38:22 It's because door screen transitions are activated when you reach the last block on the right, and not only the door tiles can activate screen transitions as they're just regular solid tiles that are animated when the screen transition is triggered. Sure, this worked just fine in MM1 and MM2 because there were not any rooms like this one, however in this instance instead of making them an actual block type like they did in MM4-6, they just applied some band-aid in the form of the 2-block wide wall and called it a day.
**Score Spoilers Below** Without further ado, let's rank the mean average scores of the endgame bosses in all the Mega Man games ! Ranked from worst to best. ------------------------- Mega Man & Bass : 1.16 stars (5 entries) When the game has a monkey slap it's ass at you, things are going to be ASSinine. When your best boss clocks in at 1.9 stars, yeah, I have no hope for you. ------------------------- MM6 - Score : 2.85 stars (6 entries) Things aren't gonna go well when you have a bubble shooting tripod dog that does nothing. This is the pinnacle of uninspired bosses that range from below average to tripod dog barbeque. Dang, Capcom was like : It's almost the end of the game, just push it out as fast as you can so we can make a few bucks. ------------------------- MM5 - Score : 3.38 stars (6 entries) It looked like there was hope for MM5. Both of the endgame bosses in Wily Castle 5 had decent scores, but those walking Dorkman Walkmen in Protoman's castle had to ruin everything. ------------------------- MM3 - Score : 3.845 stars (11 entries) MM3 has by far the largest number of entries on this list. While some things like Hologram Mega Man and Doc Quick pull of some above average scores, the overall score is dragged significantly by the other Doc Robots and other lackluster bosses like Yellow Devil MK II. ------------------------- MM2 - Score : 4.075 stars (4 entries) MM2 for once doesn't scrape near the bottom. The picopico-kun laughs at the Block Devil and pushes up the overall score for MM2. Hey, things may actually be... Boobeam Trap : Hold my beer. ------------------------- MM8 - Score : 4.125 stars (4 entries) MM8's endgame bosses are pretty disappointing. Apart from Green Devil, which barely scrapes over half-decent, the other 3 bosses are below average. But at least none of them are truly awful. ------------------------- MM11 - Score : 5.9 stars (2 entries) Real shame that MM11 only has two entries on the list. While Mawverne has a good score, Yellow Devil MK III's uninspired design drags the score down. ------------------------- MM7 - Score : 5.96 stars (5 entries) Dang. MM7 was going so well with it's endgame bosses, but that BASSHOLE had to ruin everything. Twice, in fact. ------------------------- MM1 - Score : 5.97 stars (3 entries) MM1 barely beat MM7. While not having the best bosses in the list, all three of the endgame bosses share similar above average scores, creating an above average result. ------------------------- MM9 - Score : 6 stars (3 entries) MM9's endgame bosses consist of a great, a mediocre and a below average boss, making it's overall result just above average. Decent, however. ------------------------- MM10 - Score : 6.067 stars (3 entries) Despite that cursed Block Devil, MM10's score is strongly boosted by the weapons archive and the king of this entire list. ------------------------- MM4 - Score : 6.33 stars (6 entries) MM4 wins this competition with quite a decent lead. MM4 has a relatively strong set of endgame bosses, but is dragged down by some mediocre boss fights. However, the distribution is quite even, and certainly pulls it's overall score higher than it's peers. -------------------------
God bless you for doing this since this is what I REALLY wanted to learn or uncover from this phenomenal Nico list - how the classic games rank in terms of end bosses, and once again MM&B is back at the very bottom ass end of the list. How fitting.
I really wish the Dark Robots had more to do, both as bosses, and as narrative antagonists. Their designs are too cool to be borderline walking simulators. That said, I really enjoy fighting Dark Man 3, for one specific reason- Charge Kick. It’s effective to slide through the boss with it, and you can intentionally get frozen during the attack, which extends your invulnerability period, and also deals damage if he happens to touch you. Practicality is all well and good when it comes to which weapon you should use on a boss, but the most practical option isn’t always the most enjoyable. This is why I like to use awkward or even disadvantageous weapons when fighting fortress bosses.
They could have put them all into the final stage, have Proto Man shoot Dark Man 4, have a cutscene of him escaping and have him call the other 3 to fight Mega Man throughout the stage after segments. And MAKE THEM FUN.
