Mountain back in the mid 1970s. I remember the "fully embroidered" patch we received after the climb. Very cool for an 11 year old! Question, in the evenings was it ever noisy? I see many newer (and larger) RVs have external television sets. Apart from going camping with multiple television sets, did the noise ever bother neighboring campsites?

Hi David! During our stay, our section was very peaceful and quiet. Further from us, in sections where they have spots with Class A's we did see a few campers that had an outdoor patio and TV's but when I passed by at night, I couldn't hear their TV sets. Stone Mountain does not permit alcohol and in my experience, when people are drinking that's when they are most likely to be loud.

Love the view on the blue sites but people need to beware of the incline when turning into it, it’s extremely steep.

If you don't have an RV can you still camp at those sites? Also, do the primitive sites have water or electricity? Looking into camping with my family. We are first timers.

Hi! I'm not sure if they'll allow you to camp at the RV sites but some of the yellow sites are for pop-ups and tents, those sites have water and electric hookups. The primitive sites don't have amenities. When are you planning on going? You'll have a lot of fun, let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help.

Have a great time, if you have the chance I recommend hiking to the top of Stone Mountain to watch the sunset. The hike is 1mile to the top however, if you rather not hike you can take the cable car.

I'm seeing "Swimming not allowed".. Is there any swimming area that is not a pool at this campground?

    • @BetsyKarr
      @BetsyKarr  4 роки тому +1

Although there’s no swimming in the lake, you can rent paddle boards and kayaks at the REI boat dock. No swimming but it’s really nice being on the water.

Also do you get to choose which spot you want or do they assign you ones that are only available?

When we arrived, we told the admin what we needed. We didn't have reservations, this was a last-minute stop. The had several spots available, if you show up and tell them where you'd like to stay, if available, I'm sure they will let you take any spot you want

Do you like BBQ? Have you been to Tipsy Pig's BBQ near Stone mountain? It's unassuming but their bbq was delicious! I went everyday while there >_

@@BetsyKarr I do like BBQ! Will have to check that out the next time I am in town. Vogel is great! We usually go to Blood Mountain while we are in that area but we have hiked the Bear Hair Trail and camped out there a few times. There is a ton of videos on my channel that might interest you. Would love to hear your feedback! Cheers

We went there. did not like it. Almost fell over Big Roots from Oak Trees. Also a little trashy. Also the village was more of a ghetto than what it used to be. Sorry... Its my opinion.
