Combat Complex developer here. Wow. Thank you for making this video - we're seeing a huge boost in wishlists thanks to you. We are a tiny, cash-strapped team of three, and this is our first game ever, so this is incredibly helpful. Thank you!
you're welcome!
Good luck Combat Complex crew!
BRO!!!!! Seriously Cous!!!! You DESERVE all the attention and MUCH more, m8. Am proud to say am old AF .... I'll be 59 in a few days (I'll stop gaming when my fingers can't move the mouse or my eyes cannot see the monitor), been gaming since 1980 ....... This title is a CERTIFIED BANGER!!!!
Splat (as usual) made a few reasonably actionable suggestions, hopefully you'll think about his suggestions.
I have one more it's a very personal specific for me with Isometric games, please option of camera rotation.
@@Blowfeld20k Thanks! I'm really glad to hear that! I'll absolutely review the video for the suggestions, as soon as I have some time.
So you took your time to give your thanks but you never watched the video? 🤔
"I'm going to flamethrower my way out of a situation I flamethrowered my way in to." Shakespearean.
It definitely does have that Alien Infection vibe, looks like a blast
Yeah, as others pointed out, it reminds me of Alien Shooter, I used to love AS2, when you slowly clear that base, buy new things, and upgrade your guy, it was pretty cool at the time.
I really loved the first Alien Shooter. I devoured it in hours. It was amazing. The second one was not as good for me. But it was good too.
Whoever decided to go with Scutigera coleoptrata as a design influence for the scuttling xenobugs was on to something. Those guys are freaky with all their ghastly twitching legs.
Developer here. Well spotted! Scutigera Coleoptrata was exactly our reference for the centipede monster.
@@Combat-Complex Well chosen! as stated above, those things are creepy enough IRL, making them so big and fast in the game made them vastly more so!
(Please don't do the same with spiders, most especially anything from the Latrodectus genus, I beg you.)
The world needs more twinstick ARPGs.
Developer here. That's exactly what we're making! Our item / stat system is directly inspired by Diablo 2 and 3 (post RoS, of course, haha :)
One of Splatercat's olds here and this game is giving me Berzerk vibes and dual stick would just solidify that idea.
His mention of enemies just being recolor to indicate toughness was all we had back then and is not an issue for some of us.
Splatt previewed a game called Blackout Protocol a while back - that’s one to peep too!
Bold of him to discard his railgun before trying the flamethrower. That one hurt my soul.
Reminds me of The Ascent for sure . Another solid game ,
You got me hooked on the last spell due to your last video.
Funny how I originally brought it the first time you tried it but never got around to playing , but right now it's taking up my time and living it!
Appreciate your hard work, Splat!
This is EXACTLY my kind of game. Wouldn’t have heard of it if it wasn’t for you. Thanks again.
I've been waiting for a proper Alien Shooter successor for decades! Finally, someone did it!
another great vid Splat
This one looks neat! Keep on purging the xenos tides!
love alien swarm at its hayday, man miss those days
Really enjoy your work sir.
Splat, so many cliffhangers in this video. It's a game worth watching because of the drama you gave us alone. Will he get out of the mission with the stuff? (Answered that, but man most of the video was that cliffhanger). Will he notice that the crate was destroyed and that is indeed a secret area? Will he notice the secret door next to the exit?
Makes me want to play the game. Was fun watching your gameplay as usual. Thanks for all the game suggestions over the years :)
Even if they do not expand, visually, from this, I am getting it. Everything I have seen so far is great, more so with a small team.
Developer here -- thank you! It's really encouraging to read comments like this. We'll do our best.
@@Combat-Complex Your welcome, truely. This looks great. Loved the demo and look forward to more.
Looks really good.
I think that you needed to put in more play before you made this vid though Splattercat, as you showed, there are more weapons that drop, and you didn't even realise that missions could be multi-area.
I dislike how quickly the glowing pickups fade though, considering that all the enemies seem designed to push you backwards
Re: disappearing pickups -- yep, that's exactly the dilemma we wanted the player to have. You may risk and go for a pickup, or you may play it safe but miss the pickup. More risk = more reward. We reward aggressive gameplay style and playing near the front line, as close to the enemies as possible. But we plan to have Skill Tree nodes that would make the pickups stay longer.
This looks really cool, going to give the demo a try. Thanks for bringing us this one!
Reminds me of those old alien shooter games
That weapons fire is very satisfying
Looks pretty good. The enemies need to have better explosions when destroyed. The current poof of smoke is not satisfying.
