This is seriously going to help me out a lot! I just got a 2003 Honda CRF450r with a lot of work that needs to be done and a big part of that is it getting a valve adjustment and it makes sense now because I checked the air box and it was absolutely filthy and seriously in need of a replacement or cleaning
Cameron you got mad skills!! Kids don't try this at home unless you have a very skilled mechanic supervising..I'm serious the difficulty factor on this COMPLETE tear down and REASSEMBLE is a solid 9 out of 10....
I was gonna say the looks of the intake side of the Piston you could tell it was lack of a air filter. Plus those stock valves are made of butter they are the weakest link .
The valves wear like that normally due to the seat being a harder material than the valve. My guess would be that the motor over heated. Maybe the cooling system, or a lean fuel to air ratio occurred...
Good afternoon from now I apologize if you write something wrong because I do not know English I'm brasilerio, I would like to know what oil, viscosity and ml you put in the inverted suspension of the CR 250? I bought this suspension soon I put it on xr 200 thanks.
It's very easy to pull them down but it's a lot harder to put them back together if you don't rebuild a lot of them. The bore looks scratched right down the bottom of the cylinder which is a pain in the ass because I'd say it's Nikasil coated,to do it properly, the cylinder would need to be rebored & re treated. It seems to be the technology that even Ford have developed which is the plasma arc weld spraying technology which patent Nissan has adopted,it's similar due to the fact they use no cast or pressed in bore liners as such. The valves on the motorbike can be possibly reground & retreated with a titanium coating if economical or just straight out replaced. Shimming is a pain due to the fact the shims are a select fit & it's a matter of getting the right ones. The first of the Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R's used them as well as some of the Toyota engines. I know Nissan used them due to the fact the RB26DETT engine was classed as high performance when made but Toyota used them in the Corollas & Camrys. Wouldn't it be easier for Toyota to use hydraulic lifters in them? Their engines aren't high performance !!!!
Sorry to bother ya, But I have a crf450r that seizes up a few moments after start. The kicker locks up and I can rock it back and forth to free it up... only for it to start and seize again?
so if i grab the flywheel to see if there is any crank play up and down and side to side. will this give me an accurate read of the crank is okay? and can be used for the time being? obviously not new..
Cool video. I would say the original owner wasn’t big on maintenance. Engine was filthy inside. With regular oil changes cleanup would be minimal. Explains that piston and cylinder issue too😣 This ain’t no XR
I see you have green gaskets, but are they put on by honda itself or are they aftermarket? like put on not by honda. Cuz i have a honda quad, and the guy i bought it from didn't know if it ever had a rebuilt, so if the green gaskets are aftermarket, it probably would have had an inspection inside the engine.
I got a ? I'm finishing up my 07 450r build I had head port and polished 1mm bigger exhaust valves stage 2 cam 13:5:1 wisco new crank what is the best way to break it in
Brake and parts cleaner them. If you want bling... pop into a truck stop and buy a polish wheel and jewelers rouge. Polish up the boltheads to a chrome finish
Had a 2008 CRF 450 22hrs later 5th gear started slipping out stripped to find 5th gear drive dogs rounded off got a file n it was soft on other side too piece of junk rebuilt it and went back to a yz250 2009 brand new still got her and loving it
Nice job man How long this engine last? Is that worth to turn this bike in to dual sport or high maintenance will be a problem in the field away from the shop? Thnx
I know you sell plastics for bikes individually but what would you take for a full bike? Im working on my bike and want better plastics that arent faded.
.....go to rockymountainatvmc.com or denniskirk.com, good plastics cheap and quick..... I've gotten UFO and Acerbis from both, good stuff and they came in 3 days. : )'
Awesome video I love all the technical shots and explanations. You make it look so easy to work on a 4 stroke. I have a 17 ktm250sxf and will need to check valves soon.
Cameron Can you please Answer A Question i got? If a old 2stroke "cuts" the cylinder and the piston gets stuck cuse oil pump dies, and the bike gets put in a barn, from 1989, whit all fluids as usual still left inside... What Happends whit bearigs the crank the metal the brake systems, the gasoline, the oil? dose things break? bearigs wear out? Tnx For Answers
The biggest issue is the fuel. Once it sits it will gum up the carburetor and destroy the seals. Bearings should be fine if there was grease/oil and no water entered. Of course flush out all the fluids including coolant, brake fluid, oils, etc.
the wear in the intake valve dont have any to see with the air filter . ... this wear is because the valve drive a high pressure at high rpm. think replace the intake for a valve high resistance valve like a titanium valve . remember this engines come with a two high pressure spring in a intake valves.... thanks bless
soo awesome. I seriously get so intimidated with stuff like this. Like with car engines im fine. But when it comes to the transmission being inside with the engine its a whole different game.
