    Good job Sir. It's good to see younger people interested in these rifles. Most people don't know the back ground on them. I do commend you for your work on this project. I will add to your work on this that there were 3 manufactures of the svt with the Podulsk factory only producing them for 10 months in 1940 crossing over to 1941 until they were told to change making anti-aircraft guns Also, in 1940 and 1941 there were a certain amounts svt's that did not have any type of rails on the sides. FYI.

    The Fedorov model 1:16 is not a semi-automatic rifle because it is an assault rifle with all the functions of an assault rifle: 1) switching shooting, it is: semi-automatic and fully automatic: 2) Removable magazine. 3) lightweight cartridge (which will become an intermediate cartridge in the future)

    • @spac3fr0g
      @spac3fr0g 6 місяців тому +1

      even though the magazine was removable, it was intended to be loaded with stripper clips, as seen by the clip guide on the bolt, and I really wouldn't call the 6.5 an intermediate cartridge, it's lighter than other rifle rounds but still is a rifle round

    Nice video, I live in Canada and we have good access to old Soviet rifles. I own a SVT40 and it is an extremely noisy rifle! Nice to shoot and easy recoil because of the muzzle brake, but a super loud rifle. It is a pretty light rifle (by design no heavier than the Mosin it replaced) it is almost too light ... the fully automatic AVT-40 would have self-destructed within a few magazines output! Really cool gun tho!

    Even soldiers of low combat training such as the SS recognized the advantage in firepower the SVT-40 offered when ammo was available instead of their obsolete bolt actions.

  • @roscoegadsdenshighcapacity7218

    Pal (that's how we say "mate" here)..... that was a great info-dump on the SVT. We are fortunate to live where we can have one that is not deactivated. Ours looks great on the outside but the barrel is, as we say here, "TOAST" on the inside! As in, lucky to put them all in a foot at 100Y. If only we could trade barrels, we need one that is not horribly rusted inside and yours only has to look good from the outside! Anyway it is a fascinating rifle and when we compare it to the US M1 Garand, we can only say, the SVT 40 is better if only we could get rid of the muzzle brake and the intolerable extra length and noise it brings. The Garand's internal mag cannot be "topped off". Only have two round left? You pretty much have to fire them before you can reload. The SVT, just swap mags and top off the low one at convenience.
    That was an info-rich video given that you could not shoot it. My fellow Americans, don't let that happen here. If you think they are only coming for AR's and AK's, you are very, very mistaken. Good job Iron Bloke!

    Great video and topic about the Russian semi-automatic rifle SVT-40, those 3 months have been worth it making this video, keep on going. With the pros and cons (what every weapon has), I think the SVT-40 is a beautiful and interesting weapon and very well made for Russian concepts. Can you make a similar video about, for example, the German G43 or the American Garand M1.

  • @gratius1394
    @gratius1394 3 роки тому +2

    Video is good and well researched although I can't agree with all of its conclusions. SVTs "fall from grace" had less to do wtih preferences of the soldiers and more with changing combat environment and general need of replacing ever greater losses suffered by the Red Army. Rearming the infantry with SMGs and bolt action rifles had its own merits, it not only increased its available close range firepower with limited loss of long range capabilites but also made replenishing losses cheaper . Morover, close quarters combat turned out to be far more common than previously anticipated, therefore troops equipped with something like PPSh-41 or PPS-43 had distinct advantage over opponents armed with more conventional firearms, like bolt action and self-loading rifles. For example, in the Pacific Theater we can observe a similar trend of replacing full powered semi automatic M1 Garand rifles with M1 Carabines as more practical choice and I doubt that such change would be interpreted as an evidence of inherent flaws of M1 Garand's design.

    • @ironbloke24pz

    It's great fun to run Mags thru, and on occasion it will Hang Up, but mine isn't nearly as bad about it as I've heard others are. I like it just because of what it is, and the accuracy doesn't Suck Either.
