Ive test driven both the Tacoma and the Ridgeline....for a long time ive loved Tacomas but the Ridgeline won me over. Superior seating arrangement and gas mileage is what sold me on it. Plan on getting one at the end of this year
It’s amazes me how many people can watch videos on the Honda Ridgeline if they don’t really like the truck also looks to me like they are very curious to see what Honda is doing. Honda slowly blowing the competition out of the water for 95% of the people that’s all the truck you’ll ever need.
First model was nice and alot more truck worthy. Being curious about this model doesn't make us hippocratic. This is just a quick spot filler for Honda's line up. Bring back the previous model with some current updates and I'd be 100% for it. This is not a truck, it's a honda pilot chop job with some frame reinforcements, period.
It has a bed and it tows 5,000 lbs with a ton of creature comforts. Far from a "filler". However it does "fill" the need of 98% of truck owners who do ZERO off roading. Think a little next time before commenting. You look foolish.
@@Johnfanclub Why do you care? Buy your overpriced truck that busts your back. If you do any research, the Ridgeline blows away just about every truck in it's category in terms of ride, tech and reliability. All while being able to tow 5,000 lbs. Hardly a "car with a bed nothing more". But Dopey you just go ahead and enjoy your noisy back breaking "manly" truck.
I was pretty “anti” ridgeline UNTIL I test drove one. I have to admit it won me over and I really liked the extra storage. I’m still shopping around but it’s at the top of the list.
Fantastic review. Very helpful and I have decided to get the 2020 Black Edition next month. I was looking at Gladiator and I do not need that. For my needs, Ridgeline is the best.
You might want to trade it for a 2018 or 2019, they made it a ton quieter; less road noise than a mercedes. They got complaints on the 2017 model so they redesigned noise aspects.
Last year, in August, I sold my 22 year old Tacoma and bought a 2019 RTL-E w/ 8K miles on it. WOW! this is a dang fine truck... I would argue that it is the finest vehicle that I have ever owned... and I am an old guy having owned a lot of vehicles.
I will say as a older Ridgeline owner, the front/grill area was big let down. Cant you make it a little more different than the Pilot please? Yes its a more practical city truck, but at least dont make it look so wimpy.
Beautiful ... and with Honda build quality and reliability ... now just give me a version with some decent ground clearance and maybe a slight increase in tire size and I am 100% sold.
I’m glad that the heated seat controls stay where they are when pressed. That way if you turn off the car and get back in with in a few minutes you don’t have to turn them on again. It’s the little things lol.
Nice truck, just wish they gave it more of a rugged look like their previous model. I have a 2006 Ridgeline with 200,000 miles and it still drives like new. It is an awesome truck.
I want one, but am hoping for a mid-year update. I really want my radio to have volume and tuning knobs. I noticed that the slider wasn't completely responsive. Of course, there's always the steering wheel control, I suppose.
I like that it looks like a pilot, more sophisticated but with the utility of a truck. This is a truck my wife wouldn't mind driving. Sure it isn't the toughest, most rugged looking but I bet is one of the most comfortable and easy to drive.
I have ram 2500 and my wife ridgeline. My only gripe is I can't stretch my left leg fully and ache on long hauls in the ridgeline. But that's on 2015 model, hope they provided more legroom? All in all ridgeline provides us with more fuel economy over my ram and tons of unforgettable driving and vacations. Very simplistic
I used to own an 08 Ridgeline and most of the cars that I’ve ever owned are 08 and below but now I want to save up money for a beauty like this Ridgeline
Nice thorough review. Just bought the Ridgeline after road testing the Tacoma and canyon. For Minnesota winters you can’t go wrong with the Honda SHAWD system it will out perform most 4x4 systems, unless you plan to do slow speed off-road. The ridgeline has Better handling and you have the bed for when you need to haul anything under 1600lbs, tow 5k lbs. Plus when you need to merge into the highway you’ll have no issues, the Tacoma and canyon’s gas pedal will hesitate before you get any torque!
I think the Ridgeline is superior to all other mid sized trucks out there in all the areas that matter. AWD traction, interior space, interior quality, features, storage, quality, fuel efficiency and the list goes on. It doesn't have low range or high ground clearance but it's still a great choice for those not needing those capabilities.
My nissan frontier supercharged is 350 hp and will blow this ridgeline out of the water on highway and off highway and is better in the snow plus it has a 4low and low range tranny
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043Jesus, that's not what you came here to tell us? That you supercharged a Nissan Frontier and now it's better. Great review. I especially like how you take the time you discuss the interior and options. The sliding rear window should be standard on all models. I’m looking forward to see if Honda makes the same updates as the Pilot. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the in-depth review. This truck looks like an awesome daily driver. FYI, before holding the remote start button on the key fob, you do not need to double click the lock button, just click it once.