Exactly! That’s why some I love most Wily battles. Most of the time hitting them with their weakness is harder than using the regular M Buster but if you can pull it off you do extra damage and in turn get to defeat the boss quicker.
25:22 Good to see I’m not the only one who thinks the endgame of 5 and 6 are so forgettable and blend together Also that little story on the moth boss was cute
@@NicoEvaluates alright I'm going on my laptop to copy the link. I actually went insane waiting for him to use the attack but it finally happened and I dodged like shit
When I was in like my first year of being a mega man fan I used to think that mothrya was actually an elephant, I was dumb, I am also currently playing through mega man 3 and I agree that doc wood is a pile of shit
Boo-beam trap would probably be my pick for the worst boss. Not just of the end game bosses but megaman bosses in general. Block devil is close second worst
Funny you mentioned Optimus Prime, since Metonger Z is pretty clearly a joke on a pop-culture super robot, just not Optimus. Specifically, it's pretty clearly Mazinger Z.
To answer your question, Nico: the letter "W" did used to be written as a double-u, like this. "uu" In printing presses, it was cheaper to use v's than u's because english evolved from latin and v's were more common there. Like this. "vv"
6:45 If I were making the boss I would design a background that would light up the path the blocks next would take so you know what's going to happen next. At least it would be somewhat fair.
14:15 this boss with Bass is a total nightmare. Since he can double jump, the developers removed the platform for him and it's fucking awful. You have to make a so so calculated jump for you to hit him. God, this game is a mess.
Forgot to say that Doc heat has a bug in which the ammount of flames in the scenario makes your inputs lock and delay a lot so everytime he drops the flames its almost impossible to turn back in the exact moment which makes a no damage run incredibly difficulty
You forgot to mention that you have learn Block Devil’s patterns not only normally, but BACKWARDS AND OFF BY HEART TO AVOID GETTING HIT. Talk about a joke, 10 games in and they still mess up on fortress bosses.
I’m a little surprised to see doc quick ranked so high, but good reasons given. Also, I think I’m the only one who doesn’t really care for the weapons archive all that much. Gotta say I pretty much agree with everything else. Except I might also place the turtle tank fellow from 3 a bit lower. Well done Neechkoh, you’re a mensch for doing these.
Same here. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Doc Air Man rank so high as well. However the ability to slide makes for a very tight and unique strategy against him. Too bad you couldn't slide in the original 2, otherwise his boss fight there would certainly have ranked higher but at least you can against him in MM2-GB which I think gets a bit more hate than it deserves, except for Quint who'd be below Break Man at the bottom of this list if Nico included the GB games too.
This is a year later, but I found this video today and figured I should point something out. Elec Man actually *can* jump backwards. Just like Copy Robot. That said, unlike Copy Robot, because of Elec Man having much more startup before he actually fires his Thunder Beam (due to him raising his arms), you can make this fact about him not matter whatsoever anyways.
Dumb question: Why are the Doc Robots ranked separately but the Weapons Archive are not? I was expecting to see Block Devil at the bottom, but then I remembered Boobeam Trap. And Break Man on last place made me laugh. Great video as always.
With the Doc's, there's so much wrong with each of them in different ways, whereas the Archive is solid all around, and they would have dominated the top of the list.
A good reason. Doc Robots are seperate bosses with a theme but different gimmicks. Whereas rhe Weapons Archive is seperate bosses with a theme and same gimmick. They're also all part of a stage. It's basically just 3 minibosses spread out into a stage.
Goddamnit Nico, your ability to suck hours away from my life continues. I've been waiting for this one, Endgame bosses are something that continue to suprise me in the Mega Man series and I'm very interested to see how you rank these. The effort put into these amazes me. These videos are fantastic. Also, Doc Metal and Quick are in the same stage, not Air and Quick.
Oh yeah, Break Man was technically an end game boss, huh? Well deserving of the bottom spot. It's literally the same as the other two times you fight them early on. Sure, the arena is bigger, but that's about it. Fine list as always, Nico.
1. Don't care for any of the Doc Robots or the dreadful Bubeam Trap either. 2. The MM4 bosses I find a bit underwhelming (especially that stationary Tako Trash boss that's a Wily boss for some reason). 3. MM11 Yellow Devil is, to my mind, saved and ultimately superior to the original devil due to the animation style and the extra attacks. 4. Agreed on Crab Puncher - it's fun! That's about it. I enjoyed this.
