Hey brother, another class video, but speaking from 20+ years in law enforcement you still have to worry about the real threat of wearing that armor, be it soft or plate and once you take a careful look at it you will see the most vulnerable place is your brachial plexus area in the front of the set up and the armpit region. Most officers killed are do to the round being fired at you strikes you in the unprotected armpit area and passes right through your armpit and your heart and if it hits you on the front side and into the brachial plexus region you are going to face immediate paralysis in that arm. stay safe and watch your six brother.
the military started using floppy pads to hang over armors shoulders to protect the side heart shot. the new armor straps onto your upper and lower bicep covering even more. kinda like slipping on a elbow pad but higher. body armor saves lives but its also a false sense of security.
Guy Green It’s a gamble any way you look at it. You could get shot in the nuts. You need the nut guard. You could get shot in face. Need the face guard. You could get shot in the kneecap. Need the knee guard. Just invest in a tank and cover your 6. Damn, should have bought the tank guard.😬
Oh yes and I seen the comment about the 3A inserts, definitely if you got the money you’re going to want that because as I mentioned before the fragments will turn into shrapnel and there’s 3A inserts. Knives and all kinds of stuff. A lot of people don’t get them because they can’t afford them so if you have the capability it’s highly recommended but if you’re getting steel armor trauma pads are essential
@The Good Life the extra coating is to cut down on sprawling (when bullet hit steel they fragment and fly around) the extra coating catches those fragments. Trama pads mitigate some of the shock from the bullet suddenly stopping and ringing the metal plate
I couldn't afford the Level 3A soft inserts. I did get my Level 3 steel plates from TS with the spall coating and trauma pads. That's all I could afford. I had a couple of old Level 2 Kevlar soft panels laying around and they fit perfect between the steel plates and trauma pads, so for a stand alone setup it's better than just the steel plates at least.
They should be giving these away, it shouldn't cost anything to save a life if you are in a job that requires you to put yourself into a position where this is needed. Poor kids should have shelter and free food too. Dental work should be free as well. Money is God though so if you don't have it you die.
Regular old Winchester 5.56 55gr FMJ out of a 16" or longer barrel will punch holes in level 3 steel armor. I put 1/2" lexan behind my level 3 plate to see what was coming out the back. The bullet splatter was contained on the face of the lexan, but the punched out steel slugs from the plate were driven halfway through the lexan. The barrel on my AR is 16". I'd say in this situation, having a level 2 or 3a soft panel behind the steel armor would most likely catch those slugs. However, I saw a test of M193 shot out of a 22" barrel penetrate a level 3 steel plate and the 3a soft panel placed behind it. It then penetrated several inches into ballistics gel. The guy then shot M193 out of a 22" barrel and it penetrated a level 3+ steel plate. Bullet velocity was 3267fps.
I have a Tac scorpion set up. Only front and back. I wanted sides but eventually opted out. You can purchase trauma pads for the rear of your plates. Adds just a bit more comfort and warmth in cold weather. I often wear mine just to always be reminded of the weight and what to expect when wearing it. During cold months where it lays on my body usually has sweat marks on the shirt. I got all inclusive for $169 and change. I had a coupon that dropped it another 20 dollars so it was a steal but would have paid $169 as well. It is 11x14. Had a 10x12 which I sold because it was a wee to short. Great vid.

