    This was a horrible showcase for the WNBA. I think the WNBA needs to focus on skills, coaching if they ever want to be taken seriously. The 3-pt shot has masked the underlying issues, lack of fundamentals it's pretty bad. College basketball is way better than the WNBA, it should be the other way around.

      Great point.
      1) I thought that if the Sides/Fever spent the off season focusing on BOXING OUT they would win 5-8 more games per season. They were awful at boxing out.
      2) And pinning players on the low post so the entry pass wouldn't be consistently knocked away or even worse, intercepted.
      3) Setting a DECENT screen!! With the perimeter scorers Indiana has, GOOD screens are a must.

    I watched highlights of Caitlin’s performances in the NCAa tournament from freshman to senior years. This shows how complete her game was in college - logo threes, great passing, efficient in driving to the basket, mid jumpers, steals, blocks ice in her veins in big moments. No surprise that she broke so many records as a rookie and shined above other so called stars in the league.

    Some of the calls in the WNBA are so bad, it raises the question of whether some of these refs even fully understand the game of basketball. I'm not talking about debatable calls where when you watch the rerun in slowmo, you can at least see why the call was made (or not made), even if it was a bad call or missed call. I'm talking about real head scratchers, as in There is nothing there, at all, nothing! Or the player is laying on the court with an egg growing over her eye within seconds, and no call is made. Or a player slaps a pad and gets a technical, and a few games later with another team, a player slaps the pad right in front of the same ref, and he turns a blind eye. I would say (again) where is the WNBA leadership, but that is just wasting words, as there is no WNBA leadership. CC, or any other player, cannot save a league with so many deep flaws and no leadership.

    The problem that the WNBA has is that CC is the only SUPERSTAR in the league and the only player that most people want to watch. She is a ONE-in-a-generation player. The league can't MAKE another generational player. The league has to market enough very, very good players to make the game more exciting and entertaining until another Caitlin Clark type of player comes along.
    There are a lot of good players that can shoot 3 pointers. But, none off them have the style and flair of Caitlin Clark and Stephan Curry. They have fans mesmerized and watching in awe.

    • @jammin_J64
      @jammin_J64 6 днів тому +5

      I'm sorry. I get what you're saying. I really do. However, 75-80% finish rate would be an acceptable rate for middle schoolers. Heck, in 6th grade I won a lay-up contest with 19-20 made. That's 95% for a 6th grader! And I did that on the regular as I'm sure many kids that age do.
      These are professionals! They should be shooting nothing less than 95% on lay-ups. They should all be shooting above 80% on free throws as professionals. The problem is, they are far too concerned with outside noise that offends them than they are about improving their game. Getting offended often times is a choice. Staying on and participating in social media is a choice. Working on your game is a choice. Shutting your mouth is a choice. These W players do nothing but keep displaying poor choices either by bad play or bad behavior.

    • @mikehall4517

    • @jammin_J64
      @jammin_J64 6 днів тому

      @mikehall4517
      You just stated the problem in your reply. Just because that's the average doesn't mean it's acceptable. Good basketball is still good basketball. 75-80% for lay-ups is NOT a good or acceptable percentage for PAID professionals! This is their JOB! Yet they piss and moan about everything under the sun, namely their wages. Well, put out a product that people want to see, and perhaps those results will come. It should start with lay-ups. Look at the finals. These are supposedly the "best" players in the world. Seriously? In the world? Yet they can only hit a 2-3 foot shot lay-up at a 75-80% clip? That's absurd! That's comparable to NBA players missing dunks! Spud Webb could dunk at whatever he was...5-5? Come on now!
      Whatever you put in the work on, it reflects in your performance. This league is terrible and has largely been exposed this year with all the extra eyeballs because of Caitlin Clark. All they saw was bad basketball with missed lay-up after missed lay-up. Maybe a certain fan base sticks while Ckark is out and still watches these playoffs. More power to them. I'm not here telling people what they should or shouldn't watch. That's personal preference and rightly so.
      However, the league again, has done nothing but complain for years. Accepting a statistic like this while complaining about the things they do is ridiculous! Clean up your game first!! Maybe then some of those fans will start taking you seriously ladies.