Yes! Blood and guts! Bits and bowels!
Eye candy excitements, yes. But one shot total wiped out of your character is a deal breaker. Enjoyed the demo play, though, so thanks Splat man. 🤙🏼
This one is right up my alley, looks VERY promising.
Looks like great fun! Keep up the good work man!
For P.O.C. this looks amazing!
Reminds me of Project: Overkill or Crusader: No Remorse. Good things to be reminded of and not a bad goal to pursue.
Anybody remember Loaded and Reloaded, PS1 era I think, they were mint!
Alien Swarm, Alien Shoter, SAS 4.
This can be awesome game
Oooh! This looks like it's going to be a banger when it's done! And it's only been a few seconds into the video!
That does look very juicy. Love the effects and overall visuals!
Developer here -- thank you! This is exactly what we were aiming for when working on the game.
@@Combat-Complex Was an instant wishlist for me on steam. Looking forward to its further development, keep up the good work 💪
I love top-down bug hunt games like this--to me, Shadowgrounds is the original example. I prefer more atmospheric, story-based ones where you're exploring and fixing things in the dark, never knowing when something is going to ambush you, but arcadey types are great, too, and this does look quite fun. When I saw the grid-based inventory I thought it was an extraction looter for a second! I'd like that, having to choose what equipment to risk on each foray. Definitely open to more pve takes on that. Anyway, real happy to know about this game and will be keeping an eye on it.
Developer here -- thanks for your interest! BTW, our grid-based inventory is inspired by a much earlier game: Diablo 2 :)
This video: "they need to flesh everything else out"
Other videos: "imma skip all that so I can get to the dakka"
😂😂 Never change
Thanks thanks thanks ! I love games like these but good ones of that types are super rare 😔
Synthetik with giant centipedes m I'm sold. Also no whiff of survival, crafting or colony management, I'm sold'er
Developer here. Yep. Absolutely no base-building. After trying Cygnus Enterpises, I'm positive that this was the right decision. There will be crafting (unlocked later), but it won't be mandatory at all, you can fully rely on random loot drop if you prefer so.
Looks promising!
This reminds me of Shadowgrounds, which I loved back in the day.
Damn... Alien Swarm
That's a name I haven't heard in a while
Got me interested
11:42 I appreciate that Courage reference
I have been into Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: Martyr lately, so this seems like something id be interested in playing. This game seems to need a heavy flamer lol.
The game does have flamethrowers, plus a whole bunch of fire-related stats on items to support the flamethrower gameplay.
@@Combat-Complex You are speaking my language, the question is will there be skills to support flamethrower gameplay as well
Reminds me of Alienation, Loaded, and Re-Loaded.
@30:00 Can I even get through this? They must not be destructible - crates collapse from DOT damage, unnoticed as he moves away. Just Splattercat things!!! It's hard to game and talk and pay attention to the details, especially in ARPGs!
Looks pretty sweet, wishlisted.
One to watch for sure. With some polish, this could be a real gem.
reminds me of space siege
The developers nailed the feeling on the shots, I would love to see those shots with a lower pitch and some rev. Kind of like "Nuclear throne"
Just go full nuclear bomb on each shot
Developer here. Haha, we already did that with the shotgun sound -- it actually plays two samples at once, in overlap. I'd love to do the same with the rifle, but it turned out to be tricky. I'm not currently satifsied with how rifle sounds, but remaking that would take weeks, and we have two Steam Fests to prepare to :(
@@Combat-Complex Yeah, i'm also a developer and time constraints are a killer.
The best source of "inspiration" that i found on this topic is nuclear throne and of course "juice it or lose it" (UA-cam video) has great things on sound.
Most of their sounds seems to be 1clip sample with multiple overlaping samples with a very high peak at the start that decays quickly.
Mainly so the sounds doesn't become overwhelming and the game turns into a mess of lasting sounds everywhere.
The game is looking great, congrats!
@@Combat-Complex Also, a very small detail that i think could improve a lot the "feeling" of the game is, at least for myself, is more audio feedback when you kill monsters.
I just love very distinctive and over the top sound explosions when you kill something to feel the weight of my actions.
@@CultivationPath Agreed, but we have to be careful -- there are a lot of enemies on screen, and if we buff the individual sounds too much, they can become overwhelming when you kill multiple enemies at once. This may also drown out important sounds that indicate upcoming enemy attacks. This is why, for example, Overwatch 1 gun sounds were made much less punchy, compared to their original sounds.