This is an excellent video. I really like your style. I do have a couple of questions that I don't know who to ask for answers so I hope you can help. I have a 2019 CRF450L and would like to detune it a bit for adventure riding. I already have a Vortec ignition, a heavier flywheel and a Recluse clutch should arrive tomorrow. Does anyone make a milder cam and is there a gearset available with a higher fifth and sixth gear. I've ridden motorcycles for many years but am completely new to off road riding and I'm 75 years old. Thanks!
Cameron Niemela alright, sorry for all the questions but what exactly would I need for the bottom end rebuild? I am just trying to have the parts ready and then ill have my friend to the rebuild
how much do you think would be a good price for a shop to take it apart and check it out? i don't have nearly half of the tools i would need lol. my local shop told me it would cost $100 and hour just for service, how long do you think it would take a shop to take it apart, find the problem and put it back together? i just don't have much money to do this at the moment.
On this bike it appears to be lack of maintenance. Air filter was never cleaned so the valves wore heavily. Oil must not have been changed often or ran low causing the cylinder, piston, and crank to wear out.
Augi58 there is so many things that can cause a 4 stroke to blow up your issue is pretty vague because you need to provide everything you did with the bike really for someone to give you a good guess on what went that's why I stay away from 4 strokes but I love riding them they're great bikes! just hate the cost that's why I don't own one
450 4-strokes are fun and mean machine and I love it, but I'm planning to sell it because I've to much problems with it lately. I spent more time fixing it than riding. Going to buy yz250.
Mike Pence My bike runs, but it has deep scraches on cylinder walls just like this crf450. I believe piston is warped because it had bent valves and I replaced them but kept piston.
Augi58 yup I don't got money to fix a blown 4 stroker lol especially a 450 those suckers are expensive. and when they blow it's never just one thing it's always a bunch of stuff
Please don't stop making these awesome videos, I love watching them!!
Couldn't do it without you guys watching and leaving awesome comments! Thanks dude!
it's like porn :D
can't believe I'm getting all this knowledge for free. this is incredible
I could do that no problem. Putting it back together - that’s another story.
Rebuilt mine a couple years back and this video was a great refresher course. I went with stainless steel valves and never looked back.
So much knowledge and confidence to just take apart every component of the engine without hesitation.
All comes with experience and just a love for wrenching.
Thats alot going on. Starting to love the 2 stroke again.
Not as bad as you think once you learn the 4 stroke it’s extremely easy to work on I can have my 250 down to nothing in 30 minutes
A compliment for not selling any useless crap in this video.
This is seriously going to help me out a lot! I just got a 2003 Honda CRF450r with a lot of work that needs to be done and a big part of that is it getting a valve adjustment and it makes sense now because I checked the air box and it was absolutely filthy and seriously in need of a replacement or cleaning
Your videos are therapeutic.
Thank You Jeff!
Man i appreciate so much your patience and effort to do this profissional grade kind of videos!
Well I'm truly thankful for you guys watching the videos and giving your support!
Cameron you got mad skills!! Kids don't try this at home unless you have a very skilled mechanic supervising..I'm serious the difficulty factor on this COMPLETE tear down and REASSEMBLE is a solid 9 out of 10....
Nicely done Cam, smooth as an eel swimming in olive oil, loved the music score.
I cant believe your self taught! That video was very helpfull. Keep up your awesomeness!
Glad you enjoyed the video Jesse! I've had my fair share of learning experiences along the way haha.
professional equipment and workmanship
These videos are great, and you actually learn from them👍🏼
Dude thanks for watching!
Perfect rebuilt vlog
So much parts on a 4 stroke ... 2 strokes are so much easier
True story
GeekTek that's really not bad if you've ever worked on a car engine working on a four stroke motorcycle engine is a cakewalk
Only worked on 2 strokes and currently working in one, Yamaha DT 50 LCD 1998. Its just at first glance 4 strokes are much more complex
Austin Turner "cakewalk" LMAO
behemothfan666 F T P compared to a car engine yes
Congratulations, my friend, for the mechanics videos.
Only ever done top end stuff on engines never bottom, after watchig this video i think id tackle a bottom end with confidence
Bottom end build aren't too difficult honestly, just take your time and watch plenty of videos.
I was gonna say the looks of the intake side of the Piston you could tell it was lack of a air filter. Plus those stock valves are made of butter they are the weakest link .
You nailed it, valves were pretty shot
Wow, Cameron, you do a great job videoing AND diagnosing. Kudos!
The valves wear like that normally due to the seat being a harder material than the valve. My guess would be that the motor over heated. Maybe the cooling system, or a lean fuel to air ratio occurred...
Good methods of disassembly combined with good video: well done Cameron!
