As a 2018 ridgeline owner, here's how road departure and LKAS work in the ridgeline. 1)Ok, button on the lower left behind the wheel on, little button on the steering wheel that looks like a steering wheel between lane lines off - you're in road departure mode. If you start to go off the road, the steering wheel vibrates and a warning comes on telling you to steer the truck. 2) Now, lower left button on, steering wheel button on, you are in LKAS. The camera will hunt for lane lines, when it finds them, the lane line graphics on the dash change from white-outlined black rectangles to solid white rectangles. Once that happens, the truck steers itself to stay in the lane. Its nifty. It will even take shallow turns on its own.
Late reply sorry. I love it. I'm not a fanboy either, I'm just really think Ridgeline is amazing. Same size as a Tundra, maybe a few inches less? I park mine at work in parking garages, and the bed doesn't hang out of the parking spot like it would in a full-size truck.
You post the most detailed auto reviews on UA-cam. I wouldn’ Be surprised if the car manufacturers watch your videos, to learn more about their own cars.
I own this exact truck except mine has black interior. I absolutely love this truck. After owning an F150 and 4 different Tundras (all great trucks) I finally wised up and bought a truck that fits my needs and lifestyle. My previous trucks were wayyyyy more truck than I needed. Towing a 4500# camper is the most demanding task for any of my trucks and the Ridgeline does remarkably well. Its as quiet and comfortable as my wife's '14 Lexus GS350 and just as fuel efficient. If you are thinking of buying one, DO IT! You won't regret it.
Dan, excellent buy. I have a 2017 RTLE that suits my needs to a tee. You couldn't have stated it any better and my Ridgeline is definitely a keeper. Enjoy!
Best truck I've ever owned. Came from a Crewmax Tundra and also had a Land Cruiser. Gas-guzzling pigs, with almost none of the functionality, usefulness or efficiency. I'm not sure I'd ever get a different truck than a Ridgeline. I hope people keep buying them so Honda will keep making them.
@2:47 Another neat little thing about the proximity key, you can roll down all 4 windows with it. Press the unlock button twice and hold it, and all the windows will start to roll down. @11:20 On my RTL Ridgeline, when I go to open the trunk it'll beep and unlock it if I have the keys on me. I don't need to use the physical key.
I've seen 2 previous generation Ridgelines for sale with nearly 400k miles and still going. My neighbor has a 2017 RTL-E and I always have a view of its profile from my kitchen window. It sits low and the width of the body seems to dwarf the tires, so visually I'm not a fan. He has the upgraded headlights and doesn't like them, says there's a sharp cut off of brightness. Also, back doors don't open wide enough, but overall he's happy. I watched a video of the Tacoma and Ridgeline pulling their max up the Rockies. The Honda handled it smoothly and the Tacoma screamed its way up, wow that was loud!
Thanks Mike for your informative and entertaining description of this vehicle. I have been looking at the canyon and Colorado and now you've convinced me to go ahead and check out the ridge line before I purchase. Thanks I appreciate it
I just bought my fourth Ridgeline (2018). I learned more about this car from your video than I did from reading the manual. The Manual is the only inferior thing I have found about this truck.
Mike: Excellent video!!!!!!! YOU should be writing the book on car videos. If you only knew some of the moronic ones I've had to suffer through!! Thank you very informative.
Honda engineers nailed this one. Based on the increasing reviews on YT...this " truck" is a winner. A truck for the masses. I had to mention the pointing finger and the windshield shade is very creative. One of the best review I'd seen. This truck is growing on me. Gotta save up. Thanks!
Wish they hadn't changed the exterior so much from the last generation that was my favourite thing about them! Everything else besides standard front wheel drive looks good though!
I think this is my next Truck! Sorry Civic you gotta go lol. This Truck looks great for work...I need the outlet in the Bed, the side swinging trunk gate is awesome. Thanks for the video
Sorry Mike, my mistake, it was the Ford station wagons starting in 1966. Honda wins this one for trucks. I bought a new Accord EX-I in 1986, japanese made. the best car I ever owned.
1962- 1964 Corvair Rampside had a pretty good idea - www.oldcarsweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/1964-Rampside-3.jpg. The Corvair kept a spare engine in the trunk, while the Ridgeline is just a trunk. ;-)
That’s a really nice station wagon,I want one! I hear it has after market wings available for really long trips. Can it motor boat? I like to motor boat. So the yellow hand prevents human finger printing of the navigation station.
