Correction to the info he has on the gas piston and gas adjustment: Adjustment is done with the issued wrench that fits over the front end of the gas regulator and does not require removing parts. Only time you'll need to remove those parts is for cleaning. Rotating the gas piston like he does is a way to remove it from the rifle. I'm late to the video, but I hope this helps people who may be new to the rifle.
I bought an SKS collector's guide book on Amazon. Encompassing extremely comprehensive info on every variant and production detail, it contained blueprints for every part and assembly of the gun. You could make a precise replica from that data, it was that thorough. I mention it in one of my videos. Wouldn't be surprised if a similar book exists for the SVT, as tgey are nearly identical guns.
Well techically, it has more or less the same firing cycle with the SKS later in mid 1940's and later with the legendary AK47 , the similarities of the barrel with the gas operated piston are striking
I had one of these most excellent rifles. It was my main pig hunting rifle - and it was fantastic! Fast and accurate - it was great. I regret selling it. Although now in NZ it would have been confiscated by the government .
I like how you make your videos, not too long, all the important stuff in a snack sized portion. Those longer videos others have get a bit boring to watch. Keep it up!
@@big_nasty533 That's about how much they tend to run in the US. In Canada, they're only about $400. It depends on how much you want it. You could be patient and hope to find one cheaper some day.
This was supposed to be the standard red army rifle . but the germans invaded in 1941 so they went back to the mosin nagant because its a easier rifle to make and maintain and shoot.
The "Russian" Military ceased to exist with the dissolution of Russia in 1918. The SVD 40 is a Soviet Army rifle. Most of the SVD40 Rifles exported to North America were Finnish captured trophy's which Finland sold off.
Couple things with this weapon 1 it was only issed to experanced troops usually elite assault troops and 2 they would set the gas port to high or 1 notch from it and run it there that would over gas it and it would run "better" that way at the expensive of parts durabality but the soldiers life span was shorter than the guns life so
The one thing I took away from this video was an overuse of the word "but". Try not to use it as a placeholder when speaking. It makes it seem as if you're negating everything said directly before the word "but". Combined with how much it was used, it doesn't help your presentation of facts at all.
Referring to the actions of the state from the 1917 Jewish Bolshevik takeover until ~2014, it is objectively incorrect and inappropriate to use the word "Russian", as the state, military, etc were not run by Russians. The Soviet Union ruled over Russia (as well as many other republics and peoples) but the rulers were not Russians, nor did they rule in the interests of Russians.
Worst rifle ever. Flimsy, poorly made and extremely difficult to field strip. I got rid of mine quickly. It was the worst surplus rifle that I ever bought.
Have to say, I really appreciate the From the Vault episodes with a little bit of historical background and the look at the internals, as done here.
That's a beautiful peace of history thanks for sharing.
I was thinking that Brownells was releasing a recreation of the SVT.
That would be awesome
Notice the flex of the entire rifle when being fired. This thing must have absolutely rattled itself apart on the full auto AVT.
very cool!

You are correct
If the wrench didn’t come with my rifle, where can I get one?
🤔
👍
This is the most wholesome look at a mil-surp rifle I've ever seen...bravo! :-D
It's not entirely dissimilar to the SKS. Beautiful weapon!
Someone should start creating the files neccessary to machine these old guns so people can get their hands on them forever.

One of the few semi-automatic rifles that have a good kick/power!
Thank you! I needed this video
This beauty was already on my wishlist
The SVT has always been a favorite, nice video. Is that aluminum rifle "stand" available at Brownells?
Terrific Video :) Thanks very much

Love my 43 SVT 40

Great Rifle As The AVT-40 Variant Was One Of My Favorite Select Fire Rifles In 7.62x54R Caliber 😀😊😀
Thanks

I wish they weren't so expensive and rare in the US. Stupid sanctions!
John Rildo one by me is $1200. What do you think?

Theres a rumor going around that trump may get rid of the import bans
He better worry about keeping his ass out of the crowbar hotel.
I had one.Its was very accurate.
I know I'm late to the video but my father has one that was a finish capture. Haven't been able to shoot it yet tho!

It did show up a little bit more later in the wat.
Great
How much are they worth/cost?
FYI, that's not the correct sling for that rifle, but the rest of the video is on point!
Ivan Ivanovich I’m sure if you send him the correct one, he will replace the current sling.
@@southernfried769 if I can find one, I absolutely will ☺
Wasn't getting on his case, just to be clear. I was more stating it just for the record.
Do you need a special tool to adjust the gas settings? 🤔
Always wanted one of these. I just don't know where to find them (If they're even legal anymore).

I have a SVT-40 Carbine. If there is no such thing, then I have one someone cut down. Have you ever heard of a short SVT-40? Anything you can tell me?

Yep,,echo the other comments I gotta get me one... found one the other day for 850$can..I’m thinking this is a very good price ?
Top shelve
Very good video bought mine years back only paid like $200 bucks it will be passed down to my family members love shooting it!
Same. I bought one for $200 at a gun show in the early 90s. Bright shiny bore, beautiful condition. All matching numbers except the magazine.
My wife hates Brownells! :-P
But loves the milk man?
does anyone know who first invented the short stroke gas sytem?
Probably someone of French descent
Looks like the AVS-36 was the first rifle to enter service with it. Then the SVT-38.

Main reason it was given to specific troops is because of training requirements. The average grunt would not have been able to maintain this.
How much one in good shape like yours
In canada around 2000 canadian
My Tokarev rifle would string its shots horizontally. Weirdest thing.
Barrel heat up.
Anyone ever have this gun shoot full auto
nice SKS!
Где вы видите СКС?
That recoil looks mild.
Mike G the muzzle break works well. Just make sure u have your ears in when you shoot!
dang, that accent is thick :D
