I started sewing with a double needle in 93. Worked the best for sewing elastic on fitted baby diapers.

Don't be afraid to try this with a cheap machine! I have a $125 Singer Tradition (really NOT digital) and I use my twin needle for leotards. I wind a second bobbin and just leave it on the bobbin winder in the open position. I also don't thread the bobbin thread through the thread guide; it just goes straight to the right hand needle. If I go slowly, it works really well.
