I’m going to be away from UA-cam for about 5 weeks but when I’m back yours will be one of the first things to watch. Seriously you’re doing a great job with this channel.
I can't speak for everyone, but me personally I don't hold the Prodigy against you. It's the most affordable option you had to run tests on to give you a new perspective. $5000 to $7000 dollar pistols, being bought for the purpose of perspective and testing, are for people with a TON of disposable income. I commend you for going out and gaining new perspective and not just taking word of mouth from others, (who, lets face it are probably bought and paid for most of the time) and then sharing your results. Thank you.
I appreciate that, but I can do you one better. I didn’t even buy this guy, I borrowed it from a friend I went to college with haha. So the opinions in this video are as unbiased as they come!
Great topic. I think 2011s are like performance cars. The higher they perform, the more strict the maintenance schedule and cost of ownership. They have more parts, tighter tolerances, and generally require more lubrication. For these reasons, I don't think they will ever be as reliable as an M&P or any duty grade striker. But they are great aspirational purchases and fantastic competition guns. Enjoy the Prodigy. It's good to see you expanding into new platforms.
I think since you used the car analogy, I think the Staccato is like the Corvette of the super car world. It's reliable for duty use just as long as you lube it and you can hang with the big boys(Ferrari/Lambos/Mclarens) for comp with the Staccato XL. The 2011's aren't an issue anymore than Glocks are and the aftermarket is there for anything you want to change. This new HD line for Staccato is a big step forward into what the new 2011's will be like.
You nailed it. I agree completely on your comparison to cars. Does a pagani zonda daily as well as a Camry? Hellllll no. But is it a better car? Helllll yeah it is. Just a more narrow use case
I am looking at the Staccato P or the new HD 4.5 for duty/LE use. Currently running a Glock 47 but debating the swap, your video is helping me out with my choice a good bit. Thank you!
My unsolicited advice would be only to use a 2011 if the performance increases are substantial enough for you to be willing to deal with its pitfalls. Honestly for me it’s the external safety shit I can’t stand. But to each their own. Good luck on your pistol journey my man!
Same boat! I’ve been wanting to switch to an 2011 for my duty carry but haven’t gotten anything yet. I’m definitely now considering the HD4.5, but our department is switching to the PDP so I’m waiting to see how I like that.
What version did you get? I wanted the 4.25 comped then they came out with the compact version and it also gets a lot of mixed reviews from gun snob youtubers
@biscaynesupercars I haven't fired it yet, but I just have the regular tan 4.25 version, but I can say the aesthetics on that gun are off the charts, I love it.
@@screamingeagle11b ya I keep hearing about that new staccato. I’ve never had the chance to shoot one. I’ve actually never shot any 2011 now that I think about it. The price is a lot so thats another reason I was looking at the prodigy
Metal frame guns seem to be making a comeback and I think 2011s are in that mix and might’ve even started the trend. I’m seeing more brands with polymer frame guns making metal frame versions like S&W MP metal frames or Sig Legions plus their aftermarket frames
You are putting out some great content man love your channel. One thing I would say is I would recommend getting a Dawson Precision Tool less Guide Rod. This greatly improves efficiency with the gun. You no longer need to have a tool to disassemble the gun (unless you want to remove the firing pin and extractor).
I think 2011s have pulled a lot of interest, but there are a few little intricacies that keep people from being fully invested in them as duty guns. I think Staccato hit the mark with the HD for this reason, though a lot of 2011 guys don’t understand why they made that gun. External ejector, no grip safety, drop safe, Glock mags… they’re hitting the LE/MIL crowd for a duty weapon and some people don’t understand why those things matter. I think it’s a really nice middle ground between the Staccato P and a Glock. I think 2011s do have a bright future in the duty market because of guns like the HD.
I actually didn’t purchase this gun, I borrowed it from a friend. So a long term review isn’t on a schedule sadly. But I’m looking into buying my own 2011!
If you like to be more involved with keeping it clean and having a maintenance schedule for spring change then it is an excellent choice. They require more work but the payoff is great.
This may be a little controversial but in my opinion after shooting my Beretta 92a1, I feel myself drifting towards metal frame guns. Great video as always.
1911 and 2011 are great shooters but with tested passive safeties I feel they fall short as a carry firearm IMO. A couple of ideas for new shooters. 1. Firearm conditions 2. Home defense
Walther steel frame is a laser beam. I’ve only shot one once, but man it was incredible. This prodigy was just something I wanted to try out, I didn’t purchase it
I find interesting how handguns for defensive use have come full circle. I began shooting when the choices were (1) wheelguns, or (2) a 1911. My first duty gun was a S&W M59, but I carried (off duty) and competed with a 1911 in .45. Back in the day, 9mm was considered a great submachine gun round, but not so much for defensive handgun. Then Para Ordinance developed a double stack .45, and everybody in the gun world wanted one. Then Glock happened, and suddenly polymer, striker-fired guns became a defacto choice, and people began to shun the 1911/2011. Well, except for actual gunfighters who kept using the 1911 in .45 or (later) 10mm and .40 S&W for another couple of decades. Fast forward to today, and it seems that 2025 will be the year of the 2011. Wow. What a ride.
