    I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Kathy's Song", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.

    Ahhh, I remember this song so well. I remember in high school my English teacher had the entire class listen to the song and then discuss and interpret the lyrics. I did the same with my daughter years later because the social environment still applies to this day.

    My husband told me the story behind the Sound of Silence. Garfunkel wrote this song after watching his friend who became blind while in college, struggle to get on the subway. He was trying to convince his friend to go back to school after he was a hermit. The entire time his friend was struggling to get on the subway, Garfunkel was there the entire time, but the friend just couldn't hear his voice. Knowing the backstory really makes me listen to this song much differently.

      Simon wrote this, as he did all their songs. It was about Garfunkel’s friend though.

    Thank you. My musical references are from the 55-75 when I went from 8-28. The most beautiful 20 years of memorable music. I still enjoy some music today, especially the women singer songwriters like Lara Fabian, Brandi Carlile, Taylor Swift , Sara Bareilles and Kelly Clarkson. They are pioneers in the industry.
    Please react to Homeward Bound by them. I moved away from home. And that song always brought me comfort when I would take trips home.

    ... er,1960s. Song was written in 1964. This version was released in September 1965. The song title is 'The Sound of Silence'. Singular 'Sound'. This album was titled 'The Sounds of Silence'. The song was also on their previous album (debut) 'Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.'

    I am 62 and was only 3 or 4 when this came out. I don’t remember what age I was when I first heard it but remember it stopping me dead in my tracks and thinking it was beautiful.

    Wonderful reaction. It was written in the mid-sixties, actually. What is amazing to me is the incredible poetic lyrics by Paul Simon.

    early 60s hippy era started but was kinda after mid 60s early 70s when you knew you really were in that era...hippies everywhere... was a cool time. . . cool music...heard this first in New Zealand where I'm from, my older brothers were in record clubs and got LPs sent to them...so we always had great music on tap...stereo maxed out so ya neighbors could join in...and they did

    nice reaction guys… simon & garfunkel were mid to late 60’s and before my time but my parents had various LPs of theirs. i actually got into them much later while watching a rerun of “the graduate” in my mid 20s. their music incl this song is heavily ingrained all throughout the movie. best word to describe their sound is “melancholy”. this song is great but my favorite by them is by far “scarborough fair”. if you want to get even more of that 60s/70s vibe, i would recommend reacting to the carpenters. “superstar” and “rainy days and mondays” are my favorites. her deeply soulful voice is amazing and one of the few like haley reinhart that really gets to me… take care 😎

    It was written in the 60s. A truly visionary song and absolutely relevant today. The Sounds of Silence impact people more now than ever. Have a listen to The Boxer by them. ❤

    In the late 60s/early 70s, when I was stationed at Reese Air Force Base, this was my go-to song that I'd sing, out loud, while riding my BMW motorcycle back from Lubbock, TX to the base. There was nothing else on that 10 mile stretch of highway except cotton fields and a wide open, starry sky. It was the perfect "chill" song for that solo ride.

    Hello mike and jess here the song was released 1965 n stayed in the seventies my childhood had a revival at the concert in centralpark new york where half a million people attended , i'll take you to a personal story my mom with alzheimer's in the nursing home behind the steel fence deserted streets during the pandemic, she didn't understand had flashbacks of the second world war , until we sang the sound of silince together from my phone a few weeks later I took her out of the nursing home and cared for her at home she's two now years dead ,i am writing this to outline that this has become the most important memory which made all my hippie soul happening to simon and garfunkel fade ..{nu dimashdear}

    Paul Simon wrote it, and they sing it Exactly how it should be sung! As forcthe lyrics. I always associate the 'people talking without speaking' is a definite precursor to texting!! Did Paul Simon have a time machine lol

    As excellent as this song is, growing up in the 60's & 70's--- there were SO many great songs & SO many great groups that even this one blended in with them. It was among Elvis, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Mama's & the Papa's, the Beatles, the Righteous Brothers, the Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, the Animals, Jimi Hendrix, etc. You missed out on a FANTASTIC generation! The BEST generation for music! Post WW2, the Hippies, Viet Nam war, De-Segregation & Martin Luther King Jr. all contributed. Keep up the great reactions!

    The early 60s, not the 70s. Also Psychodelia was the 60s. You’ve got your eras confused.
