I am Indian American and I literally dumped my Indian fiance two months ago for telling me he wasn't attracted to me anymore after I gained 10 pounds. Seeing Shek's story really triggered me. Gigantic twats like this exist irl. It's horrific.

Edit: thank you to those with kind words and encouragement. It's been hard but I'm lucky to have a great support system. And here's some more context for those who need it-- He initially told me he didn't care about the weight gain (it was really just 10 pounds or approx 4 kilos). We had other issues and he had a tendency to be incredibly hurtful on purpose. Ex. He told me the wedding dress of my dreams was ugly when we were having an unrelated fight. During our last conversation, I said I was tired of his dismissive attitude to my complaints about his behavior. He responded by saying he wasn't sure he was still attracted to me and didn't think he could ever gain the attraction back. So really, he was upset I dared question his toxicity and he reacted by trying to break me. This was one month before the wedding. I was shocked. I broke off the engagement that night. I had put up with so much abuse at that point, I was just done.
I’m sure that was so incredibly hurtful - that would absolutely mess with me and you do not deserve that kind of mess. I’m also super glad you dumped him ✌🏾

Shake has the manic energy of an ace attorney killer on the edge of his breakdown, where he just starts saying words and hoping nobody corrects him.
It's totally fine to not be attracted to someone. You can even find someone beautiful/handsome but not be physically attracted to them, and that's okay. What's NOT okay is promising yourself to that person and bashing them to everyone you talk to. Be a man and let her find someone who can appreciate her.
Also, if physical appearance is a very high priority, maybe give a show called 'love is blind' a miss.

I really wanted someone to clock Shake for his self-hatred. The fact that he had to constantly compare Deepti -- who is also Indian -- to a relative as a justification for why there was no physical attraction is a HUGE red flag.
I felt like he has a fetish for white women specifically blonde haired white women idk if there's some deeper psychological reason for that but the way he was describing his past and how he was attracted to his partners before was very dehumanizing to them and it felt like the whole reason he couldn't "love" Deepti was because he saw her as a person.
I don't think it's fair to immediately jump to self-hatred. Some people who do live in an international area tend to stray away from people of the same ethnicity because maybe the main interaction with the people he's had of those ethnicities has been his family. For example I associate the Chinese language and mandarin with family, and I would probably prefer if a romantic partner spoke primarily in another language. I love my background and have a strong emotional connection with Chinese culture, this is not related to any kind of self-hatred. It's weird that he draws such a hard line but maybe that's only one of the things that puts him off. Not that he's not an asshole still, he completely is. But that feeling specifically if he didn't voice it in such a way on national television is not that problematic or indicative of self-hatred imo.

OR people whose parents are vets and think they have a silver spoon and will get into vet school as a "legacy" but have no actual care or passion for the field. it's extremely insulting to the rest of us who are here because this is what we want to do.

She had the biggest personality I've ever experienced over the course if her time there. Started out as a kind maybe slightly naive girl who wanted to help animals. Now she does animal testing for a pharmaceutic company.

The utterly defeated postures of all of the other guys while Shek is talking is just...it's magical. It's dark magic, but it's magical. You can see their souls leave their bodies and hover in limbo the longer Shek talks, the shame of having to sit near him and forever be associated with him on the show. The unity of everyone, even Shayne (I'll take Jarvis' word that he is awful in his own ways), in their simmering rage is a sight to behold.
I haven't watched the show, but I adore the reaction of the girl who just started laughing when he asked about her size.

Yes, he is very domineering and emotionally volatile. Seemingly anything will set him off. "You don't compliment me enough!"...ok, I didn't know I was supposed to compliment you every 5 seconds, now I'm getting yelled at? Natalie would often apologize, even though she was the one on the receiving end of aggression. Shane has a lot insecurity which he needs to get under control before he can be a stable partner. Most abusers aren't born evil, and their abuse is not necessarily intentional. It's a product of distorted thinking, over-reactivity, and a desire to control their partner to prevent them from leaving. It's essentially fear of abandonment on steroids.