As someone who went through Glocks, Sigs, and S&W, I am now a hard advocate for 1911/ 2011’s. The performance increase is hard to ignore. It made me love shooting again. No, it is not more practical than polymer guns but loving your firearm does go a long way. It makes you want to train more which is what matters most. I shot my first 1911 more in 9 months than I did any of my polymer guns in over 2 years. That alone has made the platform the better choice for me.
I went from a P365 to carrying a 2011. I equate it to taking care a Corolla vs a Lexus. You're going to get your Lexus maintained a little more often than the Corolla. You take care of your tools, your tools take care of you.
9mm 2011's finally are reliable. I think naturally, we start with a stock gun, then upgrade it, then look for a gun with a better trigger and less recoil. That eventually points us to 2011's
Majority of Texas law enforcement, including SWAT have started carrying Staccato’s. Now with them being able to use Glock mags, I’m sure even more will begin to carry. Shooting my Staccato vs Glock is just buttery smooth. Love the Glocks, but something about the Staccato just hits different.
I own both good polymers and good 1911s. You can get close with triggers on a polymer but not exact and the big thing for me is grip angle and weight. either are great choices. for beginners I do recommend having a pistol with a manual safety. Most people do not have great trigger discipline and a manual + grip safety can be handy.
The new staccato will be great to see how it does since it's developed around the 9mm magazine (I think it takes glock mags?) versus the 2011 being adapted from/around the 45 magazine.
Great video my friend! I love the common sense mentally you have about firearms. I do wish that you based your opinion from a Non Comped 2011. The Comp makes it shoot 40% better than a non Comped gun. I do have a Stacc port custom Staccato that I love. It's a great gun but it does pose the question of if I had to only one gun, would that be it. The answer is No. Because the tolerances are too tight as if you are the kind of person that doesn't oil and maintain it, it will fail. Now what I trust my life to is my Sig Legion SAO 229. That Sig has NEVER failed me after 8 years of having it. That Sig have been through mud, under murky water minutes at a time and 600 round range days. By no means am I Sig fanboy. But a STHF or I'm never coming back home gun......it is not.
I agree, right now it isn’t. But what if it becomes just as reliable down the line, do you think you’d consider it? There’s a lot to think about. My M&P is my SHTF gun for sure, but I’m curious what 2011’s will be like in a few years

@ can’t knock you or anyone for carrying one either. I’ve shot a couple and they are so dope. I just feel like for $800+ I can make the striker fired pistol exactly tailored to me. But who knows, maybe I fold one day and buy one anyways, you know how that is as a gun guy 😂😂
They will never be the new duty gun in mass. They cost too much for most LEO's. Most officers are lazy and won't keep up with the maintenance. LEO's hate change, and most don't want to learn to work the safety or attend transition classes.
Can you duty use a 2011? Sure. You would need to be a gun nerd by default to even consider it. Everything about it is objectively worse than a glock or mp2.0 with the exception of flat range performance. Heavier, bulkier, mags cost way more, initial purchase price is way more, reliability will never be as good even if its by a hair difference, stricter maintenence intervals etc etc
It has been estimated that the average production cost of a Glock 17, is less than $100… So far, the lowest respectable 2011 manufacturers retail price is $1,500 There are way too many factors preventing 2011’s from being considered widely by LE agencies…

$1500++ too rich for my blood on a pistol.
Just commenting for the algorithm
Haha I got ya. It’s still pricey, but definitely doable if budgeted for
Glock (not gucci, just Glock the way Glock is) > anything other handgun for duty use
Drop safe is so overrated
Nah.
😂
Why is your face covered? Are you a fugitive? 😂
Why blur your face?
Check out my Q&A videos
@ that’s a 40 min long video 🙄
You could’ve just answered but cool
No, the 2011 is not the future. It is not well suited for a combat/duty pistol.
I think the main pro for strikers is the can run dry. My Glock and vp9 have been shot with no oil 😅
Oh they definitely run when dry! And that’s a MAJOR pro lol
It has been estimated that the average production cost of a Glock 17, is less than $100…
So far, the lowest respectable 2011 manufacturers retail price is $1,500
There are way too many factors preventing 2011’s from being considered widely by LE agencies…
Very good point, I didn’t know that about Glock