I know this is old but would you recommend this for a security Guard? Thinking about getting this since I’m a SG in a mall where robbery and gun violence is at a all time high
DJ Money D It is bulky and hard to conceal. You will get a good work out if you wear it but I would recommend you look into something tailored towards your line of duty. My set up is relatively inexpensive and functional but from what I have heard from combat service men and women wearing those carriers for multiple tours has done damage to their shoulders and backs. It works but just keep those factors in mind.
That’s a maker (can’t remember exactly) who sells a shirt style vest that’s made to hold Kevlar panels I wear it daily Extremely easy to wear and extremely concealed It’s 40 dollars for the shirt and I got 2 10x12 28 layer Kevlar shooter cut panels for 60 ea shipped Definitely recommend it
I was going to say look around there is soft vest that about do the same as this one and alot lighter for your line of work. I've seen som Leo's wear soft armor but it's all up to you on how much extra weight you want to carry
Wear a plate carrier with level 4 plates. Have a big ass patch that says security on your plate carrier and helmet. Wear a ballistic helmet. Carry a rifle with a sidearm strapped to your waste. Wear some elbow and knee pads. Dress in black or green. Have 3 rifle mags on your plate carrier. Also put on a pair of ballistic goggles. Have a group of you dressed up like that looking operator as fuck. That should deter most criminals from robbing the place. There’s a reason nobody shoots up a gun shop or a police station. Don’t forget about training.
@Frankie TEE malls have jewelry stores with diamonds and watches that cost upwards of 10 grand, and also malls are a target for an active shooter, and malls get a lot of transients. it's not unreasonable to have a need for body armor if you're doing security at a mall. look at mall of america's security, they have a special operations division and k9 units
nice. I just got this body armor. Unfortunately i have to wear it all day for my work. I wanted better protection because it's getting dangerous out there. Hope i can handle the extra weight. My shoes won't i bet. have to change out the insoles more often probably. I'm 6'2 256 pounds. I hope the 10x12 spartan level 3 plates is good enough. Got a good deal on it on ebay. I should have done more research first and i would have purchased a 11X14 plate instead. I wasn't sure about the side plates so i got soft 6x6 side armor instead. I'll upgrade it to plates next year. Note: i purchased 10X12 trama pads. I read that it helps with blunt force impact so your body won't get so damaged after taking a round on the plates. Kinda like a cushion pad between you and the plates.
Wasn't sure about the one size fits all bit you are about my size to decided to purchase the plate carrier and same plates in the meantime while I save to buy something a li L bit more practical. Thank you !
travisp11 need to point out, nothing's wrong with the scorpion armor. I just prefer the design on CATI. I use scorpion trauma pads because they're cheap. Not structurally cheap but money wise. They're foam pads and shouldn't cost over $20 a pair. Put the plates and pads in a condor carrier and it's one of the best cheap pieces of armor available.
I think the concerns over cheap gear are a little silly for certain things. A plate carrier isn't exactly a complex piece of technology. It's a piece of fabric that holds plates. We aren't talking about fighter jets where the difference between a cheap fighter jet and an expensive fighter jet makes a huge difference.
BCrafty121 True but on the other end if you get a junk carrier and wish to train with it you also don’t want something that won’t survive a few sessions.
I love my Condor plate carrier. This is just for civilian use only and I’m not planning to live with it 24/7. It’s more than good enough for me. I don’t mind paying for a body armor like John Wick is using. Never-the less it’s good enough for what I can afford.
travisp11 really its so heavy are you sure u can carry all that weight strap in your body ..specially when it comes to a combat situation where mobility is the key to success when ur carrying that heavyweight vest its a disadvantage and can slow u down
Travis I have the same set up, but with it the side plates. I know I should use them and its wrong of me not 2 but I'm 6'1 and about 280lbs so that means it's extra weight on me now I have lost weight from 300lbs so when I loss about 20 more pounds I will consider using side plates then thanks for the video and stay safe 11/25/18
Mark Isler there may be some package deals out there where you get that plate carrier in a package deal. I bought the plate carrier on Amazon and the plates elsewhere. This video is a bit old but the prices on these plates have dropped if you look around a bit.
I know that vest I personally wore it and I have one still but, I would highly recommend you spend the extra money and get 3+ armor and no matter what kind of armor you go after ensure you get spall coating or else the bullet fragments will turn into shrapnel. Also steel plates are great because they have multi hit capability however speed or velocity will always defeat armor. One thing you’re missing is your trauma pads if you do not have the trauma pads which run about $20 for the set you are asking for broken ribs… I’ve been in the military for 20 years and I have taken a hit with armor on and believe me if you’re getting hit with 7.62 you’re gonna want it otherwise you will have them broken bones especially with steel plates and for the record I only carry tactical scorpion level 3+ and level four plates spall coated curved plates or AR500 3+ build up coated (very high quality). If you got the money and the time to wait for it I would recommend going with the AR 500 plates but tac scorpion is amazing and that’s what I was wearing when I got hit

