Excellent, beautifully produced and intelligently paced review, with luscious photos. Exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you. And you mentioned the gorgeous optics of the Sigma 85mm. That is a killer piece of glass. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for your review. UA-camr Josh Cameron also gave this lens high praise, along with a few others. I needed a zoom with a constant f2.8 and thought I’d have to pay more for a good one, but the reviews on this are so good I decided to save my money and get this one instead of a more expensive zoom. I don’t need 24mm on the low end and I don’t need it to be weather sealed, so it’s just fine. I have the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 for wide angles, and paired with this 28-70 that’s about all I need for my video kit.
I've just bought the L-mount version. I don't know if I've just lucked out with my copy but I'm a bit bewildered by some of the lukewarm reviews of the lens's optics. I'd got the Lumix S Pro 16-35/4, 50/1.4 and Sigma Art 28/1.4 to hand for a pixel peeping shootout and my verdict is it's staggering! The worst of it is the heavy vignetting at the wide end, not helped by a subpar lens profile in Lightroom, but in the central areas of the frame it's sharper than the 28/1.4 and certainly no worse than the 16-35. The 50/1.4 is better, as you'd expect, especially in the corners, but the difference isn't staggering. I don't know. Perhaps a bad batch of lenses went out or I just got lucky.
Thanks for the review! Im just considering my options for a first E-mount lens for my first full frame camera. I been using an MC-11 adapter for my Sigma 18-35 lens so far. Now this Sigma 28-70mm lens vs the Tamron G2 and with all the mixed reviews of the Sigma e-mount version its a difficult decision, but it's price is slightly less so I'm leaning towards it. Guess I will update with my thoughts after I get it..
For emount just get the tamron for better optics and real weather sealing. The sigma has features for Lumix cameras like electronic parfocal, barrel & pincushion distortion correction, which aren't present in the sony versions so you're not getting any benefit from the sigma

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. I use this Sigma 28-70 & my Sony 20mm F1.8 about 90% of the time and they have been foolproof. Cheers.
Thanks for the review!

@@zaymax_7 I bought the Sigma 28-70 f2.8. It was less than the Tamron and now I plan to get the 16-28 f2.8 so I am with Sigma for now...
Thanks for sharing mate
Thanks good explanation.. practicality is what i’m looking for
