  • This video is the complete guide on how to both pollinate, identify, and harvest your venus flytrap seeds. Rather than splitting the entire process into parts, I decided to create a single, no-nonsense video that includes all of the information you should need for your first harvest. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to ask in the comments. Thank you for watching

This is to prevent external pollination from happening when trying to make specific cultivar crosses.

That's very helpful; thank you! Why is it necessary to use a tool to scrape the seeds out of the pod, rather than just gently using a fingernail, or rubbing the pod between thumb and forefinger? I bought a VFT last year which started putting out a flower stalk late in the autumn, and seems to have done okay with a dormancy in the refrigerator. Now that it's out, I'm giving it as much light as I can, and the stalk is growing by almost 1 centimetre a day.

No problem! I find the tool easier to use, and tends to get the ones in crevices out better.

Thanks for this video. After a seasons with my Venus fly traps, I’m gonna let the plants seed this year rather than snip the stalks.
I’m targeting 2 different traps that recently blossomed. Some of the smaller plants seem to not have pollen. The other trap’s anther have bigger pollen which can be seen with the naked eye. I went ahead and did a cross pollination with them both.
Will the flowers curl back into itself whether it has been pollinated or not?

When not pollinated, they turn black. They’ll be very obviously healthy when pollinated
