Unless the exterior is completely waterproof, which I doubt it is by the condition of it. That interior is going to trap moisture. You need to waterproof and put siding on the exterior or that insulation is going to get wet and moldy.
Cool space, love the polycarbonate panels and so much bigger without the overhead loft space! I never thought to cut insulation in half and then add back to a full piece! Now I won't be wasting insulation. I got done 15" wide ceiling insulation that I'm removing and now will be installing it in garage walls that are 24" wide. I'm an arm chair wood worker without a place to wood work. Being a truck driver is also hard to bring a wood worker too. I'll be looking forward to part 2!
The inside transformation was great, but I was really impressed at how just wetting that sheet of plywood caused it to almost go back flat and were it was supposed to be!
I'm not sure if you read every comment, but I wanted to say, you filmed/showed all the best parts and I love what you've done here. Please show more of this project in the future so I can live vicariously through you.
Looking good, that was a big improvement. It is a "shed" and you are in the desert but the batt insulation isn't meant to be directly against the roof sheathing. It can create mold and rot the roof sheathing. When you replace the roofing material, pull the sheathing off and add a layer of rigid foam insulation in each bay on top of the batt insulation
Awesome video man. Great work. I did a mixture of drywall and insulation for 3 years. I would recommend for future insulation work, use a snap blade knife. Much easier to cut through the batts and just treat those whole blades as a one utility blade rather than snapping them off. Also yeah, would of been nice to use something thicker like R19 for those walls but o well, at point you'd be condensing the batts so much it'd defeat their purpose.
Self leveling concrete is so simple and convenient to use! I wish more people would feel like they can use it to smooth out garage, bathroom, or entry floors.
I hate it, I hate it!!! Something this big and this nice just makes me GREEN with envy. I don't have a big enough yard for anything that size, but sure wish I did after seeing this great project. You did good work. I'm proud of you.
I'm going to suggest some vertical support for that 4X6 beam that you want to use to hold a chain hoist. Even if it's only a couple of pieces of 2X4. If not, you are dependent on those brackets.
Protip for cutting insulation in 1-2 passes. Press a 2x4 across the insulation and cut along the edge. The board will flatten the insulation making it easier to cut without the blade pulling it apart.
Keeping that rustic look on the outside of the shed also keeps the attention away from city inspectors. When you tear off exterior surfaces they get very inquisitive.
For anyone new to bull floats, you’re supposed to drag the concrete, twist the float, and push it again to go back over the concrete. Yucca bond or just some plain water as a lubricant for the float. With a little practice you can almost achieve a class A finish.
I think you should put a new drip edge on your eave extension. That will help prevent any water from running back and getting behind the polycarbonate,
This looks great. I wonder how it would look/feel if you were able to do the window around the entire workshop--not just the at one side. This is going to be awesome when it's all done
MIKE MIKE MIKE!!!! what day is it??? Dude i have been watching your vids for years, this is hands down the best thing that you have ever made. As a concrete guy ... i’mma go ahead and say “not a bad first time concrete job there ... not great ... but good is good enough ... meh it’ll do. Superb restoration guys. Genuinely fun job. I’d’ve weather proofed that exterior though...budget allowing.
I was taught when I was an apprentice plumber to take dust from the concrete after you got it filled in and you're ready to smooth it out and spread it over the wet concrete to give it a more even smooth finish.
Although I do like the rustic look of the exterior, I gotta say it would look super cool if you painted the outside a bold color to go with your Art Deco theme
I’m so glad you did the finish trim. It just cleaned up all your hard work you put into the shed. Can’t wait to see the next steps in the project. Karen Florida
Really cool. Hey, I think you should paint that central beam a striking colour. Like, a postbox red or something. It'll make it look really intentional.
Very impressed with the transformation, even just at this concrete and plywood stage. Always nice to have a bro to help, too. :) Looking forward to watching the rest of these.
I know the all-plywood look is trendy right now, but I think painting the ceiling white would really brighten up the space and help make the most of the windows!
I was very excited to see this shop building series. Looking very well so far Mike. Can't wait to see next videos. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God Bless.

Really nice job! I believe I have some serious shed envy. I recommend some kind of siding on the outside that will be no maintenance for years. I cannot tell if you already have t1-11 on there but it appears that you may only have cdx ply... which is great for sheathing but with no paint, the weather... such as it is will eventually destroy it. I know the sun does a number on anything, including paint but it will stave off a lot of badness, especially if you paint it with something a bit reflective and sun resistant will give you better performance in the summer heat. I look forward to your next episode on this project. New subscriber!
Silcone caulk all the plywood seams on exterior to save your new insulation. Eventually need to replace exterior and either house wrap or at least tar paper between the 2 👍
GOOD JOB!!! Next time: when finishing concrete, use more water. It will prevent the mix from drying up so fast and will give you a smoother finish. Rent a saw to cut an expansion joint down the middle of your floor to prevent cracking. Love your channel bro.

I know nothing about anything you post, but your videos are pure therapy. So calming to watch it all come together haha

I have been watching Scott Brown for a while now and his projects from a year ago with the plywood wear amazing, I'm sooo happy you shouted him out.

Why not run all your writing for lighting, air compressor lines, etc before insulation and “drywall”?
I want to run it in conduit so it'll be easy to change or move outlets and lights in the future.

Nice work. I would be worried about water penetration into the insulation though
That would require it to rain in southern California

Amazing work. For a guy who specializes in gorgeous and detailed furniture, that was a great job. Wetting that sheet was da bomb.
If you put a chain fall on that beam, you should probably put posts under both ends. It may pull down with just joist hangers holding it up.