Thanks for watching!
Mad skills. Well done young man.
Another great video with very nice editing and angles!
Thank you for checking out the video!
Your videos are so beautiful man haha.. You do an amazing job!!! Have you ever worked for a racing team?
I need to learn valves and carb work
I’ve watched a couple of your vids now, fair to say I’m really impressed with your knowledge and attention to detail. Great work mate love the vids! 👍
Good afternoon from now I apologize if you write something wrong because I do not know English I'm brasilerio, I would like to know what oil, viscosity and ml you put in the inverted suspension of the CR 250?

Awesome video. But why not wash/wipe the engine a bit before disassembly?
Great vid cinematography quality. Thanks for time and effor.
Sorry to bother ya,
But I have a crf450r that seizes up a few moments after start. The kicker locks up and I can rock it back and forth to free it up... only for it to start and seize again?
Why does the factory use Phillips head screws? Seems like a bad idea.
Where did you learn all that you know today? Also, I'm in love with your videos, can't wait for those million subscribers you deserve!
Thanks man! I learned mostly through experience and watching others working on bikes. Been taking notes since I was about 12
32229411gustavoadolfo motomoyadolfo edadeshoy
With all that damage to the Cyl. Wall, I would say someone was doing a poor job of servicing their filter.
Hey Cameron can you send a link to where you got your case splitter from thanks 👍🏽
so if i grab the flywheel to see if there is any crank play up and down and side to side. will this give me an accurate read of the crank is okay? and can be used for the time being? obviously not new..
How much time did it take to rebuild that engine?
Cool video. I would say the original owner wasn’t big on maintenance. Engine was filthy inside. With regular oil changes cleanup would be minimal. Explains that piston and cylinder issue too😣
This ain’t no XR
Sweet vid! Had no idea that valves can get like that.
Thanks for watching!
She'll buff
Dvniemela 😬
is this ze brothers???
I see you have green gaskets, but are they put on by honda itself or are they aftermarket? like put on not by honda. Cuz i have a honda quad, and the guy i bought it from didn't know if it ever had a rebuilt, so if the green gaskets are aftermarket, it probably would have had an inspection inside the engine.
OEM Honda gaskets are usually green.
Its a pity there is no long stroke piston and con rod available for these engines.
Pretty peaceful videos my dude. Keep'em coming!
So basically keeping air filter clean will prevent valves from being to shim
To all the boys and gilrs out there, before pulling down the engine, clean it very well before starting!
So if that will be a complete rebuild, hoping you will show us the process as you go. Or is that one staying apart as a parts source?
This bike is for parts only. I will be doing a bike build soon however.
Nice vid. At the end of the day how much did it cost to fix it back to running?
I got a ? I'm finishing up my 07 450r build I had head port and polished 1mm bigger exhaust valves stage 2 cam 13:5:1 wisco new crank what is the best way to break it in
Any tips for clean bolts? So many get stained
Try soaking them in some old gas for a bit, then use a brass brush on them. You can then always top it off with spraying them with some alum cleaner.
WD40 can fix your stained bolts, and they will stay fresh and not get rusty
I soak all my hardware in degreaser or solvent. That'll strip away all the dirt and grime.
Naanak65 wire brush or wheel, wd40 and some CLR
Brake and parts cleaner them. If you want bling... pop into a truck stop and buy a polish wheel and jewelers rouge. Polish up the boltheads to a chrome finish
What an amazing video. I can't imagine how long it took you to get all those camera angles, especially with grease all over your gloves.
Hey someone understands how much time it takes to film these haha. Yeah, it adds some time to the tear down but it's all fun. Thanks for watching man!
Had a 2008 CRF 450 22hrs later 5th gear started slipping out
stripped to find 5th gear drive dogs rounded off got a file n it was soft on other side too
piece of junk
rebuilt it and went back to a yz250 2009 brand new
still got her and loving it
The needle bearing on the clutch had no washer on it unless it was stuck to the pressure plate
awesome video! love watching them, and great camera patience thats amazing, very slick.
Thanks buddy! I do appreciate that.
Nice job man
How long this engine last? Is that worth to turn this bike in to dual sport or high maintenance will be a problem in the field away from the shop?
Thnx
There was no hour meter on this bike. These motors can last for dual sport though.
Cameron are there anymore videos of this bike? I seem to can only see 2 🤔
Hi, I'm looking for CRF 450 2010 on injection ? It is good bike ?
I know you sell plastics for bikes individually but what would you take for a full bike? Im working on my bike and want better plastics that arent faded.
Try Ebay, much cheaper than retail
Joz Sports Lets support his shop, your on his channel!
Most of the time I don't have the full sets. Usually something is cracked or damaged.
