If you live in the states, these things are very rare and very expensive. Lucky to get one at all.
So I’ve heard do you know what they are going for? Up here in Canada around $1000-$1500
@@canadianclassics i just paid $3300 for my 1940 mint condition one. *Crying noises*
@@AR_119 wow… just shows where our market is likely heading maybe I’ll have to pick up a couple more
@@canadianclassics for sure do. You cant even find them here let alone for anything under $3k. We do have a TON of AKs though. Just wish i could get a type 81 hahaha.
@@AR_119 we also have AKs but only valmet variants and they start at 6k lol I’d take a regular ak over a type 81 any day your not missing anything
Id love to get one of these not paying $2500 though. I’m think $700 is what this should sell for max.
Where did you buy the svt40 in Canada ?
Wow, that stock doe.... what a beauty!
Yes! Haha almost looks like totalboat varnish but I love it; very robust
the sniper variants also had a rounded cut out in the back end of the receiver to lock the optic mount in place. this is just your typical early model svt-40 .the cut out rails was seen as too much work towards the end of the war so they cut corners like many other things on the later models
I remember almost getting a $400 one but college student life prevented me from getting it… funny how much the prices shot up!
Geez I wonder if you’d put your whole college tuition towards Svt40s back then what they’d be worth now lol
Similar story here. At least I got my SKS’s for $180.
I pissed around staring at it for ages, one day after playing some COD: WAW I decided enough was enough and drove to the city to get one. Not long after, they began to dry up and climbed to $600 a piece... the rest is history. Mine may not be a really nice rifle, it's a bit of a mis-match mutt but it's worth every cent of $400.
Where? @@adamg574
It's a beautiful rifle.. I enjoy my Mosin and SKS.. I hope I can find one of these earlier models.. its gonna be pricey though.. the way everything has JUMPED OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS
I would also say after digging through Russian forums, this is the info that I got:
-If you see 2 cutouts on both sides of the stock for the safety, this is an AVT-40 stock. AVT-40 is more durable that the SVT-40. After a while, AVT-40's were all converted to semi-auto fire only due to reliability issues and durability.
-The top of the trunion will have an emblem stamped. Different emblems will show different factories that built it.
For example:
Star with an arrow - Izhmash
Star - Tula, later it was Podolsk
Why do your informative videos get 1/100th the views of your shorts? This is a great video, straight to the point and says what it needs to.
These are still readily available in finland for sub 500 euros, im really considering one
That’s crazy I’d definitely buy another one if they were that cheap here
GD that's a good looking rifle
I'm a bit confused you show your rifle and every comparison you explain goes Earlier Model/Later Mode, then pictures of each feature your rifle with Earlier Features (Scope rails, Trigger guard, Safety Lever, Sight groove, Sling Rings and Muzzle Brake), But then you Say Barrel shrouds are Early 8 hole/Later 7 hole and show your rifle with 7 holes. Has your Shroud been replaced or is your rife not Early? or is early/late supposed to be 7/8 instead of 8/7 or what???????
I have a 1941 Finnish capture marked [SA] Izzy. I took an antelope in my home state of Wyoming at 448 yards. 2 mule deer both under 100 yards and a cow elk at 78 yards. Several coyotes and lost count of the prairie dogs. Mine has the larger Finnish mod gas port and it functions every time without issue. I love it!
Where’s your cleaning rod?
Nice gun got some of them already
lovely svt 40 . Did you refinish the stock and if so what did you use ? Nice vid , thanks .
No it came like that when I bought it and thanks 🙏🏼
I really love the finish on your SVT, did you got that way or you had it refined?
I got it like this I’m not sure who refinished it but I also obviously love the finish it’s probably my favourite milsurp

Me: Coupons
I had one once, would like to have one again. It digested old Russian ammo flawlessly.
Most helpful. Suggest that the comparission give us 10 seconds not one.
My God it's beautiful 😍
My favourite
@@canadianclassics I've watched a few of your vids before and saw this beauty and thought... I wish w could get Canada to export all the goodies to the U.S but sadly your country won't 😭
It was nice when these were $250 in Ontario Canada, i picked 2 up in 2014ish 1 with scope rails and 1 without
I got mine with a case of ammo and if bought together it was 450, 250 for ammo 200 for rifle
Легендарная винтовка. И очень красивая. К тому же технически совершенная для своего времени.
thing is gorgeous
Даже новой она так не блестела )
Mine is a 1942 date-stamp. it's obviously been refinished because it has an earlier stock and 6-port muzzle break and 8-port shroud.
Вот сколько посмотрел похожих видео и сильно стал завидовать американским людям. Вот где свободная страна. Не "сдавайте" её сраным маразматикам и левакам
I paid $1200 for mine 2 years ago in the States.
