      That's a very beautiful car but you were right your first instinct about pulling gas tank and draining it flushing out the line I don't know when you make this video but I'm thinking it's starting with the process of doing but yeah that would be my guess that you should have flushed those lines out and that gas tank that way it would have not messed up the idling

      Love those old buggy sprung Ford's, especially the 42, as they made so few of them. By the way, those lever-action shocks are Houdailes. They are not a friction shock but rather a valved, fluid filled shock. They can be adjusted for firmness on the body and by changing the viscosity of the fluid. On the downside, they are expensive to rebuild.

    • @jeromebreeding3302
      @jeromebreeding3302 3 роки тому +2

      @@Sleeperdude It would help a future owner of the car(maybe you?), to know what they're dealing with, for the cars shocks. Friction shocks can be easily fabricated, hydraulic precision engineered lever shocks, like Houdailes can not.

    1942 sounds indeed rare, WW2 was a time where you had to have connections and a really good reason to get so much as a new tire. TVA warehouse makes it seem like a former government car. And like so many others have said, having family is such a treasure. Keeping that going with your kids is so excellent. 👍

    That video is fantastic. I am 69 years old and I own a 1941 Ford which I am currently working on. I was hoping that yours had a flathead V8 in it, but a 6 is good. I have a slightly souped up rebuilt flathead V8 in mine. Love it! Your squeaky clutch sounds just like mine did before I put a new bushing in the clutch arm pivot. What I think is happening is the clutch arm is scraping on the floorboard hole because of a worn bushing and the spring is pulling it sideways. Check it out. I'm anxious to see future episodes on that one. I also think it's cool that your grandpa taught you so much and you still have him around. You are truly blessed.

      The flat head engines were very good at the time, but i would consider a more modern engine. Fords 289 v8 was an excellent engine, and the 300 L6 was another excellent engine. Parts are very cheap and still common enuff to get today. Best wishes with your project!

      @@blueduck9409 My original intention was to keep the original drive train, but my son bought me the rebuilt flat head. I know the newer drive trains are more reliable, but I love the sound of the flat head and I want to keep it close to original if I can. I'll let the next owner change it out if they want to. I realize this video has been made for a while. I always enjoy your videos but the best thing is seeing you and your son doing this & adding the rest of the family. I did a project with my son for his 1st car. We had a good relationship but in the end after 15 months we were not just buddies but best friends. To this day when we see each other he always talks about the car. A lot of late nights and weekends. I just wish there were a way to get this message across to parents. It doesn't have to be a car. THE IDEA IS SOME INVOLVED PROJECT WITH YOUR CHILDREN. It is that simple. Even when they were more grown we tried to have one rule - dinner one night a week as a family and dinner on Sunday. This rule had some breaks as you have no control over everything. My kids lived up to this 95 percent of the time generally inviting their friends to eat.

    I stopped the video early on, partly because I have to go out, and partly in wonder about how you are going to source parts, like the casings and all the rubber in the break systems etc., in a vehicle about 80 years old!
    I bet the grease nipples alone would number about a hundred! All the steering mechanisms, grease nipples on the rear springs, king pins, the works. And how would those wheel bearing look after all that time? Since it was protected from the elements, I guess rust won't be as much of a problem as on other cars you have brought back to life.

    As a girl from a family with family roots in middle Tennessee representing many counties just to name a few Dyer, Lauderdale and Shelby county but we are now living in FL I know family gatherings at thanksgiving in TN were and are special, I was supposed to get granddads step side 100 series ford or it may have been a older Chevy I don’t remember which grand dad let grandma sell it before I could get it. Since losing daddy, haven’t been able to make the trip to middle Tennessee watching and listening to you. Makes me feel like I’ve got a bit of my daddy he’s been gone since 2019 and so,e of his family back I miss their TN accents and drawls. I hope yall will keep this family heirloom as it’s a really special item in a car guy/girls life to get to keep and then honor their family members and their loved ones in memories that were created because of or in that vehicle

    What a car! Worth keeping as is, especially since it's so rare. I was amazed to see that trim that goes across the sides of the hood and in line with the door handles looks like the same design of the trim on my 1972 Ford pickup. Yours is steel or stainless while the 1972 version is anodized aluminum.

      @@Sleeperdude so amazing how you can look at a car decades apart in manufacture date but you see the designers reuse something on that newer vehicle.

    I could write a page on this video but I will cut it short. Your grandpa is precious! Take him for a ride, get him in more shows. My dad lived to be 96 years old, my mom hit 100. If you want to do something for them DON'T WAIT!! They go and that is it..................I had a 1952 Chevrolet with the ignition on/off switch. Get going in 2nd gear about 25-30 mph, gas it to make it accelerate then let off the gas and turn the key to off....wait about 5 seconds and turn the key back on. Trust me on this one!!! It should backfire SO LOUD you will break a seam laughing!!!

    Well I'll be. Helping a friend with a '41 that he aquired bout the same time. Previous owner had started hot rod style. Wished we had a got before, well uh, before he put a 350 in it. I think I'm going to be sick. But I'll be ok, they were smart enough to install 9"rear. I don't see how people could see out the back of these cars. Prior owner put in back up camera! What great original vehicle. Hope tha"Rock" got over missing the trip. Hey y'all have a nice day. 🦅🇺🇲🦅

    What a great car! Absolutely love it! A genuine 28k mile 1942 Ford like this must be almost unique. But I would have had to squirt some WD40 on that clutch pedal and linkage before setting off! :)

    My grandfathers were not "car guys" like yours but they had some interesting cars in their lifetime. My oldest grandfather was born in 1901 and lived through the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 and when horse and wagon were common. He owned a 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Super Sport Coupe that he bought used in 1965. It was white with black vinyl interior. He hardly drove it because he retired in 1966 and was a homebody. Unfortunately it was sold in the late 1980s so I never inherited it. His previous cars were a 1952 Ford and a 1933 Buick. My other grandfather was born in 1908 and his very first car as a young bachelor was a 1925 Dodge Coupe which is an impressive car if you have ever seen them. Then he bought a new 1935 Plymouth shortly after his marriage. Plymouths of the 1930s are quite rare now. Later he bought a new 1950 Dodge. Both of my grandpas lived into their 90s. Always cherish the time you spend with your grandparents.

    Nice to see that old Ford . The dash screams out pure Americana. I was 14 in 1965 , we had a 53 Ford PU with a little 230 v8 , had a starter button by the door on the dash , during a storm after opening a gate I slammed the door to shut and simultaneously hit the starter button and the door slammed one finger tip shut . When I pulled my finger out it looked like a cobra snake ‘s head ready to attack.

    You brought back so many memories. I have a 42 Dodge that I bought 25 years ago. The big difference was I had no clue what I was doing. I spent the entire summer trying to get it started not realizing I needed to put a little fuel in the carb instead of just relying on the fuel pump from the tank. I'm still enjoying it today.
