Weidman won that match. The most amazing part is he just started training JJ in 2008. This is 2009. Shows how great of a talent Weidman is, and how good of a BJJ trainer Matt Serra is

Unlike other point Jiu-jitsu tournaments. ADCC is all about submission & wrestling which is very welcoming for grapplers of any discipline like Sambo, Judo, Wrestling etc.
It's not strictly Jiu-jitsu. In fact Jiu-jitsu guys had to adapt to ADCC rules where you get points from takedowns, sweeps, and throws. As a result Jiu-jitsu practitioners also learned how to wrestle.
Chris already got the wrestling part covered he just needed a bit of Jiu-jitsu knowledge to counter Galvao's submission techniques

On mat number two we have a winner, Glover Texiera. Really gives you an appreciation for how long that guy has been relevant, he's been around longer than Weidman and just had a championship this year unlike Weidman who hasn't been close to one for a very long time

The sole reason weidman has been able to install that choking position was because of the referee reset when they got out of bound, galvao initiated a sweep and they ended up resetting, but the position they ended up was still a dynamic position where no control was established; the thing is, they had to restart and thus all the momentum that galvao had during the sweep attempt was gone, plus the position and grips were unclear so the referee have placed him in a really shitty spot ( from half guard to an half guard with the knee passed, almost the ending sequence of a knee slide pass ) and in a static position with no momentum with every grips and controls in favor of weidman; thats why they contested so long the resetting position, it wasn't fair at all, plus weidman agressivity trying to establish a better position during the reset made it even harder for the referees. From a technical point of view galvao is clearly the superior player here, his victory stands logically

Andre though getting dominated was on bottom. Swept to top position and held it for 3 seconds of control. Honestly if Chris had played the rules better. Good chance he would’ve won. I have a feeling Gordon is going to get hurt in the Heavyweight division and then still do the super fight and get out pointed. He's taking Galvao too lightly by doing both. Pride comes before the fall.
