You are the reason I keep wanting to learn Mr. Canterbury. You are a huge inspiration and I am always learning new things from your channel and books. Thank you for all that you do.
Your video on making drawing salve got me on a binge of looking into useful herbs. That lead me to harvest a bunch of raspberry leaves as I was pruning, it they are useful for menstrual cramps, and I dried about a gallon ziplock of dried leaves for my daughters. And I was able to use plantain for a scratch today, so thanks , your video sent me on a learning journey, and reminded me to actually use the raspberry leaves instead of buying them.
Wonderful video. The most informative and inspirational part of this video was the deja vu moment wherein you advised all to "never stop learning". This is a statement my siblings and I heard a million times as we were growing up and even on into adulthood. My father was an adamant advocate of education. As a child of the depression, he only made it to the 6th grade. If you ever talked to him you would never guess this. My father continued his education throughout his life by observation, queries, and hands on learning. He would tell us also, "It is not important to be the smartest person in the room, the important part is to not be the dumbest.". God bless you brother and your family.
Nice video Dave 👍 ...Very comprehensive approach in structuring the Woodsmans Appothocary. Can see the engineer in you coming out. The opossum approach you apply to gathering resources in nature transcends into your gathering of knowledge. Well done.
Would you be willing to share those sheets in the pouch? Also is there any worry about the contents of the kit freezing? can you also add that bag to your Amazon store?
One thing I would like to see Dave and through my research, and it is something everyone avoids, is the shelf life of these products. I see the old 18th century folks use to prepare these remedies, salves, tinctures, concoctions etc... in large batches because the majority (collection) is seasonal.
Thank you very much for this information. I am a relatively new subscriber but enjoy your content immensely and look forward to sharing it with my children.
Hi Dave I am pleased to say that I will be attending the Mora Adventure i May. It will be a pleasure to meet you after all the years I have been following you on youtube and TV. Regards Adrian
Hey Dave, nice idea ! What about adding a list of counter-indications ? Some plants maybe not suitable for some people with some conditions, allergies or taking some other medicines. Let's not forget that a plant can be poisonous if mixed with some other ingredients, or can be fatal to people having heart condition, for example. Safe journey !
First thing I noticed was the book by Mathew Woods who is one of our most prominent western herbalists. Oh, also just ordered the deluxe slingshot from your website.
Excellent video. Would love to see your list you made for the Apothecary contents and uses, on the Woodland Wisdom blog perhaps? Would make a good baseline for others to get their own kits/research going.
Dave great video. my grandma and mom is from Kentucky and growing up they used home remedies and herbs and homemade ointments. When I get the start of a cold I use Golden Seal Root. I like your video on pine rosin salve my grandma used it all the time thanks for the videos I learn slot from them
Great Video Dave I am just beginning to delve into the area of apothecary. Oh yea I just ordered my Bush-craft Pack from Duluth pack company. I watched your reviews and wanted to give it a try. They did not have the Pathfinder version in stock and I'm not one that likes to wait. Keep the videos coming I am just beginning to teach myself and your videos help with my research and most of the gear I use is from your website.
Dave...I've seen a few of the videos on hide tanning. Could U d another for squirrel & rabbit n particular so I can understand in laymens terms & not destroy the hide. I've always been told that every animals brains r adequate to tan their own hide. I know Ur quite busy but would appreciate at least a vid that details small game hides...which would come closer to making clothing with. Great stuff here...appreciate all U do!
Hiya Dave, looked for the book in your store, couldn't find it ... did have a look around the store and i will say it looked great (compared to when i looked at it just as it was new). Especially appreciated the offered choices, most noticeably the items that could be considered 'competition'. To me it says a lot when a store/manufacturer has enough confidence in their own products that they are not afraid to just put the competition right next to it, not only for that, but also for taking the actual customer serious for his/her freedom to make said choice. Also liked the wide price range of products offered, there were quality choices for almost every (if not all) category of products for every budget (well except for maybe a real cheap takedown bow, but that is just me being picky). Really 'Job well done !', i know ít's not you running the shop, so if you can, be so kind to let them know ^^
i teach my 3 kids 2 boys and a girl survival technique's cause like you said computers aren't going to be hear all the time still learning different things
Hey Dave, love your videos, serious question here. In real life SHTF scenario, would you consider marijuana in your woodsmen appothocary kit, in my experience it does in fact hold real medicinal value for a variety of things. Thanks and have a blessed day sir!
Hey David, love your vids, don’t know how I missed this one. Any way possible to get the list you are using... would be invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Great video as always Dave. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with us and I look forward to the next one. Suggestions for the kit. Beeswax and olive oil and yarrow.
As with all things we must see the larger picture, Olive oil is in the camp cook Box, Beeswax in the trapping kit and the camp tool box and truly there is nothing Yarrow can accomplish that other items in the kit already cannot
I always thought skunk fat was just so greasy. It makes sense that it soaks into the skin so easy. it always seems so hard to fully wash off your hands
Excellent vid plus i believe these are british trees too Subbed Question; whats the fastest most reliable way i can learn on the cheap? (Unemployable, v slow but steady health recovery from chronic fatigue) Are you aware of any good british specific resources to learn? Should i focus on identification first?
As I said in the video brother all this info will be available in my new book available for pre order now, and is also given to all students at our medicinal plant classes
Activated has been heated to something crazy like 10000*F. the heat opens the pores of the carbon, allowing it to grab more particulates, and smaller ones at that.
don't know what you use in your salve I use honey and dandelion I'll tell ya my son had mersa on his legs left big open wounds 3 week treatment and almost healed but here in pa. plantain is done but it's great anti fungal microbial and anti septic all in one and edible to atb brother ...tom
interesting views, what cracks this ex grunt up is your answers, if like in the yurt you reply on video you really go into detail but here short and sweet. thanks Brother
Do you have a PDF for the notes in your apothecary, I would love to have that in my bug out bag.

