I want to say that I love that you demonstrate on a very common/standard Singer machine so many people have today! Too many other demonstration videos use fancy computerized machines that have 8,000 options and do machine embroidery etc LOL. Thank you for making sewing accessible to the common folk:-)
more basic sewing question concerning twin-needle - where does the 2nd thread get attached, and how do you thread the machine if the machine with 2 threads? I've avoided even trying the twin needle as I could not find the answer for this before coming across all these wonderful sewing tutorials online!
I think it is important to note that the tension you are primarily adjusting the bobbin tension. On my bernina, this means tightening the screw on the bobbin case.
Thank you. I inherited bernina twins from my mothers collection of 1963! She never used them and neither have i ever used them. This video inspires me to go and try them.
Hello Julija, I thank you for such a wonderful video showing the various techniques. I will come back and watch this one again and again. I found it very interesting and helpful. And, I am bursting to give them ago again...I have tried to use twin needles in the past, but refining my skills is something I like to work on. Thank you.
I was intimidated by the twin needle, but with some practice, it's becoming a good friend! Thanks for your video. I see someone's comment about adjusting BOBBIN tension vs the top thread. Could you explain about that more--or if you have another video specifically on tension, please link it. Thanks so much!
I like using the wider twin needle for knits. It takes practice and each fabric is different. You do have to do a practice piece first. I did learn about using it for decorative stitches.
Had one come with my last sewing machine. Had no idea how to use it. My first sewing machine sewed forwards and backwards. Zig zag was just for the rich back then.
This is super helpful and wow! Such great techniques. I've always wanted to try a twin needle but it seemed so daunting. Only question I have that you didn't cover is how to thread twin needles? You need two threads, right? What if your machine only has one spool pin; where do you put the other thread spool? Thanks for your great content! I'm subscribing to your channel.
Great video as usual! I wish I lived there to go to your sewing classes.. Anyway, I'd like to see a flat seat adjustment, thanks a lot for all your lessons! Greetings from Italy 😊
Thanks for the video. It would have been helpful to see you adjusting the tension because until I read the comment below, I assumed it was the foot tension, not the bobbin tension that needed adjusting. Also, I'm surprised there is no link to Organ Needles. Do you have an affiliate link for them?
Great video, tho I think you are a masochist for liking the twin needle most 😂. It is the needle I'm always a bit scared will leave me with a birds nest of thread and skipped stitches tangled in the feed dogs. It always feels like however you set the tension is always a bit of a compromise between a relaxed stitch from the front vs getting pretty weak weaving of the bobbin thread between the stitches on the back. Still... it is definitely fun to play with, just practice a bit and expect frustrations. I found using double gutermanns top threead in the needles, even with a 100 jeans needle was pretty heavy going, and you definitely want to use thinner thread in the bobbin, which will then cause even more tension issues.
I’ll try to make a short video next week on how to thread twin needle, but essentially I put second thread in a dedicated holder and usually it works great🤗
What is the meaning of the different color "bridge" (the plastic that holds the two needles ) on the twin needle? I have seen blue, yellow and red but the package doesn't say anything. Would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!
when I make the seam with the twin needle, instead of increasing the tension on top, I slack the tension underneath so it does not make the bump on top
I have noticed that when I use a twin needle my stitches come out at the start and finish. Is it true you are not suppose to backstitch but tie the threads in a knot?
Glad you liked the video! I think I have an explanation on how to thread twin needle in my video about sewing knits - but I will keep in mind to make a short video how to do it, thank you for idea!🤗 Essentially, you thread sewing machine with both threads exactly like you would with 1 thread until the needle - then you split the threads and thread each needle separately🤗
What about the thread you should use or shouldn’t use, threading your machine and threading the needles themselves? I have 2 spool holders but I’ve never threaded my machine with 2 threads. Any warnings or tips?
I use standard sewing thread (I mainly use polyester all-purpose thread). I plan on making a short video on how to thread sewing machine with twin needle, I’ll share it here as well!
Hi! I'm new here. Just wanted to ask how to properly use twin needle with ribbed stretchy fabric? I have this dress that I want to shorten but can't really because of how I mess it up everytime I try. Please help me.
I'm 64 years old & have been sewing for over 50 of those years. 😊 I've used twin needles multiple times with no problems. ...Unil now. I'm needing to use a fairly wide (4.0) twin needle. I cannot for the life of me make it work. My dear husband even bought a new machine. The left needle either skips stitches or barely picks up at all. I've tried adjusting the tension, top & bottom, and it hasn't gotten any better. I bought new needles in case I had damaged the first one. I have tried it on both Brother & Singer machines. I have repositioned needles to the left & to the right. Is 4.0 too wide for home sewing machines? Can you offer me any advice or instructions? Anything would be greatly appreciated. 😢
Interesting!🤔 I mostly use 4.0 width Twin needles - that’s my favourite width for sewing elastic hems. It should not be a problem for a domestic sewing machine to handle such width, as the zigzag stitch is even wider than 4.0🤔 Which machines and needle brand you’re using? For reference, I sew using Singer Heavy Duty 4423 and Organ Needles Twin needles, they work great together.
I've tried it on my little Brother machine & the one my husband bought, a Singer SewMate 5400. I'm thinking we're going to take this one back & get a better one, maybe a Singer S5200. I've been using Schmetz & Singer brand needles. Maybe I'll try Organ needles. I use them with my industrial upholstery machine & I think they're really good needles. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to answer me!😊
@@nitagail77I saw a video from Coolirpa where she was talking about how using the incorrect type and/or size needle could make it skip stitches. Like not using a stretch or jersey/ballpoint needle for knits, or having too fine a ballpoint needle for that specific knit fabric. Might that help? I'm a beginner, so I'm just repeating what she said!
I would advise to check the machine manual if it can sew with twin needle - I only had such experience years ago with my first sewing machine and it turned out it cannot sew with twin needle🤦♀️