I saw two of these today at a local Sprouts market. I had to blink twice at the sight. Saw one of the previous gen style and the second was the current style. The fact they look plain or dull I’m beginning to think is a quirk. You see one pass in front of you and your eyes glaze past and not really seeing a truck but shorthand for pilot suv. I wonder how many people have been pulled over for speeding in these. If Honda keeps this vehicle they may try to go full truck frame and stick this cab on it. Normally I want a truck to be a truck but all things considered if I needed something brand new to fill 85% of my occasional needs this may do if I don’t find something else shiny to see on dealer lots
I hope that in the new models to come for the Ridgeline, they update the front fascia to appear more aggressively designed or manlier, if you will. I feel that the overall boxy contour of the rear of the vehicle doesn't jive with the smoothness/curviness of the front. Also, I think it would also be nice if it had a wide center arm rest/storage compartment as is the case for most pick-up trucks. Aside from those mentioned, this is definitely something I'd consider buying in the future. Go Honda!
I love the concept of the RL; However, I'm not a fan of the exterior. I truly believe they'd bridge the gap with Tacoma if Honda would change the aesthetics of the RL. It needs more of an aggressive look / stance before I pull the trigger on one. I test drove it and absolutely loved its handling characteristics, but I won't let my full sized Ram go and take the RL plunge unless Honda changes the look to give the RL a better and more truck like stance. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice vehicle, just not what I want in a truck! Get rid of the car looking / Pilot front end and give it a little more ground clearance to give it some gap between the tires and fenders. There's a company called Traxda, who offers a quality 2" lift for the RL, but Honda should offer a package of their own. C'mon Honda... COME THROUGH FOR 2020!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm guessing they purposely don't want it to look like the typical trucks you're accustomed to. I personally can't stand the grilles on most of today's trucks. They're tripping over each other to see who can make the most aggressive and over-the-top-macho styling. I prefer the RL styling exactly because of that.
I’m torn between this and a Ford Raptor, one if obviously not as “trucky” but both are good, I just wish Honda would and will make this look less like a pilot and more like a real truck, it looks kind of wimpy and maybe change the interior a bit and I’m sold
I think this is my next vehicle. I wish they offered an Acura version though, with better styling and a better-looking interior with nicer materials, and I'll admit it, just for the bump in prestige. I'd pay an extra couple/few grand for those things, but the Honda version will do nicely all the same.
A somewhat surprising negative is that it has the worst depreciation score of the segment, with Tacoma naturally scoring a 10, but Colorado and Frontier coming in with 8's, and the Ridgeline only at 7. Weird for a Honda, but I guess it makes sense; it's not "heavy duty" like the competition, so if it's used like a work truck, it won't hold up as well. I doubt most owners use them like that, but perception is reality when it comes to depreciation.
I've had Honda cars before and have 0 complaints. I'm planning on moving to Texas in a future and this vehicule looks in a way what I need. I'm not pulling anything heavy I would buy it just so we can have a vehicule in case we need to go to the hardware store or maybe maybe carry something you wouldn't be carrying in a Pathfinder which is the vehicule we currently have. My only concern will be how durable will this engine be. Will it start crapping by the 100,000 miles?
It's a nice and practical mid-size pickup. I seriously looked at one but in the end went with a fullsize Tundra Crewmax because I needed the room for a baby car seat and needed added towing capacity for hunting and camping. Leer makes a nice topper for the Ridgeline BTW
My dad has this truck let me tell you uffff I feel rich inside of that even though I’m not. everything you’ll ever ask for it’s in here I recommended it’s the pickup of my dreams I recommended....
Seriously I have a Ram 1500 4x4 and just saw a Honda Ridgeline stuck on level ground in a parking lot. I pulled up next to them being pulled out by a F150! I drove all over in same area as the ride line not ever spinning any of my wheels. Snow about 10 inches. All four wheels spinning on Ridgeline doing nothing. It’s not the tires it’s the AWD system of lack of it. Subaru would have walked right through this area. In Montana I have seen same thing with Honda CRV and I told my wife that no Honda AWD systems allowed on our property.
I have the 2006 ridgeline it is awesome have more leg room as well as like the fact you can't see in my bed off the ground with the truck frame. Love the reliability handles well over the road feel like a car.
I do like how this is the only mid size truck that can carry 4’ wide material suck as Sheetrock and plywood. I wish they could build a full-size version.