I good as I think the Ridgeline will allow me to downgrade from my full size truck and still fit my needs, I'm really interested in the VW Atlas Tanoak concept and I hope VW builds it.
Yup. MikesCarInfo just posted a 2018 Accord review that shows it. The display is very similar, but since it has physical buttons and knobs it should be much easier to operate it without having to actually look screen while driving. Hopefully they will decide to use the new unit throughout their entire product line.
Nice review! I know the in-bed trunk locks but does the tailgate lock? I heard that it did not lock on the 2017 model and want to know if they changed this for the 2018 model year.
MikesCarInfo I wonder if it might lock with the keyfob much like a rear hatch might on an SUV or Hatchback? My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder hatch locks when you push the lock button on the remote. I am considering the Ridgeline but having a tailgate that locks is a necessity for me.
WOW! I was looking for a review on this and I didn't understand a word he said cause I couldn't stop laughing. Why mess with my head the pointer came out then a real hand came out then the pointer then the hand. Once he finger the emblem it was all over for me, I haven't laugh that hard in a long time. Got me upset when the video was over and I hard to replay it again.
I prefer the the look of the 2012/13/14 Sport Ridgeline the best.... And there is no significant performance changes offered by the 2nd Gen Ridgeline to offset the bland/boring looks...
No Steve that is an invalid correction. The technology is called "Proximity key". The trees in this video are in the proximity of the vehicle however if I stood near the trees with the key it would not be "close" enough for car to recognize the key. When I say "close proximity" it clarifies the degree and has more meaning regarding the actual use of the technology. One of the main concerns with the proximity key system is that an intruder can open the door as you walk away or towards the vehicle (or open a door on the opposite side). The proximity system only works within about 4 feet of the side of the car you are on thus eliminating that threat. www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2015/02/close-proximity.html
I am not trying to be mean here but, Good Lord, it's not an invalid correction. Simply look up the word proximity and then look up the word close. It's tautology at its best. In your post you have performed mental gymnastics to describe the same word twice. I don't know how this has become part of the American lexicon. However, I do like your video and I do like the Honda RIdgeline!
Steve Thomas I appreciate corrections and thank you for helping me out. I am speaking to a vast audience and I use the name of the technology and still I need to clarify the degree of proximity otherwise I will literally get 1000s of questions, clarifications, complaints, and misunderstandings. Through trial and error I have narrowed down certain words to say to convey the topic with the least amount of misunderstandings. Perfect English or not it works really well to inform people :)
Fair enough, it was really more a rant than anything, so I really didn't mean any ill intent. That said, it is amazing how good UA-cam's logic is as when I started watching your video, the first ad was for Grammarly,. I don't know whether to laugh or cry...
Having owned 3 different gen 1 Ridgelines over the last 9 years I can tell you the on road feel, comfort, quiet ride, electronics and overall feeling and functionality of the Ridgeline are and offer a superior experience to all other mid range trucks available. This largely carries over to the new gen, but only problem is, what used to be a modestly impressive truck/hummeresque look with some unique appeal just went away.....the new design is very pedestrian and bland. With the new Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger (especially the 2019 Ranger Raptor) you can be sure I'll be switching over from my 2013 Ridgeline to the 2019 Ranger Raptor....go look for yourself. Yes the Ridgeline is quiet, smooth, it just looks like hell and its lost it's way visually. Nissan, Hyundai, Ford and Chevy are going to take marketshare from the Ridgeline because they are sexy and offer a "tougher" more aggressive look and experience. Unless Honda reskins the #Ridgeline and unless the Ranger is a total bomb which I seriously doubt, expect to see my 2013 Ridgeline up for sale as I upgrade. So disappointed because Honda has so much promise but where they are very aggressive in the car designs, if I wanted a bland pilot I'd go buy one.