WELLDONE LIST!! Totally didn't except #1 but I thought you argued very strongly and convincingly enough for it. However it and the rest of the list made me realize how unbelievably lackluster most of the MM series end bosses really were. Hoo BOY!!!!
I feel like MM 11 retreaded so much ground because they wanted to ease people back into the swing of Classic Mega and reassure the fans that Oda wasn’t going to yank away anything they loved about Inafune’s work. Imagine if you bought a gym today; would you jack up the membership prices on your first day? Hell no, you’d scare off tons of people that were already patrons. Instead, you start out with the same ol’ same ol’, and when people gain your trust, you’re free to make baby steps towards more outward ideas
I'm surprised at how much you went in-depth about every single place on the list, considering these boss fights usually last for around half a minute. I was definitely not expecting that No.1 spot but I have to agree with it, in fact, I can agree with most of the list. The only little nitpick I have with the list is about Yellow Devil Mk.3 (11's Devil) not having any weakness as you said. He is weak to Chain Blast even if you don't use Power Gear. However, the video was top notch, as always.
36:10 theres a funny trick you can do against doc bubble 🫧 where hopping on rush jet before he lands from his first jump will cause him to stop completely since he’s programmed to wait until Megaman touches the ground before continuing to attack.
It's more about how they get used in the stages. You can make a fantastic enemy design, but if you dont use it in fitting areas than it becomes unenjoyable
The Doc Robots and Protoman fights are only lackluster because the game was rushed. If the game was given more time, the fights would have been more balanced, but remember, they were meant to be the original “first castle” enemies.
On Bliking, the vertical sections are the only ones that actually take damage. The horizontal ones are just there to annoy people who don't pay attention to the boss's health bar.
Actually, my first Mega Man game was MM3 so I didn't know who the robot masters for the Doc Robots were (actually, I thought they were robots going inside skull mech-suits, not just depicting the programming). I did know a few of them because that not so good 90s Mega Man cartoon existed, so I just made up names for them. My brilliant 4-year old mind came up with... Saw-blade Man (Metal Man) Boomerang Man (Quick Man) Crash Man (The reason I knew this one is since I saw Crash Man in an episode of that Mega Man cartoon from the 90s) Air Man (Again thanks to the cartoon) Light Man (Flash Man) Bubble Man (Guessed Right) Leaf Man (Wood Man) Lava Man (Heat Man, I didn't pick Fire Man since I already knew about the Fire Man from MM1)
Definitely lots of surprises here, but the biggest issue I have is with criticizing the Mecha Dragon platforms. You move that center platform any further to the right and I don't think you'd be safe getting knocked right from the top platform, so I definitely wouldn't change that. Also Doc Metal before Doc Quick, not Doc Air. Other than that, MM3 turtles got placed surprisingly high. And I would've put that MM8 Wily 1 boss near the bottom, but I also didn't know you could hold up when kicking the ball.
That moment when you realize we're ip to 24th place and still not a single MM1 or MM11 end boss has made it on to the list although they have the least amount both respectively. Also that moment when you realize the English letter 'w' is pronounced 'double-yoos' & not 'double-vees' yet it looks like two v's side by side. Silly English language. :p
Can someone plz do me an ENORMOUS FAVOR & time-stamp all of the times Nico hilariously goes off script and/or makes funny noises? I need this for science & things! Ok, thanx.....*BA-OOORRKK...!!* *duck quack*
I never be able to complete megaman 3 with buster only/no E tank, just because of doc woodman robot. I hate him... And if you die, it's back to the beginning of the stage...

Any idea if you'll evaluate Bloodstained 2?
As an American I was always concerned about that whole double-u / double -v thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
The added value of Break Man in 3 is that you get a cool mug shot of him. That was a cool touch, more so than the fight itself.
38:22 It's because door screen transitions are activated when you reach the last block on the right, and not only the door tiles can activate screen transitions as they're just regular solid tiles that are animated when the screen transition is triggered. 46:50 You mean Doc Metal? Doc Air is in Needle man's stage revisit.
Way to make Green Jello Devil seem totally uncool, Nico!! ;_;
25:01 it rweminds me of the dedede destoryer z but it has treds and no hammer or rockets and got a worse lazer and no kirby clones
Do a list of best mini or mid bosses. Would be fun
I prefer Mega Man 11 Yellow Devil because you don't need a glitch to speed up the fight to not last hours for how little damage you do
You just encouraged me to learn the Block Devil pattern for real.
