Hi, in this case you would need so called “Überführungskennzeichen” (not to be mixed with “Kurzzeitkennzeichen”). You need to either have a residency in Germany or staying in Germany for some period of time (I am not 100% sure, better to check with the German registration authority directly). You are going to need an insurance for this and bank account (usually German bank account). The price is 31,80€ or higher depending on the case and the registration will be valid for one year. Hi, it depends whether you want to register a new or a used vehicle. For a new vehicle you need to wait for the post to receive all your required paperwork (3 days or longer after you have done the online part). For the used vehicles you would be able to print the confirmation immediately and start driving while still waiting for the authorities to send you original papers via mail. You need to full fill some requirements to be able to use the online registration: your ID must have e-ID functionality and the car registration papers have to be no older than 2015.

How do you obtain a HU+AU? Is that provided together with the car when bought?

It should be always provided when you are buying a used car:) For the new cars it is not needed for the registration (apart from one special case, when a new car wasn’t sold for too long and is longer fulfilling the emission standards, but it’s a very rare situation).