.....go to rockymountainatvmc.com or denniskirk.com, good plastics cheap and quick..... I've gotten UFO and Acerbis from both, good stuff and they came in 3 days. : )'
Nice disassembly!
Great Job.greetings from Poland
Thank You! I appreciate you checking out the video.
Cameron Niemela
I thank you for making such great movies
Mr Cameron the dirtbike surgeon
I try to be:)
Holy cow I hope I don't have to do this to mine for a while that's way more complicated then the YZ I did
Could we see more full bike breakdowns? Love those vids
Absolutely! I'll have another one coming out next Tuesday:)
Thanks, keep up the good vids
Awesome video I love all the technical shots and explanations. You make it look so easy to work on a 4 stroke. I have a 17 ktm250sxf and will need to check valves soon.
Thank you for checking out the video man! Best of luck.
Just by looking at the engine while you take it apart, I'd just do a complete overhaul rebuild, top and bottom
Yeah it's being sold in parts regardless.
Did the bike ever get an oil change
Man that was solid stuff.
Great video, as always!
Thanks!
hi ,,air filter and oil filter its the same as honda 450?
Cameron Can you please Answer A Question i got? Cameron Niemela Okay thank you for the info 😆
So its Worth buying a 1981 honda mtx 125, that got a cut cylinder and have been sitting in a barn since 1989, For 250$ ?
Awesome video! I like all the info at the ending too!
the wear in the intake valve dont have any to see with the air filter . ... this wear is because the valve drive a high pressure at high rpm. think replace the intake for a valve high resistance valve like a titanium valve . remember this engines come with a two high pressure spring in a intake valves.... thanks bless
Muy buen video..i love the crf 450 Saludos d honduras...
Hmm yes it's a 4 Stoke I see the problem here
Great video always learn stuff from them
I appreciate you watching!
Sick mate another build can’t wait 🤘👌
What's wrong with it is that it's a Honda and quite a bit of uneccessary work for a top end replacement
soo awesome. I seriously get so intimidated with stuff like this. Like with car engines im fine. But when it comes to the transmission being inside with the engine its a whole different game.
Dude thanks for watching! There's a ton of moving pieces but once you tear into them a few times it's not too difficult.
Great video man
Thanks for checking it out!
Im having trouble kick starting my crf 250r 2009. Takes around 20-30 kickstart. Any helpfull tips what will i do? Thanks mate.
Valves are out of adjustment
could you say whitch part is what(just for the main things) on some video for us new guys pls?
Awesome Video, And Thank God For "Two Strokes" !!! :-)
Yess! I love two strokes.
Counter balancer weight was barley on there lol. List of issues
This is an excellent video. I really like your style. I do have a couple of questions that I don't know who to ask for answers so I hope you can help. Is there a rebuild video?
if you don't mind me asking how much did you get the motor for? also are you selling any parts? my 2005 Honda crf450r motor needs a new bottom end
This motor came with a whole bike I bought. Yes, all the parts are available on my store currently. www.revivemotoparts.com
Cameron Niemela alright, sorry for all the questions but what exactly would I need for the bottom end rebuild? I am just trying to have the parts ready and then ill have my friend to the rebuild
There's many things that could need replacement in the bottom end. You'll need to have the motor completely apart to inspect what needs replacement.
how much do you think would be a good price for a shop to take it apart and check it out? i don't have nearly half of the tools i would need lol. my local shop told me it would cost $100 and hour just for service, how long do you think it would take a shop to take it apart, find the problem and put it back together? i just don't have much money to do this at the moment.
So, what happend to this motor? I would like to know, because I have same problem on my 03 yz450f. Oil was always clean, crank seems fine.
On this bike it appears to be lack of maintenance. Air filter was never cleaned so the valves wore heavily. Oil must not have been changed often or ran low causing the cylinder, piston, and crank to wear out.

Did that ever get a transmission side oil change, damn, some of those parts looked grungy
hi how did u know about fixing dirtbikes or get in to it did some one teach u or ... great vid as all ways
I started working on bikes when I was 12 so most of it has come through experience. My family is pretty good with cars and that helps too. Thanks man!
do the 450 and 250r have titanium DLC coated intake valves?
I know the newer ones have Ti valves, not sure on the older bikes.
I keep having water accumulate in my crankcase breather hose on my 2014 crf450r. Any ideas? Thanks!
Head gasket probably leaking
How you feeling Cameron ??
Awesome video!👌
Thanks dude!
Holy hell Cam. I mean FML on any engine issue. Wow is all I can say.
Nothing it's a beast and it's the best there is. Honda...say no more
well I think it should of ran like that so no problem found yet?
Good work 👏
Holy bolts n gears
Yes indeed!
Never seen a crf450 wt such a nice clutch basket
