It commemorates the Civil War in which 150,000 English people killed each other in order to secure the democratic form of government we have now. This was fascinating, the first filming of the Opening of Parliament in 1966. She was still so young and fresh looking. Prince Philip was in perfect form. Everyone knew his place and wore his wig. Ladies wore gowns. It's still rather like that, but somewhat less involved if I remember. And many more women are in the House of Commons and Lords, too.