Well, that was an unexpected Number 1. Makes sense, though.
It appears I need to drop everything to watch this
I hate the Doc Robots so much
Take the good paterns (for the most part) of Mega Man 2 and make them bigger, stronger, buggier and fucking unfair
Do a BEST Megaman enemies next (Sniper Joes, Mets, etc)
It's more about how they get used in the stages. You can make a fantastic enemy design, but if you dont use it in fitting areas than it becomes unenjoyable
Here we f*cking go. I'm hyped.
The Doc Robots and Protoman fights are only lackluster because the game was rushed. If the game was given more time, the fights would have been more balanced, but remember, they were meant to be the original “first castle” enemies.
FUCK
i love your opening XD
"HEEEEELLO People, and welcome to another list - that NO BODY will agree on" XD
FUCK Thats comedy!!!
Saw-blade Man (Metal Man)
Boomerang Man (Quick Man)
Crash Man (The reason I knew this one is since I saw Crash Man in an episode of that Mega Man cartoon from the 90s)
Air Man (Again thanks to the cartoon)
Light Man (Flash Man)
Bubble Man (Guessed Right)
Leaf Man (Wood Man)
Lava Man (Heat Man, I didn't pick Fire Man since I already knew about the Fire Man from MM1)
Sad to see my boi MM8 Bass so low on the list. Still, pretty great list
Cool list, when are you going to do minibosses and endgame stages?
8:40
yellow devil bosses are all somewhere near the bottom, i feel it
Noco Oborguates Boss list? I love this
:0
Definitely lots of surprises here, but the biggest issue I have is with criticizing the Mecha Dragon platforms. You move that center platform any further to the right and I don't think you'd be safe getting knocked right from the top platform, so I definitely wouldn't change that. Also Doc Metal before Doc Quick, not Doc Air. Other than that, MM3 turtles got placed surprisingly high. And I would've put that MM8 Wily 1 boss near the bottom, but I also didn't know you could hold up when kicking the ball.
Depends on the amount of lag on mecha dragon, on long you'll be airborne.
Do all minn bosses
1:00:15 ok Shayne Dawson
That moment when you realize we're ip to 24th place and still not a single MM1 or MM11 end boss has made it on to the list although they have the least amount both respectively. Also that moment when you realize the English letter 'w' is pronounced 'double-yoos' & not 'double-vees' yet it looks like two v's side by side. Silly English language. :p
Could you plausibly do the end-game Dr. Wily fights and capsules?
Me after watching the video: I don't think he enjoyed a single boss until he got to the top 13 that's a shame.
TIL that you can punch the platforms towards the Mechasaurus to deal damage to it.39:42
Great vid, man! Also, any chance you'll do an updated version of the weapons ranking to add Megaman 11?
I like how you didn’t edit out the Cockroach Twins part.
Nice video
At least block devil is good at its job
Can someone plz do me an ENORMOUS FAVOR & time-stamp all of the times Nico hilariously goes off script and/or makes funny noises? I need this for science & things! Ok, thanx.....*BA-OOORRKK...!!* *duck quack*
You've reached the end of programming, would you like to play again? You've selected... NO
I really disagree on your opinion on the block devil. He works like every single devil: learn it and it become easy
Next is all final bosses forms rated?
good list
Before I watch it, here are my guesses for the bottom 4:
Dark man 1
Dark man 2
Dark man 3
Dark man 4
Tank Man
Walk Man
Why not give him a Bazooka!? He has an arm cannon for one Man
Red Man
@@randomguyontheinternet7940 Method Man
Mostly agree, but disagree with your Block Devil interpretation. I think it's a pretty easy boss with pretty enjoyable combat mechanics.
Green devil actually does do the throw pieces attack the other devils do but its slow and he hardly ever does it
Dude, your videos are too high quality to have so little views!
Nice list as always. How about make best Wily bosses list?
Any tips on how to make a Mega man style game on Godot engine the same engine as MM Rock and roll
top soundtracks list?
YOO another list im so happy
That Top Spin trick... does that work against Shadow Man?
Yes and No, the Robot Masters have I-frames so it's not as effective as it be on Holo-Rock or Gamma Phase 2.
Nico doc air is in needle with doc crash. doc metal is in spark with doc quick
I never be able to complete megaman 3 with buster only/no E tank, just because of doc woodman robot. I hate him... And if you die, it's back to the beginning of the stage...