@@CultivationPath Yep, I remember that video. As for our sounds, yes, we use a lot of steep attacks / early peaks, but we try to avoid repetitiveness as much as possible -- e.g. most our sounds have at least 3 randomly-chosen variants, and, in addition to that, we randomize pitch / lows / mids / highs / volume each time we play a sound instance.
This video lost me once the mines started beeping in that extreme high pitched way, I could feel it triggering my tinnitus to flare up.
Getting The Ascent vibes.
Odd timing. I just installed the Alien Breed games yesterday in my latest attempt to play the games on Steam I bought but never played. Had me wondering what was new in the genre. And here you are.
Neither space-terror-bugs nor runaway death-robots was enuff, had to be BOTH!
Haha, nice :) Developer here -- we plan two more "races", if the game takes off :)
Looks solid for how early it is. Give it a year or two in the oven, it'll have some potential for fleshing out nicely. The gun play is most important, and they seem to have nailed that.
Yea their release is this year which kinda has me worried. Seems like a lot of work left to go on it with the supporting stuff but the core is really good.
@@Splattercatgaming Developer here. THANK YOU for making the video -- the huge boost in wishlists we're seeing is incredibly important for us.
Unfortunately, we are forced to release this year. We are a team of three, with no external funding, and our financial runway is nearing its end. We'll release the game in Early Access later this year, but we'll take as much time as we reasonably can to polish what we already have. Plus we have 3 big systems to add (the skill tree, legendary affixes, and roguelike-like power-ups).
This game looks like Alien swarm
im getting The Ascent vibes
Looks a lot like Neon Chrome to me, dunno how many other people played that though.
I feel bad that I couldn't finish this video, but there was some horrific beeping noise that started up in the second mission. I assume it was in the game and not the recording. But still very unpleasant.
Developer here. Maybe that was the grenades / bombs beeping on the ground? We introduce them in Mission 2, and there are tons of Grenade bots in that mission (because other types of enemies arent unlocked yet). On one hand, the beeping is annoying, but on the other hand, we've seen people dying to a first grenade in that tutorial level, so it has to be well-telegraphed.
Im looking forward for arpgs diablo likes with wasd...for reasons 😏😏😏
I would say it´s like Space Siege.
Describe a game that has guns without using the word punchy challenge (impossible)
centipedes? FUCK THAT
Looks very much like the alien breed trilogy
I'm so glad someone else remembers Alien Breed, but sad that I had to scroll so far down in the comments to find a reference to it. It's like when there's a new space combat/trading game and there are hundreds of comments about Freelancer, but there's almost no chance anyone mentions Privateer.
@@beerdedphantom3925 i had lots of fun playing alien breed.
I'm sorry, I had to do it...
Combat complex??? Strange, I find it quite simple.
dude looks kick ass already
Developer here. Thank you! It's really encouraging to read comments like this.
Looks like Xenowerk on iOS (which I loved).
thanks
Cool
This looks like Alienation, only a distant shadow. If you like this, you should try Alienation on PS4/5.
Alien Shooter on steroids 😁
Developer here. Yes. Alien Shooter + procedurally generated missions + item / stat system inspired by Diablo 2.
🖤
Nice
Please play Magicraft it uses the wand crafting mechanics from Noita in a top down game and just looks and feels awesome
There's promise
do you think the game needs focal points to break up the visual monotony?
Looks a bit like Helldivers 1
Developer here. Yes, Helldivers 1 is among our inspirations for the game.
comment for the comment god!
Looks a bit like a scruffy The Ascent.
Yea it does have that vibe doesn't it haha
Neon Chrome does this but better.
Looks like alienation on ps4
Unless they really flesh this out I'd rather just reinstall The Ascent if I ever feel like playing a top down shooter like this.
Looks nice, but a bit of a shame that most of action is happening off screen. The gameplay of "move forward > trigger spawn > back up 2 screens while spamming bullets at enemies not on screen" is not very satifying.
Stopped getting recommends for your channel a few months back and didn't notice. Got that itch and had to search for you.
Fuck UA-cam.
You got to subscribe, it makes you better than elryone else. *wink*
@@PatrickLambert81 Yeah, that's why I said fuck youtube. I've been subbed to splatty for many years. But Youtoobs doesn't show me his new stuff when it pops up. I like to throw on a bit of the Splat while I'm rocking meat on the grill.
Ruiner?
bugger no multiplayer. this would be an easy buy if MP
Developer here. Agreed, co-op multiplayer would be a great addition. We already have some cobbled-together netcode that allows co-op, but we're focusing on getting the single-played part right first.
Looks like a The Ascent ripoff
