This is what happens when talent and genius meet musicality. Nothing like mid-1960s through early '70s music.

Art Garfunkel is the taller. His solos are like an angel. Paul Simon, the little one. Very deep lyricist and music writer. He is a genius. Art is always timeless and relevant. 1967 was written

It was written sometime before March 1964. Simon & Garfunkel recorded the original, acoustic version March 10, 1964 & released it Oct. 1964, on their 1st album, Wednesday Morning, 3am. In June 1965, the original version was overdubbed with electric guitars, bass guitar & a drum kit (this version) & re-released Jan. 1966, on their 2nd album, Sounds of Silence.

Beautiful dark timeless lyrics. Forever relevant because it speaks to the human condition... the soul. This is the version I grew up with. The only version for me. Nothing else comes close. This came out in the '60s by the way. Check out their "Scarborough Fair" next. Some of the most beautiful harmonies you'll ever hear.

They had so much great music, Paul Simon is a musical genius, and his lyrics are second to only Bob Dylan. Art Garfunkel had the voice of an angel. They were magic together on every song on every album. Paul Simon's solo work is amazing, as well.

@@lisasmithline1386 i used to sing their vocals one at a time. So three times for one song. I did it because it was fun. But it happened to be good vocal practice too. I was a kid when I did that but continued into my old age. Just for fun!

Rock and roll music lyrics, given all the different genres, were written to make you think. And everyone that hears them interpret them differently. This is why rock and roll, to me, can never be overcome. Simon & Garfunkel were true artists of their time. And like time, it is endless.

Simon and Garfunkel wrote and performed this song decades before Disturbed covered it and popularized an angry version of it. But younger people today never heard of Simon and Garfunkel and assume that Disturbed wrote it. It is said that this original version sounded a warning, but Disturbed expresses rage that the warning was not heeded.

A song from the 1960s. By which I mean, the 60's influenced everything that came after, music wise. And the 60's were a result of the music that came before them, inspiring them to take it further. It is an amazing rock and roll journey.