Oh I would NEVER have considered twin needle for decorative stitches!!! ❤
Very interesting.
I didn't know that decorative stitches could be used while sewing with a twin needle.

What an amazing video! I’m so glad I found it. Can’t wait to play with using twin needles.
This is the first time i watched a really good explanation on how to use the twin needle thank you

I have noted to make a short video in threading twin needle - I hope to have it posted shortly🤗
I use the short spindle that is used for bobbin winding
Absolutely awesome video … thank you so much 💖💖💖
This was quite helpful.Thank you for the information
I'm thinking twin needle work could be useful making quilts. Going to try it.
I did get the bobbin on how to use two needles
Great tips, thanks.

This is fascinating.
I would love to see you do projects making garments with these techniques.
Thank you so much
New subscriber!,
Fabulous!!! 💃
Can you please share the link to buy the twin needle for stitching jersey ( cover stich) with the round end ?
Great tips but yes how do you keep the second thread in place, it keeps popping out , and above the needle holder the two threads become tangled 🙂
I’ll try to make a short video next week on how to thread twin needle, but essentially I put second thread in a dedicated holder and usually it works great🤗
It is very useful
How can we insert the thread with the two needles? Do we have to put two spoons?
Thank Julija your videos very interesting, for attaching fold over elastic, would you recommend twin needle or zigzag or triple stitch ?
thanks
Can a twin needle work on any singer sewing machine?

I keep getting tunneling with my twin. What exactly are your machine settings? Do I loosen the bobbin?
Hi! Where can I get the pattern for your beautiful top? I love it!
It’s Burda Style dress, you can find pattern online as ‘Plumetis dress’🤗
I have noticed that when I use a twin needle my stitches come out at the start and finish. Is it true you are not suppose to backstitch but tie the threads in a knot?
Hi I wish u would show how to thread the sewing machine when using the twin needle.
I plan on making a short video on how to thread machine with twin needle, hopefully I can get this video ready soon🤗
Do you have to use 2 different thread for the twin needle (1🧵),or ( 2 🧵🧵) my machine only has 1 spool holder
2 threads🤗 My machine has a second spool holder that is put on only when second thread is needed
Good video. Do you have one where you explain how to thread the machine for twin needle sewing?

I have two machines and the threading is slightly different on each machine, so best to check out the Instruction book that came with your machine.
But Julie, is this needle compatible with all sewing machines? (particularly the Singer HD 4411)?
okay, it is! FANTASTIC!
Cannot use twin needle on left facing bobbin vintage machines, otherwise if machine has zig zag stitch you can use a twin needle.
What about the thread you should use or shouldn’t use, threading your machine and threading the needles themselves? I have 2 spool holders but I’ve never threaded my machine with 2 threads. Any warnings or tips?

Hi just started sewing what is a baste stitch please
Basting is just temporarily done to hold things together while you sew the final seam. By hand or machine and usually a long, quick stitch.
I'm new to sewing how do you thread a twin needle?
I’ll share a short video later this week🤗
Hi! I'm new here. Just wanted to ask how to properly use twin needle with ribbed stretchy fabric? I have this dress that I want to shorten but can't really because of how I mess it up everytime I try. Please help me.
Are you using Twin needle suitable for stretch fabrics?🤔 If threading is an issue, I have a short video on threading twin needle that might help🤗
@@Julija_Gobere thank you so much! I'll find that video hahaha
@@Julija_Gobere to my knowledge, I am using a twin needle for stretch fabric. 😅

I may have misunderstood but I think you said "wing needles" instead of "twin needles". Those are very different things in English.
I meant Twin needles🤗 I heard about wing needles, but I have never tried them
