Someone with a good take. You know what’s fun about the runback to Cool Ranch Smelter? As you get into higher ng+ cycles, more and more red phantom enemies are added. A red phantom Iron Golem is placed next to his kin at the boss fog. Go up more ng+ cycles, and a red phantom Astrologist is placed right at the boss fog itself! Other challenge areas probably did the same, but I can’t recall what they changed.
Only the horse run is actually worth complaining about, and it isn't even about the enemies, just the snow/fog. The enemy's have very good audio tells and whatnot, so you can dodge them blind anyway. That's even if you need to do a runback at all... by the time you're at these bosses, you should be good enough to 1-attempt the bosses, it is the actual run that will kill you a few times first. DS2 is best souls game~
That is so cool. And yeah I get these areas are frustrating, but they’re also meant to be that way. They’re a challenge for players wanting more, these were essentially the super bosses of the DLCs.
Hot Take for this channel: You just explained why it's a terrible design. I'm not running any summons on my first playthrough ever on any Souls game. And no one should ever be forced to use a mechanic that is supposed to be optional.
how are you forced to use it? These areas are entirely optional for people who want more from the dlc. And theyre not impossible for solo players, just a bit harder.
I find it so funny that one of the biggest complaints about ds2 is the number of enemies in the areas, but one of the most praised parts of ds2 is how the ng+ adds more enemies lol
I haven’t played dark souls 2 yet, I’m planning to get it soon. I heard the runbacks are bad but I also see people saying people just blow that out of proportion and all the “bad” runbacks are optional mostly if not entirely. I don’t play co op so I probably won’t do what this video is doing but this video still makes me want to give DS2 a go.
I’ve recently went through these areas again and one of them is actually dummy easy. The shulva gank squad run is easy as long as you dodge roll through the area and know where to drop for the least amount of petrifying needle statues. The air alonne run back is much harder imo.
As someone who only played the DLC offline years later on Steam, I had no idea this was the case. And I feel genuinely cheated that nobody has pointed this out. The multiplayer has always been my favorite part of From's games, pre-Scholar DS2 included. I know some people don't like it, but it's disingenuous to not mention the included and intended mechanic in the most difficult areas of the game.
I have run ds2 so many times as it is the first one I had that I boiled it down to a science at this point and the dlc no loger cause me any issues nor the red phantom enemies
A loud part of the fandom is online coping and seething, working themselves into a frenzy about what the correct souls experience should be and FromSoft is literally like “we don’t even know what a souls game is supposed to be, we’re just trying new stuff that seems cool to us.”
i enjoy how this guy is one of the only people defending ds2 and most of his defenses are "the complaints are invalid because the players are doing it wrong" ds2 was the first dark souls game i played but even i can admit that it's just not as well put together or fun to play as ds1 or even ds3
"Fuck solo players, they dont deserve to have fun"- whoever designed The Frigid Outskirts. If the area is only fun in one specific way, it's not well designed.
@RandomName893 like it was already mentioned they're optional areas. There is no exclusive item or boss there. Secondly if you insist on playing solo in an area meant for coop where you're even given a handful of npc summons in case you don't want to or can't play online that's on you not the developer. Lastly the souls game get consistently credit for screwing the player over why is it here such a big deal?
@@holler_pit5243 saying it's optional and they give you NPCs doesn't magically make it well designed. Dark Souls is known for being difficult but fair, except The Bed of Chaos, even Miazaki thought that was bad. People wouldn't hate it nearly as much if the reindeer were less difficult, or if there were less of them, or if visibility wasn't limited; Frigid Outskirts was designed solely for difficulty with some NPCs offered when they realized they made a shit area.
@@RandomName893 No they designed the area just as in their previous dlcs as coop areas and as that it's works just fine. Saying it's optional and that they give you NPCs is a sign to a strict solo player that they don't have to engage with the content but leaving the option there for offline players or players who can't find online summons. How is this a design flaw?
Yeah... but the areas and bosses still suck regardless. The enemies are annoying and all the bosses are unoriginal. Interesting concept, poor execution
i think while your points are fully valid, it doesnt take away that they suck for singleplayer There was always the option of a closer respawn point for solo play to make it more.enioyable.

Dope music used, Fate
check out the full vid, used all kinds of fate music
Tbh never knew about that, pretty cool idea letting ppl without the dlc join ppl with it

I find the snow storm in Elden Ring to be worse, as at least the snow storm in DS2 occasionally stops.

Bro, the fridge outskirts has three NPC’s ready to help you out and that is one of my most favorite areas in my game just because of that

Playing them solo still sucks but I can definitely see the appeal of them when the multiplayer was maasive
Even with 2 people you’re still gonna get fucked up lmao
Had no idea that what the gravestones were for
God damn I never knew that that’s fuckin cool. Makes me wanna actually play ds2 again.
People who were too dumb to get it but too gud and just soloed them 🗿
I didnt understand the assignment but still passed anyway lol

awesome idea, awful execution, half of DS2

Ah yes. People frequently complain about the designs of these areas. But what they didn’t know, is that they were purposefully designed this way. 🤯

they give you more npc summons than anywhere else. you're supposed to use those here
@@BabsOfEaoThats exactly what I do everytime! I use the summons to get to the boss and then kick them out and do the boss solo...
No I’m sorry even in multiplayer they are absolute abominations ds2 is a bad game people just have to admit it
Frigid outskirts is easy, you never need to face an enemy.
ds2 is awful