That's exactly the same as I paid for mine just a few months ago. Paid 13000 Norwegian Kroner for mine, that's the same as 1200 Dollars. But they are worth it, very nice rifles.
The slots in the stock cut for a sling has no bearing if it’s an early Svt or later svt. The Russian navy had the stocks cut like the Mosin for their own slings, they didn’t use sling swivels.
How did you refinish the stock? I’d love to have mine look like this and am refinishing it soon.
Later model is post war model?
early model ww2 type?
Sick! Howd you do stock? Total boat or qhat type ?
that stock is gorgeous
That stock finish tho....
Interesting 🤔 ... Wife had some left over firearms from past husband of thirty years.. Other family members were present, so I didn't show any interest when the garage safe door opened. I quickly wispered to wife in not giving any of those old firearms to family. She sold some to Cabela's for a fair price. However, Old Tommy (Ex) owned a near mint 1945 SVT and SKS . The SVT rifle bore is in somewhat sad condition from sitting 30 years in garage storage safe, but the rifle has all matching numbers. Good call in me holding on to SVT .. 😊
Mantap
Picking one up Saturday. Pretty optimistic considering it's probably gonna be banned in the next few months if this ban follows through. :(
I want this but cant buy due to law in my country. Here only few people have M1 similar action to this, but those are modified by 3 holes in gas tube.
That wood furnishing is extremely well polished and it looks soooo good
Holy shit, I always knew to watch for the muzzle brake holes, I didn't know the late models don't have a hole in the safety! It also never occurred to me that later model SVT's had a cut out for the sling in the stock on the late models. Gotta say, it may be minor stuff but I'm kind of happy to own an early model, I thought the brake looked cooler, it's harder to clean but I love the look of the 6 port, and I have to admit I prefer the rear sling loop.
How does that stock look so amazing? Serious question.
👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Does yours have any movement at all at the back of the receiver and the stock? Mine wiggles ever so slightly which has me worried. Might just be a loose stock but idk.
whats better for wood on guns? Wax or polyurethane?
reading the comments got one yesterday for for 2k and change state side only 2nd one i have seen in person in a store
2 words !
So
Beautiful !
Good turnaround ! Thanks
Good Lawd That stock is insane.
I love the stock. Very nice.
Really intresting weapon
Wish me had more in the U.S sweet piece
You ever wanna sell that let me know!
😃
Good luck finding one…
where can i buy svt
“Earlier models have a groove cut into the site… later models have a flush center.” The groove you’re showing is a 1941, the flush center is a 1940. That theory falls apart.
Or the sights could’ve been swapped
Мороз да?))
Beautiful gun!
I take it that the early models are more desirable? I wish I had of bought one of these when they could be had at Canadian Tire for cheap. Can’t believe what they’re going for now.
Slightly I think. The SVT seems to kind of carry its price regardless of the model, I'd say how close it is to matching, which arsenal and how nice it is affect value more. Some people try to pass the early ones off as sniper variants simply because they have a rail, though, and try to charge through the nose.
Yeah
I just inherited a early model svt40 but i dont have any mags for it and i cant find any. Do you know of a website or place I can buy any? Ive already hit two gun shows this year with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont care if there steel or p-mags.
There’s a bunch in Canada search northern republic magazine they go for about $100
@@canadianclassics thanks man I will check them out. Those guns are super rare in the states and parts are extremely expensive.
At the current price pt of svt 40 in Canada, it is hard to justify getting it
Yes and no if the current semi auto ban stays in place this is one of the cheapest bigger calibre semi auto rifles you can get not to mention it’s beautiful and has significant history attached to it also they are going for $3,000 USD in the states so it shows where our market is likely heading you can’t afford not to pick one up now before they get to those prices
@@canadianclassics fair pt
Hello 👋 🫂 please can you tell me about the price of these rifle please
Can you explain further why the 4 port is less desirable than the 6 port?
Much more expensive to manufacture a 6 port
6 ports were used on earlier models only
6 ports look better and some argue work better
@@canadianclassics I heard that the 6 port is 40 percent more effective at handling recoil than the 4 port. That's a disadvantage to me however because one of the main reasons I bought an SVT was because I wanted to feel that hard kick from the 7.62x54R. however I've been told that the six port is much louder than the four port and more often launches huge fireballs. Decisions decisions.....
@@guyfoxhimself3102 I sadly don't have any time on a 4 port, I would love to check out the difference but I can attest to having shot, and standing beside my buddy shooting mine, the shockwave the 6 port throws out to the side is incredible. It almost feels like a bubble bursting out around you, you really feel it standing next to it.
You got Instagram bro?
I do but I honestly don’t use it like I should lol I’ll likely start posting more on there in the future it’s the same as my UA-cam name
Is that 10 rounds?
It’s a 10 round mag but can only hold 5 rounds that’s the basic rule here in Canada for semi autos over .22