    There is the concept of "let them play", but "let them play" in the WNBA means "Don't let them play basketball". It is not the toughest and most skilled who win, but the biggest bullies. A simple fix is to call fouls until the the teams adjust their style of play be a balance of skill and physicality. This assumes the league has the vision and referees to know the difference.

    I do wonder if because in the past standard defense for a layup was to clock people in the head or body slam them the players tend to avoid doing layups?? I would say both teams made more layups than during the average WNBA game.

    That's just it, they think their game is being criticized, because they're women. That's not it at all. I think what some people forget is that sports are about entertainment, not just playing the game. For years, the WNBA has not been entertaining, because all they do is pullup jumpers, layups, and 3 pointers. The problem is that we can watch the same thing at the YMCA with little kids. Now, Caitlin Clark on the other hand, is entertaining to watch, she's must-see TV. Here's why it's not a "woman" thing, look at the NBA when Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were playing, it was good, but not entertaining. When Michael Jordan arrived, he brought a different kind of style that entertained people, both at home and at away games. Caitlin Clark is doing the same. Let the WNBA continue to blame and point the fingers about it being the men don't like "women's sports." Instead, they should be thinking of ways to improve the game with more storylines, rivals, and just flat out playing good, exciting basketball. JS!!!

    The best part about the game was the CC Gatorade commercial and the Boston Adidas commercial.
    The 1st quarter was good. that was it. The 2nd/3rd/4th back to force the ball into the paint boring basketball. player after player wide open, yet they would not take a shot from 3 land. Pass the ball, make bad pass, turnover, force the ball to the paint, miss layup. boring,boring !!! I would rather watch them shoot 3 point shots, miss, get the rebound, try another 3 point shot. another thing !!!
    Is CC the only player that can pass the ball behind their back ??? Sounds like a good Nike deal !!!

    Thank you! I'm not crazy. I couldn't believe that call on Collier and wondered why more wasn't made about it. AND Stewart!!! I had to go back to replay it to hopefully see that SOMETHING caused that slam off the backboard that looked like a ridiculously missed layup. It was just a ridiculously missed layup. Not even a little touch that would have made it reboundable - SLAM! Pro players? C'mon. (And didn't she have ANOTHER one before that?)

  • @christopherkohl6511
    @christopherkohl6511 6 днів тому +1

    A few missed layups is all you can point out to say Breanna Stewart isn't fun to watch? What, you don't like watching a great basketball player because of that? And of all the players you could have pointed out this is who you chose to make an example of? Let me tell ya something you're missing about Stewart. She's essentially a power forward size point guard out there, already that's a rarity, she's a novelty in this league. Now take note she has a 7'1" wingspan. Watch and enjoy how easily she helps the Liberty break tough presses and traps with her height, length and passing ability. She can stroke 3's with the best of them. She recorded an WNBA record 7 steals in game 2 by using that unique blend of height, length, basketball IQ, and sheer grit and determination. Oh and tossed in 21 pts 7 boards, 5 assists all of which is starting to look like quadruple double territory. I have no idea what it takes to please you but those kind of numbers and unique skillset is a thing of beauty and something you don't see every day in any basketball league... And let's be honest here most of the women in the WNBA will miss the occasional layup. They're never going to be as good as the men. And you know what? I'm fine with that. Better to watch actual women than a league full of Britney Griners, which is where they want to take this league in the future to apparently please the fickle frans (pun intended) like you and Ben Daniel. And btw, they have called the Liberty's Feobich for that exact same foul (running into a screener) several times so far this series, so finally at least they got something they can point to that's being consistently called on both sides.

    Will you speak to defending the three? I see a lot of players doing a late close out, often resulting in a foul whether called or not. Only Dennis Johnson could jump high enough to block threes on a close out. Most of the time the shot is gone before the closer gets there. It seems like the smarter play would be to make sure the shooter doesn’t follow the shot and go from there.