It was a lot easier to buy in the 60s and early 70s. You could order what you want piece by piece not what package they think you should have. Lots of kids learned how to drive in farm pastures with old clunkers that weren't 4×4 no problem. Take a chance have fun just use common sense don't drive into a lake or swamp keep the tires on the ground etc. etc.
The Honda Ridgeline is actually AMAZING. But it would be more amazing if Honda add 4x4 and higher ground clearance so it could drive like a truck. BTW, good job Honda and kudos to Car Confections
Really useful / helpful video, can't wait to get one later this year :-). I just test drove the 2nd model below this one, as you said very impressed with the non-"trucky" driving characteristics. Thanks for doing this.
does it have a manual transmission variant?. inside the cabin it looks it has more space than the tacoma but the exterior is so hideous same with the interior design. It looks like a SUV for me. I still prefer tacoma over this one.
Pretty much every review of the Ridgeline concludes it's a very capable small/midsize truck. Hopefully it will get the front end from the new Honda Passport.
I was waiting to see what the ford ranger had to offer as it looked like it might be good, well the reviews are out and its just plain disappointing. Looks like I will be trading my G1 Ridgeline for a G2, interior is way better than any other midsize, rear seat setup is better than any other, bed is better, trunk in bed is incredibly useful I use it all the time in my G1, tailgate is better than others if you've never used it you don't get it but once you have the swing tailgate you won't want anything else, Mpg is better than most, rides better than others. Only down sides are tow capacity, and offroad worthiness but both of those are not that important to me. My boat and pop up camper are both under 5k, I hardly ever go offroad other than campsites and the beach. G2 RL its going to be for me.
Honda makes very good vehicles. This is a niche vehicle. They sell 10-50k Ridgeline per year over the years back to gen one. Ford sells over 400,000 F150s, and Chevy sells @300,000 Silverados and 80-100,000 Colorado’s per year looking at 2017 and ytd 2018 numbers in the USA. The new Ridgeline It’s a nice niche vehicle for someone who wants a bed, but does not want a truck like drive. To me this is a modern, better El Camino. carsalesbase.com/us-car-sales-data/honda/honda-ridgeline/
I've had a 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E for 3 months now and I LOVE it. Amazing comfort, handling, and acceleration. It only has 2 more horsepower than my 2017 Taco but feels so much more sporty. Amazing having a locking bed trunk to keep my tools in.
There's already a mod on it. 6 more inches additional opening from what I saw. It's a simple mod if you know how to turn a screwdriver, pry off a small plastic cover, turn a wrench, unclip some speaker connectors, and lifting off the door panel. Just google ridgeline rear door mod. It's only $30 and some did in less than an hour. If you are really thinking of buying one, go to the ridgeline forum. You can ask all the questions you want that will help you decide if it's not for you...good luck.
In my opinion, if it has a bed it's a truck. Does not matter if it's a unibody or not. That being said, I would probably buy a tacoma or frontier or maybe the upcoming ranger because I want something that will drive like a truck.
@@qualitylandscapeandhauling7942 I'm thinking this might be perfect for my landscaping business, as long as it can tow a 52 inch z-mower with small trailer. My other truck is a 4x4 f-350 with a dump insert, be nice to have a smooth ride when doing small jobs.
@@earthboundmisfiti2428 I test drove a Honda Ridgeline and it drove smooth. I really liked it. I just thought they were a bit expensive. So I ended up buying a used ex at&t truck for $4k. For skinny little guys this truck is perfect, but it isn't going to sell well for those of us that are 6'2" and above. Too bad because it really is the perfect weekend warrior.
Ray, yes I have, several times. I'm almost 70 and 6'2", most of that legs and for a person like me it's just too difficult to enter/exit and confining while driving. @@RobF48 you sir is absolutely right about this truck for the weekend warriors!!! I was never into trucks until I had a house and then a Camaro project. I didn't need to tow or have the desire to go off roading but my prior trucks were full and mid size 4x4s, so I sort of understand where all the bad comments are coming from. I didn't like the 1st generation RL and when this new one came out, I didn't like it also. It grew on me for a couple of years so now I'm driving one. I'm 6' and it fits me just perfect. It will do the things that I need it to do that my previous trucks did for me while it rides like an old school caddie with an awesome fuel milage. Good luck on your search.
Ray - I was at an appointment this afternoon and as chance would have it I was parked next to a new Ridgeline that was optioned just the way I would have done it. Well it was too much for me, I mean it has everything I need. It's the right height, gets great mileage, a rear bed AND TRUNK that can't be beat and more. And let's not forget the price, I can get one out the door for under $50K. So I thought and thought about it and I really think I'm going to pull the trigger on one, what the heck, I'll just stop more often and stretch my legs a bit. Q Da Gawd I have seen one helping out stranded ford truck ~
Ridgeline has 1% of market share for pickup trucks. I live in central Iowa, and if I count 100 pickups I bet I won't see one, though.
