Awesome. Don could you send me a digital image of your logo. I want to engrave something for you as a little thanks for helping me along my leather work journey.
They look great! For those of us that make our own templates, can you go over how you make a template? Like the distance from your stitch line to edge and how much room you allow? Also how you set your tooling windows.
I prefer to make a leather tap off of it... you can actually make tap offs with a floral pattern carved into it as well so when you tap it off it will transfer the floral pattern as well. Saves time. It you could definitely make a template with the window cut out.
Been a leather worker for a long time and I see a lot of UA-cam craftsmen tooling leather. Most of them do it incorrectly which makes me cringe. It sure is a pleasure watching you tool leather the way it should be done. Thank you for upholding the integrity of our art.
@@ItsJustJerFromJersey much like welding or plumbing or electrical work leather working was a trade skill. There are correct techniques for complicated work. Today it's more of a hobby and I agree if it works for a hobbyist then stick with it.

What a brilliant easy to follow video. Your voice is so soothing and calm. I will certainly try this pattern. Thankyou so much for taking the time to film and share. All the Best, Maggie and MACK, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, UK
Thanks for the video! Why do you use dye over edge paint? Just have it around? Edge paint has less chance of bleeding (which I have found happens alot when dyeing veg tan edges).
Dan do you make them for Toothpicks Copperlocks and Single blade trappers? I haven’t seen any of those specifically being marketed and I prefer to belt carry my expensive knives rather than hide them in a pouch Thanks
Welp, I'm not sure what a "buck stitch needle" is, but my main gig is whip making (kangaroo leather, so I make and use a LOTTA lace), and I use Perma Lok needles--the back end is threaded (female), and you just screw it onto the point of your lace good and tight. I've only RARELY had a problem with them coming off, they just don't, and oh my GAWD are they a time saver!
I like your videos Don awhile Back I bought a (1955-56) 99k singer sewing machine..What type of needles would you recommend for this type of thread I probably should upgrade the motor also if you have any advice I would appreciate it thank you Dave
Old hand to leather work bit new to the channel. Mr. G, you have taught me some things i never knew existed in the 30 years of hyde hobbying. Thank you for your time, sir. By the way, Are from anywhere close to Comanche County? I think I know you, boss. Thanks again.🤙🤙
I just watched your video and it's excellent for a newbie like me. I'm hoping you wouldn't mind providing me a list of the 20 tools and manufacturer brands that a newbie should buy 1st. Thank you in advance and thank you for your detailed videos.
WOW!!!! Greetings from Ossett, West Yorkshire, England. (Red underline on the Ossett, the only place in the world named Ossett). A fantastic tutorial by someone highly intelligent and very skilled, thee best presented, informative, clear and concise tutorial on You Tube I have ever watched. Well done, man you should be a teacher, you have a gift that needs showing to the future leather workers of the world early in school, even the music is not over powering, gentle without interfering with your concise explanation of the process. 2.8K likes and not one dislike, just amazing. Thank you for that. Don, if you don't mind me using your first name (or Mr Gonzales if you prefer). I feel privileged to have been allowed the experience of watching the best tutorial ever. Many thanks from me, Chris, proudly from Ossett, England, the only one in the world, did I mention that once before?????
I have the pattern pack for this build and made a couple of sheaths for a case trapper knife. The sheath has a really tight fit, tight enough my knife is getting stuck in the sheath. My stitch line is about 1/8 of an inch from the tooling window. Is that enough room?
I don't know how to work leather, but for 3 days, I have sat and watched your videos, I think at the age of 58, I have a new hobby, this video done it for me the sheaths I will start off with, if I can find where I can buy your patterns on line, great videos no messing about straight in to the work, love it.
man you need to grind the impact side of that punch, that's getting close to destroying your hand. go ahead and google why you grind the heads down when they start to mushroom
Best video ever very well said very professional very good quality video, need to show more about dyes and cemicals used but other than that its perfect
Awesome. I’m new to leather working of this type. What is your sewing machine model? I have 3 walking foot machines but not like yours. Would love to get one like yours!
Can I ask, on curved surfaces, should you tool the flat piece then wet mould it, or wet mould to shape then tool. I find that sometimes the tooled pattern gets distorted or looses definition if I wet mould after tooling. Thank you
Another amazing video. I just got the pattern pack. I was wondering if you could tell me more about the lace so I can find it at SLC. The white is kangaroo, but what is the darker lace used for the whip stitch? Kangaroo comes in 3/32, 1/8, or 1/4. Thank you for all you do ❤️

How did you make your lace ? and what type of leather did you use Thanks
Thank for sharing👍 I will for sure make one for my website. Great 💡 idea. 😃

Genuinely confused - why don't you cut the tooling window out in your template piece?
I prefer to make a leather tap off of it... you can actually make tap offs with a floral pattern carved into it as well so when you tap it off it will transfer the floral pattern as well. Saves time. It you could definitely make a template with the window cut out.
Hi Don, What trim knife do you use ?
We like that the buck stitch ended up double, where the tip of the blade rest
God Bless You 🕊️
and Thank You for 🇺🇲😊 Sharing Your Expertise

Most leatherworking vids ,they say if it works for you , its not the wrong way.

Much respect.

I will certainly try this pattern.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to film and share. All the Best, Maggie and MACK, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, UK
Love your work, video, etc, but you waste a lot of leather in my opinion.
what kind of knife are you using? Also, have you ever slipped and lacerated your thumb?😀
Do you have a pattern for a fixed bladed knife, a cross draw pancake style?
He has a video that goes over making a pancake style sheath.
Thanks Don, I just bought your pack.. appreciate you.
bla bla bla 👎👎👎👎🤮🤮🤮👊☝
Me again, do you have a UA-cam video on a cross draw pancake style for the fix bladed knife ?
I'm using 4-5 Oz leather and no sewing machine yet. Can I hand-stitch this before lacing it?
Thanks for the video!
Why do you use dye over edge paint? Just have it around?
Edge paint has less chance of bleeding (which I have found happens alot when dyeing veg tan edges).
Does anyone know what width the buck stitch lace is?
Why make the pattern so big just to cut off almost an inch of leather, that's such a waste..
Stop with the beards plrase... you are seems all taliban... all the same...
