    The insurance payout from the guy who totalled my Ranger came as I was watching this. I was hit in the side and rolled at 45 mph. Landed on the wheels still running and still managed to drag itself off the road with the rear axle/driveshaft and leaf springs broken. The driver's side was flattened and that side of the cab is now about an inch shorter. I walked away without so much as a bruise.
    They're amazing little trucks.

    Matt at his silliest. Thanks for the laughs. 🤣
    A. To get access to the fuel pump, he rips the bed half off the frame with a truck crane!
    B. To deal with a clogged fuel filter, he drills a hole through it to create a direct flow through it!
    C. And then the Dixie horn at the end. ermahgerd!
    In the past, I've always twitched when you nonchalantly tossed things around, or plopped them onto a bench or the concrete. It could be boxes containing parts, parts without boxes, or tools and equipment. You know. . . I think I can relax about that now. 😉
    Have a great day and keep on truckin'. 👍

    I owned a 1984 Ford Ranger pickup with Explorer package. It was black with red pin striping that had the word Explorer in the pinstriping. It was 4 wheel drive with a manual 5 speed and 2.8L engine. I originally bought it for a New England winter beater. That truck could climb trees and I used it to pull an 18 foot speed boat. People would joke about it sounding like a sewing machine but it had no trouble in snow or pulling the boat to the lakes up in the mountains of New Hampshire and Maine with that 5 speed. Loved that pickup. Oh the memories.

    I bought new, 1983 ford Ranger 4x4,, turned it in for a 92 supercab 4.6L and kept it for 24 years when I was forced to sell it,,, I loved that truck, hurt me to part with it, so I definitely know how you feel

  • @terryfromsouthcarolina4601
    @terryfromsouthcarolina4601 3 роки тому

    I still have 2 square body Rangers here. A 92 3.0 with over 300 thou on the clock an an 89 2.3 with at least 375 thou probably more. They both have their issues ( the 89 got t- boned by a 450 service truck that couldn't stop in one of our few snow storms) and the 92 has had the trans rebuilt, head gaskets later and a fuel pump. Both will start first tap of the key even though the 89 hasn't been started in a year or so. The 92 is one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. My 94 250 is in that mix too, worst breakdown ever was the factory water pump with 280 thou gave up 15 miles from home after a 350 mile trip. It is loved by the gas stations also having a 460 in it. Ford made some long lasting vehicles up to the mid 90's but lost their edge with the 4 door luxury truck craze.
    Brother you can't win them all. If you did we would think it was as suspicious as a Georgia election.
    Keep up the fine videos, as always looking forward to the next installment in the ongoing saga of Diesel Creek!
    Terry from South Carolina

    Drove the crap out of too. Made only two upgrades..buffed out the sun faded paint and put ralley/offroad tires on her. She weighed less than a VW bug. I would have to put about 150lbs of sand bags in the trunk for traction for snow driving.

    Had Three Rangers, got rid of them when they were either worn out or literally knocked out from under me. Had to be cut out of one cause a hot rod idiot hit his nitrous off the line on a city street and lost it, came over the centerline and wedged his pretty little camaro under my Ranger. Blew me om the passenger side, he was going so fast and spinning he ended up in a used car lot behind me. Damn near was an airborne Ranger. 2 fuel pumps. Low pressure in the tank. High pressure on frame rail past the fuel filter. With ignition on, push the shrader valve on the fuel rail and it should spray at 50 psi or so. Inertia switch in the passenger footwell is wired inline to cut power to the pumps and are always corroded, just cut and join the wires.

    At the 21:40 mark I realized what a fine unit this is. I mean Ford built them with a dump bed. Lol. I bet a solid unit like that could still haul a ton of gravel or so and tail gate onto your driveway. I also like how Ford thought of everything and they even drilled holes in the side of the the dump bed to allow rainwater to drain out.😂

    My first truck was a 92 ranger! Bought it new in 1991 after highschool for school. I guess I am much older than you. I recently bought a sweet 2003 with 40k miles on it that I have detailed well and its a nice summer ride. They didn't change much from 83-2011.

  • @shackman9566
    @shackman9566 3 роки тому

    Those were good little trucks. I had a 94 it never let me down but like you said gotta love Pennsylvania. Mechanically my truck was tip top but all the salt and calcium they use on our roads destroyed the frame. Mine was the 2.3 litre 4cyl it had 2 spark plugs per cylinder 2 coil packs factory headers hemi heads direct fuel injection. It got amazing fuel mileage. I have a 7 x12 drop gate trailer and I hauled more on the trailer behind that ranger than any full sized pickup I have ever owned. I don't know why Ford stopped building them. I think they were so popular they were cutting into F 150 sales. Have a great day Matt. Go Steelers.

Swapped out the injectors with the ones from the replaced engine and it fired right up.

    Rangers are some tough little trucks. I grew up in Hawaii and the salt air rusts vehicles fast. A friend had a Ranger about that same year and the right side A-pillar was about 90% rotted away to the point where he wouldn’t open the passenger door because apparently it might fall off. Anyone that rode in that truck had to get in the driver’s side and scoot past the steering wheel and stick shift. 😂 That truck was pretty rotted all over but it somehow held up for years bombing around the rough sugar cane and pineapple roads. I think it had the 2.9L also and that thing pulled out stuck half tons no problem. Maybe it was just geared better but it was way peppier than my Chevy with the non-Vortec 4.3L.
    Another friend had an ‘84ish Ranger that would consume oil almost as fast as gas. We would drive 25-30 minutes to go surf and would have to bring a fresh quart to make sure it got there and back. She sold that truck pretty quick but I saw it around town for years... hopefully at some point it got a set of gaskets 😂

    My first "new" car was a 1989 Bronco II with the 2.9 - I had over 200K on it before the clutch started slipping - except for oil leaks and a noisy lifter or two that 2.9 never gave me any trouble.

    Anything for $500 is a good deal. But those little Ford Rangers would take a pounding. I know a couple of folks who had one. My first vehicle in the summer of 1967 when I was 16 growing up in western PA was a 1957 Ford F100. Except for throwing a little blue smoke it was in pretty decent shape......when I bought it. I bought it for $245. Bought it to earn money over the summer to get a car. Beat the living crap out of it for three months. Hauled such heavy loads I bottomed out the springs more often that I didn't. But, I never put a penny into it other than gas and one oil change. Sold it at the end of summer for $250. Thought I was a genius. 😂 Loved Ford trucks ever since....but never had another truck.

    Just because the truck didn't work doesn't make you a failure. You succeeded in finding that it didn't work.

    There is a fuel pump cut off on the passenger side floorboard. Also there there is two fuel pumps. One in the tank and one on the frame.

    Sounds like the injectors are plugged up or seized up and not pulsing. At least she did run on either, should be able to provide some parts for the other ranger.

    Matt, remember Edison failed a bazillion times, before the light bulb would function..... So it's another step in the resurrection of a deadbeat motor :). You playin' the dixie on your horn, made you in my book my ultimate hero... Keep rocking, I thoroughly enjoy that 30 minutes working on a lil' truck with you!!