How does it do on pothole bumpy streets? Soaks them up?
Rides pretty well, right in line with the competition in my opinion
Does the tail gate lock?
Yes
Does the knock come with the ridgeline?
I’m torn between this and a Ford Raptor, one if obviously not as “trucky” but both are good, I just wish Honda would and will make this look less like a pilot and more like a real truck, it looks kind of wimpy and maybe change the interior a bit and I’m sold
I think this is my next vehicle. I wish they offered an Acura version though, with better styling and a better-looking interior with nicer materials, and I'll admit it, just for the bump in prestige. I'd pay an extra couple/few grand for those things, but the Honda version will do nicely all the same.
Can I listen to the radio after turning off the engine?
I'm more inclined to the Nissan Frontier or the Tacoma
You better read up on the Frontier. It's a POS. Speaking from experience!
Pablo: Maybe at 300,000 miles. MAYBE.
Oh! Thanks for the info
It's a nice and practical mid-size pickup. I seriously looked at one but in the end went with a fullsize Tundra Crewmax because I needed the room for a baby car seat and needed added towing capacity for hunting and camping. Leer makes a nice topper for the Ridgeline BTW
check out the crash ratings on the crewmax
I've owned (3) in the past, it fits my needs!
Jim Northrup why three? Honda suppse to last. My nissan frontier will last until im 48 years old i got it when i was 28
My dad has this truck let me tell you uffff I feel rich inside of that even though I’m not. everything you’ll ever ask for it’s in here I recommended it’s the pickup of my dreams I recommended....
God I wish I wasnt broke 😂😢
Awesomely detailed review. Subscribed.
Thanks! Welcome to the Car Confections "family"!
Will it be available right hand drive for auz , NZ market.
It looks like there are plans to bring it to Australia eventually
Seriously I have a Ram 1500 4x4 and just saw a Honda Ridgeline stuck on level ground in a parking lot. I pulled up next to them being pulled out by a F150! I drove all over in same area as the ride line not ever spinning any of my wheels. Snow about 10 inches. All four wheels spinning on Ridgeline doing nothing. It’s not the tires it’s the AWD system of lack of it. Subaru would have walked right through this area. In Montana I have seen same thing with Honda CRV and I told my wife that no Honda AWD systems allowed on our property.
Your full of shit
Right
Another "Shit that never happened" story.
So the Ford wasn't broken but your RAM was? That's the only believable part of your story.
yeah right....
I have the 2006 ridgeline it is awesome have more leg room as well as like the fact you can't see in my bed off the ground with the truck frame. Love the reliability handles well over the road feel like a car.
is the AWD all time engaged?
AWD + All-Weather Tires = Zero Worries ;-)
did you leave out if it's got GDI?
What’s the name of the music you were playing in the truck
Invisible by vibe tracks is the name
Car Confections thank you
First 3 seconds, I thought it was Hocico lol
Great review. I think you covered everything.
Thanks!
I do like how this is the only mid size truck that can carry 4’ wide material suck as Sheetrock and plywood. I wish they could build a full-size version.
Great review
I'm in love with this car....plz bring to Australia...
I wish they will sell this ute near me
no volume knob. REALLY HONDA???
That's what I said.. And it's bizarre they put a volume knob in the new pilot but not the Ridgeline.
Are we still on this 'no volume knob' nonsense? Because I have noticed quite a few new cars without a knob....and they get lauded for it
Hmmm. I've never seen a LAUD for the lack of a volume knob. Do you have have even one example?
I agree. I'm getting ready to get out of my 05 Accord into a new Honda and pretty annoyed with the lack of manual buttons.
You can control volume on steering wheel
Great review, very thorough. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Can a 7'1 495lb person drive this comfortably and I like the bed speaker for drive in movies I love, will I fit in the bed comfortably at the movies?
Flawless review 💯
The Ridgeline is off tha chain 🙃
Is it good for towing etc??. How is it in snow.
What's the Payload????? 23 min. Video and no Payload Rating????
Ok I love this truck, but when they will release the White Edition?
It was a lot easier to buy in the 60s and early 70s. You could order what you want piece by piece not what package they think you should have. Lots of kids learned how to drive in farm pastures with old clunkers that weren't 4×4 no problem. Take a chance have fun just use common sense don't drive into a lake or swamp keep the tires on the ground etc. etc.
The Honda Ridgeline is actually AMAZING. But it would be more amazing if Honda add 4x4 and higher ground clearance so it could drive like a truck. BTW, good job Honda and kudos to Car Confections
Thanks!
