    I’ve been looking for weeks for an idea of how to install lattice on a deck that has the feet set back underneath like yours. This is a great idea, thank you Sir!

    I’m glad I found your channel, I just finished the railing on my deck, and attaching lattice is my next step. This video was uploaded just in time for me to learn a couple things.

    Hey Basa Pete! Thanks for the video and advice. I'm wondering what you did around that corner where the footing sticks out. That's a question I'm facing. I've thought about popping out the frame so that the lattice covers the footing. Is there a smarter way?

      Thank you for your comment.
      I boarded around the concrete footing and left it exposed. The post sticks out too far to do anything else.
      If the post is only sticking out a 1/2 inch or so, I'd pop out the lattice as you suggested. You may consider cutting the side of the post down with a grinder and a concrete cutting blade.

    Nice video! I have a pressure treated deck and I want to install a vinyl lattice. I like the trim idea you have here. Can I use pressure treated wood as trim for vinyl lattice?

    • @BasaPete
      @BasaPete  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for your comment.
      I don't see any reason why you can't use wood trim for vinyl lattice.

    Do you have plans to install lattice under steps. If so can you create a video

      No plans to install lattice under steps. But if I do, it will be attached to the sides of the steps.

    Is the lattice privacy lattice with 1 3/4" holes? Thanks.

      Thanks for the question.
      The lattice is 1-7/8" privacy lattice.

    I am about to DIY my deck skirting. This is helpful! Did you secure the wood panel toward the ground or just hang it in there with just screws on the top.

    • @BasaPete
      @BasaPete  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your comment.
      No need to secure the wood panel to the ground. Attaching the panel to the rim joist or beam is sufficient.

    Is pre-drilling necessary? Will the deck screws break the board if not pre-drilled?

    • @BasaPete
      @BasaPete  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your question.
      Yes, pre-drilling helps prevent the deck boards from splitting at the ends. Some types of wood (hemlock, ponderosa pine, etc...) are prone to splitting, pre-drilling really helps.

    Why did you use roof and siding screws at the bottom and screws with finishing washers at the top?

    • @BasaPete
      @BasaPete  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your question.
      The roof and siding screws have built-in washers, which are needed to hold lattice securely. Plus they are in behind and not visible.
      The screws with finishing washers are also needed to hold lattice securely. They are out front and quite visible. The finish washers make a nice-looking job.

      Also, decking and the right siding screws will not bleed onto your wood when wet. . I had cedar installed and bought the right decking g screws for him to use, yet in some areas he choose to ( be lazy) I guess and grab whatever was handy. I have staining on some boards now. Pretty pissed I didn't look it over more closely and have him remove those.

  • @aupshaw305

    why do you use the different type screws?

    • @BasaPete
      @BasaPete  4 роки тому

      Thank you for your comment.
      The bugle-headed deck screws were used on the facing side of the board because of their appearance. They look good.
      The hex-head metal roofing screws were used on the back of the board because of their length, 1" long, a longer screw would have poked out through the facing side of the board. I couldn't find a 1" or less deck screw.

    should retreat your cuts on P.T. boards. could have 45 the top vertical, so they dont stick out past your deck boards collecting moister
