- Located in the county of Kent, just marginally outside the M25 (the circular motorway that contains London within), is the town of Sevenoaks.
The name 'Sevenoaks' is believed to have originated from the Saxon word 'Seouenaca', a name given circa 800 AD to a small chapel near seven oak trees in Knole Park in the southeast end of the town.
The settlement was formed around the junction of two main roads - one going to London and the other to Dartford on the Thames estuary. This made it a suitable location for a market, and thus it became a town in the mid 13th century. In 1432 Sevenoaks School opened, which is said to be the second oldest secular school in the UK, behind Oswestry School.
The oak trees in Knole Park, from which the town gets its name, have been replaced several times over the centuries. In 1902 seven oaks were planted in commemoration of the coronation of King Edward VII. In 1987 six of the seven trees were blown down in a hurricane (the Michael Fish "don't worry there isn't" hurricane). The surviving tree was named "King Oak", and seven additional trees were planted, then vandalised, then planted again. So technically Sevenoaks is eight oaks.

8:54 I found your videos by accident and recognises this Tavern The Oak it used to be called Auberge, I’m Brazilian I worked there as a chef around 2001, I couldn’t speak a word of English back then 😂 I was in love with the woman there…
No way, I worked in Auberge too! My friends Vanessa and Martin (chef)worked there. And I think I may remember the girl!
I'm Patrick, don't know if you remember me!
Thanks for bringing me beautiful tour ^^
Enjoyed a lot :)
Appreciate it, thanks!
I lived around Sevenoaks (Seal/Riverhead) in the 60's. Left in 1968, very sad. It all looks so different now the old bus station site has been developed. As you began your tour you were facing what used to be the Police Station I think.
Thanks for the tour.
I left Sevenoaks in 1965 and I think the Police Station was still at the lower end of the High Street near the junction with Seal Hollow Road. Sevenoaks was and will always be my hone town and I know that my health and age will not let me return. Still love the town - so many childhood memories,
Wonderful walking tour thank you for sharing
Lovely town walk. Thank you
Thanks mate!
Picture perfect. Love the gateway over the High St.
👋👋👋👋 Waving back at you to thank you for today's journey! 👋👋👋👋
Thanks bud!
Thank you!
I grew up in Otford and Sevenoaks in the 70’s, so, if possible, some old footage?
Love Sevenoaks Town and other parts of the district of Sevenoaks towns wich I also see you haven't filmed like in Swanley, + Westerham!
Would you also do the village-Chiddingstone sure you heard of it- as also done some rather well known filming stuff there!
The village was used as a setting in the 1985 Merchant Ivory film A Room with a View, in the scene where Lucy and Cecil take a walk after their engagement party. The High Street is seen from the end nearest to the Castle Inn.
Michael Winner used Chiddingstone in his production of The Wicked Lady. Terry Jones and the Monty Python team filmed here for Wind in the Willows - Mr Toad's Wild Ride. Elizabeth R, starring Glenda Jackson was largely made here,] as was Gerald Scarfe's Life of Hogarth.
When you also showed the sign for-The Stag Theatre thought you was going to go there as part of it is in town centre.
Delightful walk.

Used to live and work (Marley) there some 45 years ago. ;-)
You didn't look over at temple house, just focused on Otto's. Since I lived in temple house I was slightly annoyed, haha. I looked forward to this video and did not see my former home.
I'm Jade Kenberley Roberts 5th. You are on my list. I'd like to be getting your phone number to get in buildings in Sevenoaks so I can be sure you are looking after yourself.
Don't film in swanley 😢wast of your time!