Really useful / helpful video, can't wait to get one later this year :-). I just test drove the 2nd model below this one, as you said very impressed with the non-"trucky" driving characteristics. Thanks for doing this.
Glad you liked the video and found it useful! Good luck with your future purchase!
Awesome trucks!
Sliverados, F150, Ram, Sierra, and more full size pickup trucks are real pickup trucks. These are basically a SUV but with a bed lol
Esta a años luz de ser una pickup el dia que honda haga algo similar a tacoma ese dia me comprare una de estas
I’m getting this!
I want this as my first vehicle
does it have a manual transmission variant?. inside the cabin it looks it has more space than the tacoma but the exterior is so hideous same with the interior design. It looks like a SUV for me. I still prefer tacoma over this one.
There is not a manual option
Honda rules, excellent utility truck
It’s a nice looking car but the rear seat room seems on the smaller end size. But overall a good value car.
Ranger is nice but bounces all over the road. Isn't a Ridgeline.

If I get a Ridgeline I’m equipping it with a grille guard because I don’t want to confuse it with a Pilot if it’s parked next to one.
The ridgeline takes two cars into one... the Pilot (front) and the Element (back)
One of my FAVORITE trucks
The Pilot has a bunch of upgraded systems that they didn't put in the Ridgeline!
I wish they made it a bit tougher looking
Or rugged looking
That's what the after market is for!
Jerry Gilliland yes I hear you but when you lease you really can’t do anything
I own a 2016 Chevy Colorado And trust me I’m not hating. I’m here to check out the competition. Way nicer interior in this truck
I would buy this truck if the back doors opened wider. It seems they only open to 45 degrees, making the back seat hard to access for passengers.
AWD not 4WD?
SH AWD. better
Honda really needs to add the push button shifter like the Pilot and Odyssey and get rid of that ridiculous huge shift lever !
Maybe the designer was compensating for something. This would never replace my element but I wouldn't buy from the big three over this.
This Truck looks like you, Drew!
Ewww I hope not haha
Lol! Somehow I knew that would be your response, but come on now, Buddy, it wouldn't be that bad to own would it?
Dodge Challenger review soon?
Maybe
Thanks for the video and assuming everyone knows what the Pilot is, looks, and rides like.
say what you are saying still buying one nice.
In my opinion, if it has a bed it's a truck. Does not matter if it's a unibody or not. That being said, I would probably buy a tacoma or frontier or maybe the upcoming ranger because I want something that will drive like a truck.
I wonder if this truck is good for my landscaping business ? Lol.
Well, as long as it does its job. Great for a family, but the Tacoma probably beats it truck wise.
It's a Chevy 1500, v6, long bed, with a commercial camper on it. So it's perfect for my landscaping business. Maybe in the future I will buy a Honda Ridgeline.
So an El Camino is a truck? Or a Subaru Baja? Or a HSV Maloo r8? Or a Ford Falcon XL utility?
Beautiful.
Why don’t you start out with the price of the Truck????
Pricing is at the end of the video as well as in the video description
For skinny little guys this truck is perfect, but it isn't going to sell well for those of us that are 6'2" and above. Too bad because it really is the perfect weekend warrior.
Have you gotten into one?
Ray, yes I have, several times. I'm almost 70 and 6'2", most of that legs and for a person like me it's just too difficult to enter/exit and confining while driving. I absolutely love the truck, it hit's the sweet spot for so many of us weekend warriors. I'm hope many people find it just what they're looking for, it deserves better than some of the comments I've seen.
It'll give me a chance to enjoy our country at a more leisurely pace. Wife and I love the Forest Mist and we're pretty much a Honda family already. So Ray, I owe it to you for opening my eyes. Thank you.
@@RobF48 Congratulation!!! I have the Obsidian Blue Pearl RTLE AWD model which I purchased last week. My wife also has a 2017 Pilot with the 9 speed(no issues). Join the Ridgeline Owners Club forum. You will find everything you need about the vehicle from accessories, fixes, modifications, tsb, and basically the bad and the good. One thing that bothers most owners are the tight rear door opening. There is a fix to it and only cost $30 of parts and an hour to do it. It's on UA-cam...Ridgeline rear door mod. It even has lift kits for crying out loud lol. By the way, sometimes, I drive barefooted during a long drive, I find it less tiring on my right leg, foot, and back. If you got the sensing, you can use the cruise control where it keeps a safe and maintain the distance between you and the car ahead of you. It will slow down and accelerate to mimic the car ahead of you. I hope you and your wife will enjoy the vehicle and be safe during your travels.
