    So glad you did this Rich. I remember being a big fight fan in 7th grade (1981) and I SKIPPED a fall dance at my middle school to stay home and watch Snipes vs Holmes in Prime Time on ABC. The 7th round knockdown was a bolt of lightening and SO exciting. Holmes of course had Superman's recuperative powers, and came back to win....but I love this era of boxing. Thank you.

      I was in the 8th grade(1981) watching that fight on ABC. I think Homes would've still won but the ref did stop that fight too soon. If the ref doesn't stop that fight and it went 15, Snipes probably would have won. But that brawl after the fight near Howard Cosell was insane/hilarious.

    I remember Renaldo. I always felt had Renaldo trained off some of that muscle mass he had. He could have been a better fighter. All he needed was a milli-second more speed and it could have been the difference he needed. But I liked him. Always put on a great show. I hope he's found happiness.

    Great job Rich on Renaldo "Mr." Snipes. I bet Snipes lied about his age as currently most of the sources say Snipes was born in 1956 wasn't true, but he was born in 1953 that you stated and they should change his birth year. Anyways, Snipes was one of the great talented heavyweights in the 1980s while he was one of the lost generations and I believed his best win was against future WBC Heavyweight Champion Trevor Berbick. Snipes could box and brawl with his big right hand. Keep it up Rich.

      😂😂😂 No way he beats Usyk, Fury or even Wilder. Not taking anything away from Snipes, but your chatting complete bs. Just because they're from 30 or 40 years ago doesnt make them better ffs 😂. Holmes is a diffrent discussion because he was elite, as where many heavyweights in the past. But lets not pretend that every fringe contender in the last 100 years would easily beat the current crop. Ridiculous.

    • @Duel1982
      @Duel1982 Рік тому +4

      @@TFB97 Usyk who barely beat Chisora and Breidis? Fury who lost to JOHN MCDERMOTT, was losing to Steve Cunningham and taking a beating..and went life and death with Otto Wallin? Wilder who got dropped by Harold Sconiers and was getting schooled by Artur Szpilka/ had a competitive fight with Stiverne? All the guys I just named were small heavyweights/cruiserweights who weren't as good as snipes and either beat the champs and got robbed or came close too or LMAO 🤣. It kills me when people prop up today's Era. Fury is fighting an MMA fighter. Usyk is fighting a guy that got dropped 3 times by a cruiserweight in his last fight and Wilder still can't throw a punch without telegraphing it.

    • @TFB97
      @TFB97 Рік тому +2

      My eyes dont lie to me i know what I see. Snipes lost regularly to journeyman, how on earth you can say he's better than Usyk is actually embarrassing 😅. Im not saying Fury is the best ever obviously not, I think he's a cherry picker who avoids the other top contenders, but don't try telling me he isn't better than Snipes. Usyk would outbox Snipes comfortably too.
      If you want to bring up flaws in earlier heavyweights careers, how about Ali? Who was floored multiple times by small heavyweights in Cooper and Doug Jones who were also fringe contenders. All in his younger days and ended up being the 🐐. Or how about Sonny Liston who lost to a journeyman in his first 15 fights and got his jaw broke. Are you saying he's not legit because of that. Or Joe Louis getting knocked out by an inactive, past his best Max Schmeling. Or Jack Johnson being knocked out by a light heavyweight before he was champ? I can go on all day. Tell me one heavyweight throughout history who went his whole career, without nearly losing a fight or getting a lucky decision.
      Im not disrespecting the past, a lot of the heavyweights in the past like Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney, Louis, Marciano (would be a cruiser today), Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield and Lennox would all be undisputed champions or top contenders today. But you need to stop being an old hater and hating on anything new. You are the type of person to moan about how bad everything is today and then wonder why Boxing is losing fans. Smh

    Rich I have to think if Snipes hit Holmes with that right hand today the fight would have been waved off. Holmes was out on his feet so early in the round but still managed to make it 😮. Hall of fame referee Rudy Ortega worked my very first pro bout. 🙏🥊😊

    I never did care for Snipes, he had a giant chip on his shoulder. Larry Holmes also had a giant chip on his shoulder, but Larry could back his up. Snipes win over Coetzee in 1981 was the worst I had ever seen, fast-forward 42 years later & it's still the worst decision ever. I still have South African newspaper clippings on reports of the fight, they called the ref " weak " I agree & I never trusted that ref again. The last 2 minutes on his life doesn't surprise me at all.

      As the head of their Olympic committee Rudolph Opperman once danced around here, perhaps there shouldn’t be a benefit of the doubt for apartheid organizations, or ones who at least operate under the beliefs that such concerns are overblown:

    My introduction to Renaldo Snipes came when I was working as a security guard at a medical building next door to his apartment building where he used to live in Yonkers, N.Y. He used to park illegally on the property where I worked until one day my boss demanded I put parking stickers on each window of his car. I tried explaining to my boss who he was but hat didn't deter him. For the next couple of hours I was as nervous as shit peering out the lobby window waiting to see his reaction to the stickers plastered all over his vehicle. Once he came down he made a beehive to the lobby of the building I worked with this scowl on his face looking like he was going to tear my head off. Once he entered the lobby I was prepared for the worse. When he raised his voice demanding who put the stickers on his car I immediately blamed my boss while shivering as a leaf on a crisp fall day. He informed me to call my boss right at that moment and have him come down so that he could kick his ass. Lol. I got to know Renaldo for the next year that I worked there and I have nothing but respect for him. He was kind, respectful and even signed some autographs for a few employees of the building.