thank you dave...I hope to come back to this...
Thank you for the tip on Matthew's books, I'll add them (along with yours) to my library! Never Stop Learning.
Nice video Dave 👍 ...Very comprehensive approach in structuring the Woodsmans Appothocary. Can see the engineer in you coming out. The opossum approach you apply to gathering resources in nature transcends into your gathering of knowledge. Well done.
Great video Dave. This type of information is very important for the woodsman. Thanks for putting it out for us.
Would you be willing to share those sheets in the pouch? Also is there any worry about the contents of the kit freezing? can you also add that bag to your Amazon store?
I'd like a copy of those sheets as well.

Maybe waterproof your reference material in the kit and put clear tape on your labels?
VERY interesting video. Enjoyed it very much. You covered quite a bit in a short period of time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

love that woodstove
You can boil the charcoal from the fire to "activate it"
Great stuff, thanks! Ya, I'd definitely add a dropper bottle of iodine to the kit!
First thing I noticed was the book by Mathew Woods who is one of our most prominent western herbalists. Oh, also just ordered the deluxe slingshot from your website.
skunk oil comes from glands on the skunks back which is the type of oil Indians used in remedies. my dad use to trap skunks for perfume

Skunk oil also helps alevate arthrites if rubed on the aflicted spots.
Yes sir, "As iron sharpens iron so a man sharpens his friend" or is sharpened by him. Thnx for sharing the info Dave
Thanks so much again !
Your "Journal of the Yurt" series was also great.
Great information
Well done!
Activated charcoal assists you in throwing up if you’ve consumed a poison or drug. Good stuff.

Outstanding
Can you please bless us with a list or PDF kind sir?
Awesome concept
Please print the sheets .... SO INTERESTED!!!!
I've started to put together a materia Medica library
Have you thought of selling the kit empty? (just the containers and measuring cup/spoon) it's a really cool setup and would help get someone started

Hey Dave, love your videos, serious question here. In real life SHTF scenario, would you consider marijuana in your woodsmen appothocary kit, in my experience it does in fact hold real medicinal value for a variety of things.

Had to watch just to find out what "Appothocary" meant lol
Survivalists leave the spellcheck off of their computers to reduce weight.
makes sense ... but I added another letter.. so does that add weight ?
For a guy that distrusts doctors this video is made for me - I need to learn more about herbal solutions 🤗👍
Thanks for the informative video Dave, i am curious why you would choose willow over ghost pipe for I am going to assume pain relief.
@David Canterburry it is possible to give us that list?
Hey I was wondering if you have any videos on the preservation of meat in the wild like smoking it or salting meats?
Alfred Cornflake books
Hey Dave, any suggestion on where to get the reusable bags from?

Siberians used badger fat too for respiratory issues.
I always thought skunk fat was just so greasy. It makes sense that it soaks into the skin so easy. it always seems so hard to fully wash off your hands
David's there a book that you would recommend for somebody that would be living in Colorado to be reading for this topic for medical and edible plants
And to think I wasted all of that skunk fat in a grease lamp without knowing it had medicinal applications!
Excellent vid plus i believe these are british trees too
Subbed

Are you aware of any good british specific resources to learn?

Is your real sea salt Himalayan???
Do you give a copy of that in your classes?

As I said in the video brother all this info will be available in my new book available for pre order now, and is also given to all students at our medicinal plant classes
Thank you
what is the difference between activated charcoal and regular charcoal?
Regular is nearly inert. AC is *very* active and absorbent.
Obviously you have internet access. Ask Google the same question, and you'll get the answer almost immediately. Good luck.
Activated has been heated to something crazy like 10000*F. the heat opens the pores of the carbon, allowing it to grab more particulates, and smaller ones at that.
Thanks for answering in a helpful way.
Will you do a video on how to butcher an animal.
Have at least 6-10 vids on that already on my channel brother

If I wasn't city-bound, I'd want you for a neighbor.
a lot of talking not a lot of concise info. I would have liked it to be concise, short, and academic. Or provide a list in the description
I love ya Dave but the 'H' is silent...herb = erb
hehe only where you come from... ;-)
