There's a secret minigame that you can play on the Riviera stage in Sega Rally 2 that involves using your car to knock over as many cones as possible within the time limit. To play it, start the game in Practice mode and select the Riviera stage and your car of choice. Drive around the track normally until you find the two cones sitting on the side of the track after the second hairpin: drive over them to knock them over, then continue onto the second lap. During the second lap, watch carefully after you clear the second hairpin: a narrow passage in the left wall will have opened up between the hairpin corner and the two cones you knocked over earlier.
Once you drive through the passage, the timer will freeze and a second timer will begin ticking down. In this courtyard, drive through as many cones as you can to score points. Each orange cone knocked down is worth 100 points. Yellow cones are also worth 100 points, but knocking them over will reveal two extra rows of green cones which are worth 200 points each. Bonus points are also awarded for knocking over an entire row of cones.
Once you leave the cone area or the minigame timer runs out, the cones will disappear and the regular timer will resume counting down. Don't forget to plan your route so that you can quickly leave the game area without losing much time as you can continue racing on the main course once the minigame is over. After playing the minigame, it cannot be played again until after the race is over. Good luck!

This ONLY works (on Arcade version) if:
You've completed the requirements to unlock the secret cars, which is:
1. The game has to have been running for 4 weeks worth of time.
2. The game has to have been played 100 times (some say 1000, but I think it's 100)
So if you don't have the ability to select the two hidden cars, then this path won't open up, even if you've knocked down the cones.
Also: if the cones aren't there to begin with, then you have an earlier version.
Again, this is all specifically for the arcade version.

Tried the arcade 3 times, no luck, then the pc version without problems, I could hear sound effects when running them over and I managed to finish the course (but in second place, on normal difficulty) with a high score of 13100 :D
Awesome work, glad you got the cone game working!! Keep on practicing and focus on learning how to enter and exit the cone arena quickly, I lost a lot of time there at first but once I got it down I could go so fast I could still finish the race in first place!

I just figured out why:
For the Arcade version:
The game has to have been "on" for 4 weeks worth of time; and at least 100 games have to have been played.
(I.E., the requirements to unlock the hidden cars)
If you can't access the hidden cars, then the path won't open after you've hit the cones
Which Version of Sega Rally 2 is this? its certainly not the 1998 Windows version.. it has much better reflections here, and much better draw distance.

What input device are you using? I have a Logitech F310 joypad and it's very difficult controlling the car to me. Can you recommend me a different input device or settings I can play with? What are you using?
Lol I have the F510. Sega Rally is fine with controllers, not the same with Virtua Racing and Daytona
I actually use either a PlayStation 3 era dualshock controller or a GameCube controller for these playthroughs; it does take some getting used to since the steering range is so wide and the arcade steering wheels took multiple turns to go from lock to lock, but when you get the feel for the steering down everything else comes easy! I map the face buttons to each of the gears, analog triggers to throttle and brake, and the dpad to the VR/camera buttons; my buddy used to have one of the logitech gamepads though and I did notice it was less sensitive to smaller inputs and made it hard to steer, so it might be worth a shot to try another gamepad out if you've got one 👍
lol change game then! u know u can setup ur car? i ended whole game as HARD with keyboard. sooo ez. u talk about controller, on a super MEGA arcade game of 30 years ago. Whatn happned if u going to play... dunno... dirt rally 2? or something like this?