I don't think I will go with Ford. Mainly because I prefer the naturally aspirated 6 in the Ridgeline. Pretty sure Ford will be going all turbo for the lineup which I don't like. Personal preference. Additionally much of my disdain for Ford currently is the layout of the cabin. Honda has a knack for layout, comfort and convenience that is difficult to top also IMO. Even though I don't like the look I will likely look past it as the beauty in this one is def only Skin deep. I can respect that.
if your going on a long trip , staying at a motel etc, and you have gear in the tailgate of your honda ridge line, you have to move it either in side the cab or in the trunk of your bed , anything can be stolen , but come on honda...
Im not defending the non locking TG, but what items can be stolen off the back of a non-locking tailgate that cant just be lifted by hand over the sides of the bed just as easily?
I remember that to. Cracked dashboards, faded and cracked vinyl, falling headliners, rust developed under paint, poor visibility headlights, adjusting the points on the distributor :) I sure am glad all that is in the rear view...
I have a 2006 Acura RSX with 180k miles. It sits in a driveway in the weather and sun. Almost everything inside is soft to the touch and and still looks and feels great. It also has black synthetic-leather seats that look fantastic. I have also seen or evaluated thousands of trade-in vehicles... modern vehicles hold up really good to weather and a fairly high amount of abuse/neglect.
I've been driving my 2006 Ridgeline for 12 years in the heat of TX. It has the soft touch components and while they're a little worn where there is normal contact from my arm, nothing has cracked, faded, or deteriorated.
Where's the volume knob, locking tailgate and wider opening rear doors?? 🤔I really want this vehicle but those three items are a deal breaker. Especially non locking tailgate
Im not defending the non locking TG, but what items can be stolen off the back of a non-locking tailgate that cant just be lifted by hand over the sides of the bed just as easily?
Bought a 2018 RTLE... Truck is awesome and versatile if you have $38k to spend on a new vehicle... volume adjustment on steering wheel is perfect, no need for knobs on dash as I would have thought. In bed trunk locks with doors. There is a tailgate locking after market mod available if that’s a huge deal for you - on UA-cam. Rear doors opening wider would be nice but as long as you’re aware, it’s not a big deal. Good luck!
The purpose and having a locking tailgate besides securing items if you have a top, is to keep people from stealing your tailgate off the back of your truck, which is a very popular thing to do anymore!
now if they only put a lock on the tailgate like most trucks, dumb is that dumb does, i know there is an aftermarket lock , but honda pushes there hard tonneau cover , but the dam tailgate doesnt lock, are they just stupid fyi..
It's uglier in 4K! I don't care how great a conversion mini-van may be for some people this is the ugliest thing honda has put out in a long time. A "truck" for people who don't really know what truck means.
Who mentioned anything about a Dodge Dakota???The Dummy must have mentioned that! I personally prefer to support American vehicle manufacturers. That being said, I am a hater of the ridgeline, mostly because it's ugly as hell!
Please do not buy this junk, Honda insult us as consumers to invent this junk that their engineer copy from a Subaru Baja car that look like pickup . We as consumers needs a real truck not a car. I have a 2012 thinking the 2017 ridgeline will be better then the 2012. I'M very disappointed of Honda manufactured . Please do not buy any latest ridgeline from them.
MikesCarInfo I refuse to let it go. I'm a Honda fanatic and I'm to start a campaign for consumers not to buy this junk. I start on youtube first and will go on Facebook pretty soon.
Well if this is what you are interested in then it would be more effective if you outlined in detail (objectively) why this vehicle is not a good choice. Just making comments calling it "junk" is not going to sway many people. Make a video with all the objective info and share that video.
MikesCarInfo - I own a 2017 Ridgeline RTLE (Had for over a year now). By far the best Vehicle I have ever owned. Awesome quiet ride, luxurious interior - Great for loading my Dirt Bikes on the back, Impressive Off-road capability’s, Decent Gas mileage- “can’t say enough positives on these awesome Trucks! (Its unfortunate you can’t intelligently discuss your issues you have with these vehicles- instead of just Bashing them without any explanation)
Anony Mous You don't have to be a rocket science to know that Honda engineer built a trash car for a truck. Do yourself a favor go test drive the real 2015 Honda ridgeline truck and when you done bring that trash back at the dealership for scrap yard.
As a 2018 ridgeline owner, here's how road departure and LKAS work in the ridgeline.