So what level do you need to stop that

It works but just keep those factors in mind.
That’s a maker (can’t remember exactly) who sells a shirt style vest that’s made to hold Kevlar panels
I wear it daily
Extremely easy to wear and extremely concealed
It’s 40 dollars for the shirt and I got 2 10x12 28 layer Kevlar shooter cut panels for 60 ea shipped
Definitely recommend it
I was going to say look around there is soft vest that about do the same as this one and alot lighter for your line of work.
As a guy around the same build as you I'm curious to what size this vest is?
I think it was one size fits all.
I got the plate carrier 2 6x8 side plates and 2 10x12 plates rifle rated for 149.99 off of Amazon as like a combo deal
captain spaulding Very nice!
Is it just me or should those side plates be rotated 90°?
Mervin Secure1 Cambric Secure1 possibly but with this vest I don’t believe you can
Get the trauma pads and III A soft panel inserts.
Yup!
I’ve seen a few videos online where the ammo was tested and it does actually hold up fairly well
How do they prevent spawlding (probebly spelling that wrong)
A polymer coating slows down the fragments after impact.
Wasn't sure about the one size fits all bit you are about my size to decided to purchase the plate carrier and same plates in the meantime while I save to buy something a li L bit more practical. Thank you !
Rogelio Hernandez Let me know how it works for ya! Thanks for watching!
Thx thats helpful. Isn't the backplate supposed to curve outward, not inward? I think you may need to reverse it
I will check and see. I think I want the back plate to curve around my back so it fits better so we will check it out.
Dont know anything about vests n the specific plates. Anything i should know off the top? How do i know if im not over paying etc?
Do some online window shopping. Compare prices. If in doubt just go to ar500.com and anything you buy from them will be high quality.
@@travisp11 no doubt
CATI has the same armor set on eBay for $179. It's a little bit more higher end, equivalent to Spartan armor.
Kevin McDermott I will check it out!
travisp11 need to point out, nothing's wrong with the scorpion armor. I just prefer the design on CATI. I use scorpion trauma pads because they're cheap. Not structurally cheap but money wise. They're foam pads and shouldn't cost over $20 a pair. Put the plates and pads in a condor carrier and it's one of the best cheap pieces of armor available.
Thick Shaft Wiener Nuts why do you have a psp
Ok im about 5'5 176 lbs im have trouble with getting the sode plates to sit the way there suppose to
thurman ray Do you have the same plate carrier as me? You can also adjust the shoulder straps, too.
Yes plus this carrier has space behind the plate for a large Kevlar chest sheet and double Cumberland 6x8 and larger Kevlar insert
Buy tac scorpion spall gaurds
Good advice!
Got my plate carrier for 40$ off wish haha....gonna put a few of these platein it
What size are the plates?
@@Mr.GunLifeJohnny I want to say they’re almost like 8 1/2 x 11 or about the size of a notebook cover
@@travisp11 what you think about the size , you think it covers plenty ?
@@Mr.GunLifeJohnny it does. I’m 5’10”, 205lbs now and it covers all the vital areas.
Does it come with plates?
You buy the armor plates separately.
@@travisp11 alrighty thank u
I love my Condor plate carrier. This is just for civilian use only and I’m not planning to live with it 24/7. It’s more than good enough for me. I don’t mind paying for a body armor like John Wick is using. Never-the less it’s good enough for what I can afford.
Right on!
Would you suggest it for armed security guard work? (Short hours, typically 5-hrs at most).
What's the name of the vest or model number
Chris Linder check my channel for a review. It is a Condor brand.
I see your dragonball z shirt.. Hell yeah brother!
Personally, I am only an 8K power level, LOL!
Good to see. I would go with the 6x6” side plates. Our builds are similar and I know I would not like that in my arm pits
Michael Kaye I agree
What about trauma pads?
I dont believe the additional pouches or space is provided for them.
How come you didn’t have soft armor in there as well ?
No room
Good information for beginners. You say "go ahead" a lot.
Zachary Fisher Yeah I know. I'm working on that.
I spent 180 for mine with plate front n back ..kinda overpaid it
How much weight in all of those plates ?.it seems heavy 8pounds per plate so is it 16 pounds in all
Closer to 25 or 30 with all 4 plates installed and the rest.
travisp11 really its so heavy are you sure u can carry all that weight strap in your body ..specially when it comes to a combat situation where mobility is the key to success when ur carrying that heavyweight vest its a disadvantage and can slow u down
Looks like a good carrier as good info and vid....Good stuff...
Scott F. I think it was a solid purchase. Thanks for watching!
How much for everything all together?
$185 delivered
That's dirt cheap for body armor. The plates are fully functional, right?
@@peterraab3411 yup, Mr. Guns N Gear did a range test on the exact same armor and it held up well.
Hey how's that plate set up holding up?
Thanks
Jack Rock just fine. I’ve worn it a few times to the range just to do a little shooting with my AR.

Thank for watching! Yeah man, get yourself to the point where you can use the side plates and you will be even safer.

So does the vest come with the plates???
No
I saw a deal where the vest comes complete with the plates. Maybe it's a different vest.
Mark Isler there may be some package deals out there where you get that plate carrier in a package deal. I bought the plate carrier on Amazon and the plates elsewhere. This video is a bit old but the prices on these plates have dropped if you look around a bit.
Those side plates, I heard they rub your biceps. Is that true?
On me, just a little.

Theredneck Prepper I can give them a call!
Yea i have the same one

Laser keeps the temp more stable? Bruh a laser cutter cuts by literally melting the steel. CNC is better for temperatures bc it carves the metal not melt. Anything with friction has heat.
Great video

I want level 5 body armor with the trauma pads. If you are in law enforcement or security I would recommend level 5 get the thickest steal plates and the best trauma gear. Sure it's heavy but it will save your ass if you get shot in the chest either by a 12 gauge slug or a high Calibur riffle or handgun

did you bought the base coat or spall coat?

"you can always pay less" thats optimistic, from what ive seen condor is about the cheapest "real" plate carriers you can get.
Im sure ebay or wish.com has something even cheaper. Look around, its probably out there and cheaper. Not that Id recommend it.
I know you could potentially get cheaper stuff, but as far as im aware those are airsoft, these are the cheapest plate carriers that are designed as plate carriers, and for what they are they are fantastic
steve williams I hear ya. On my channel I like to test out some of the least expensive gear out there but I agree with you that you are really compromising if you go with a cheaper build construction. You could get by but no guarantees if it came down to actual use.