Are you happy with the Ridgeline? I'm thinking of an awesome Tundra but I feel it maybe to big for my city commutes and city living.
Late reply sorry. I love it. I'm not a fanboy either, I'm just really think Ridgeline is amazing. Same size as a Tundra, maybe a few inches less? I park mine at work in parking garages, and the bed doesn't hang out of the parking spot like it would in a full-size truck.

Dan Wells agreed! I love my Ridgeline 2017!!
Dan Wells im getting mines in 3 or 4 months

Honestly, that pointer is amazing. Love watching these videos right before bed. Cheers from London!

Dunning Kruger I can do that on my 2005 odyssey. Nothing new to Honda owners.

Thanks Mike for your informative and entertaining description of this vehicle. I have been looking at the canyon and Colorado and now you've convinced me to go ahead and check out the ridge line before I purchase. Thanks I appreciate it
Which truck did you end up getting?
I just bought my fourth Ridgeline (2018). I learned more about this car from your video than I did from reading the manual. The Manual is the only inferior thing I have found about this truck.
Just bought one and this was a great way to get a tour and understand all the features. Great job.
Mike: Excellent video!!!!!!! YOU should be writing the book on car videos. If you only knew some of the moronic ones I've had to suffer through!! Thank you very informative.
OK Mike, you had me at the big yellow hand
Lol .. they hand had me laughing 😆
Tyler Collins that was hilarious haha
had me saying wtf too
I love the yellow hand... not sure what I'm going to use it for, but I need one.
Honda engineers nailed this one.
Based on the increasing reviews on YT...this " truck" is a winner. A truck for the masses.
I had to mention the pointing finger and the windshield shade is very creative. One of the best review I'd seen.
This truck is growing on me. Gotta save up. Thanks!
lol, I loved the little hand :) thanks for the video! love the Ridgeline
I really appreciate all of the truck specs you wrote in the description.Thank you!!
Wait, did I see a yellow hand pop out?
bruhh when he pulled out the pointer stick i started dying 😂😭
Thank you... Please share this video if you can :)
Wish they hadn't changed the exterior so much from the last generation that was my favourite thing about them! Everything else besides standard front wheel drive looks good though!
Great run through. Cant wait to see this in person when I buy my new truck.
You sir, have the best content on UA-cam. I subscribed right away!
Very good comprehensive overview. Excellent and informative.
Top notch review as always!
One of the best reviewers!!! Both you and the hand.
I think this is my next Truck! Sorry Civic you gotta go lol. This Truck looks great for work...I need the outlet in the Bed, the side swinging trunk gate is awesome. Thanks for the video
I literally only watched his car reviews was just for the rubber hand
Excellent video. Thanks. That pointer needs to be used in a pentagon video explaining some weapons system lol.
Great review. If the Ridgeline was available here in Denmark I would buy one!!
the 2-way tailgate was on trucks before you were born, I do like your videos, well done.
Really back in the 1960's?... what truck?
Sorry Mike, my mistake, it was the Ford station wagons starting in 1966. Honda wins this one for trucks. I bought a new Accord EX-I in 1986, japanese made. the best car I ever owned.

Hey Mike. Love your videos man. I was wondering if you could possibly review the sport? Also is having the bed speakers an option for the sport trim?
Very slick. Nice job Honda
How many of those features are not available on the base model?
I love the print color
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THE BART SIMSON HAND ........ BART WOULD BE PROUD...
LOVE THE FINGER!!
Great video can you do a 2018 Ford f250 video
Did they ever put a lock on the tailgate?
+Kevin Scott Not yet
Hey Mike, does Honda offer remote start for the Ridgeline?
How many trim levels is there in the ridgeline?
wtfwc There are 3, gay-gayer-and super gay. Lol
When is Honda going to change the timing belt into a timing chain on this engine!
Did you get to try out the in-bed speaker of the Ridgeline? Btw please do a review on a 17/18 Chevy Cruze. It's my first car.
Speaker demo: ua-cam.com/video/MzAWS-LwCvE/v-deo.htmlm59s
Cruze: ua-cam.com/video/2dZFGeUCZK4/v-deo.html
A K I’ll review a Chevy Cruze for you real quick. Junk.
does it have a radiator cooler separate to the main radiator?
I like that color . What's the M.S.R P. ?
Great review Mike. It sucks they left the same dumb radio in it from last year.
Dave Small I love the radio now that I'm used to it! Would never go back to knobs! Just takes getting comfortable with it!
Marilyn Barker - I was hoping that it would get the same one that Honda is putting in their other vehicles, like the Accord or Odyssey.
I didn't realize Accord, Odyssey have different radios!
Yup. MikesCarInfo just posted a 2018 Accord review that shows it. The display is very similar, but since it has physical buttons and knobs it should be much easier to operate it without having to actually look screen while driving. Great in-depth video as always, looking forward to the 2018 F-150 in-depth and night shots.
Im dying because of the hand lol.
Is it true? No free oil change for all Hondas? Only got the first one at 5k free and was charged for my 10k change.
It depends on the dealer and the sale agreement.
@@MikesCarInfo I just got mine this week. As you say it depends on the dealer. I have 2 years of free oil changes.
Hey Mike do the 2018 Ford Expedition!
Nice review!
I know the in-bed trunk locks but does the tailgate lock?

My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder hatch locks when you push the lock button on the remote.
I am considering the Ridgeline but having a tailgate that locks is a necessity for me.
I didn't notice any wires going into the tailgate for the actuator. Besides it would usually still have a key hole in addition to the actuator.
Trumpett73 Yes the tailgate locks, it's in the glove compartment.
Trumpett73 I know because I reviewed it
Can you do a video on a Jeep Patriot possibly silver plsssss
I very interesting Honda

belt
Why do you use a pointer
if your going on a long trip , staying at a motel etc, and you have gear in the tailgate of your honda ridge line, you have to move it either in side the cab or in the trunk of your bed , anything can be stolen , but come on honda...
Gear in tailgate? do you mean under bed storage? Any thing can be stolen out of any truck bed.
Im not defending the non locking TG, but what items can be stolen off the back of a non-locking tailgate that cant just be lifted by hand over the sides of the bed just as easily?
When can we have it in South Africa
Ridgeline made for N. American market for over a decade, 2018 sells for approx. $35 000, it may never be sold in S Africa.
I never understood those stupid lines dealerships put on the side of vehicles. What's the point?
how much
I am Ridgline all the way baby
nice hand... had me laughing hard
In depth means showing all features. You mention some of the features but do not actually them in use.
1:43 Aaaagh! That sh*t scared me...I'm like, WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH HIS HAND???!!!😮
It tends to trigger emotions :)
Hahaha the yellow hand
I remember soft touch from the 70's and 80's. They stopped using it because it would crack after the sun would beat on it for 6 or 7 years. Not a fan.

Good luck!
The purpose and having a locking tailgate besides securing items if you have a top, is to keep people from stealing your tailgate off the back of your truck, which is a very popular thing to do anymore!
what was that pointer yellow hand thingy lol
It's a pointer. It points at stuff :)
you seem to be the best with reviews so i would say your a trend setter, go for it...
now if they only put a lock on the tailgate like most trucks, dumb is that dumb does, i know there is an aftermarket lock , but honda pushes there hard tonneau cover , but the dam tailgate doesnt lock, are they just stupid fyi..
you don't talk about how much you can tow
Full specs are in the description.
Are this model made in us or japan please contact me
taq kisra USA made. See window sticker at the end of video.
No lane camera
iam the interstellar the beyonder of free thinking Yes there is on the RTL trim only.
when you lock your truck folks with the fob , it doesnt lock the tailgate,,,,, ugggg
james seaver ... fob locks the in-bed trunk. The truck bed is open, so locking the tailgate wouldn’t be so helpful.
Unless you have a cover on the bed
Irked me that they changed it so the base trim can't get awd anymore. That basically makes awd a ridiculous $6,000 option.
did his wife think of this:)
I came here because the GMC Sierra Copied this
Very nice featured truck. Small and cute. I would buy it for my little girl but its ugly AF. Even so great vid and funny yellow hand :D.
i will never buy no other bakkie but ford only
Good for you
Go burn your money on your American cars
Their going to need a lot of attention and money to keep them running after 10yrs
truck with independent front and rear suspension? god really has abandoned us
That short bed is as useless as it could be.
ROB NAVAEI longer than tacoma and wider...wut
a car trying to be a truck
Such a joke of a “truck”
It's uglier in 4K! I don't care how great a conversion mini-van may be for some people this is the ugliest thing honda has put out in a long time. A "truck" for people who don't really know what truck means.
Chris K lol. Ok dummy, if a 2-door rear wheel drive dodge Dakota is a “truck” then the ridgeline is a tank.
Who mentioned anything about a Dodge Dakota???The Dummy must have mentioned that! I personally prefer to support American vehicle manufacturers. That being said, I am a hater of the ridgeline, mostly because it's ugly as hell!

Better than a sucky tundra
Please do not buy this junk, Honda insult us as consumers to invent this junk that their engineer copy from a Subaru Baja car that look like pickup . We as consumers needs a real truck not a car. I have a 2012 thinking the 2017 ridgeline will be better then the 2012. I'M very disappointed of Honda manufactured . Please do not buy any latest ridgeline from them.
I got an idea. How about YOU don't buy it and allow other people to decide what is best for them.
MikesCarInfo
I refuse to let it go.

You don't have to be a rocket science to know that Honda engineer built a trash car for a truck. Do yourself a favor go test drive the real 2015 Honda ridgeline truck and when you done bring that trash back at the dealership for scrap yard.
That lower front bumper with those cheap looking lights has to go !!!
makes it look like an odyssey
