@@nurwardina8862 Hard Disc? What are you talking about? Like a Hard drive? That's what I said. Photos and videos are quite large, and pen drives aren't suitable for long term storage.
@Dr Troll For games, it really depends on the game and how often it loads. If the game is large but doesn't load often, you can just run it on the HD. If you have games that have long loading screens and load often, it's best to install those on an ssd. But I would always store huge personal files like video and photos on an HD. It is larger storage for way less money, plus you will write to the HD way more if you're always moving files. SSDs will deteriorate much faster the more files you write, and you won't be writing your operating system or installing programs often. You'll mostly be reading data with those once installed.
Don't be brash there are SSD's out there with more storage it is just much more expensive, HDD's don't have a single advantage over SSD's other than price
Sad Panda Any SSD over 1 TB is way out of the price range of the average consumer (and 512GB models are borderline pushing it for most). The cost per GB is a few cents on a regular HDD compared to $.60 - $.80 per GB on an SSD. HDD's still maintain the advantage of price and total capacity compared to an SSD ($100-200 for a 1-4TB HDD drive, compared to $800-2000+ for a 1-4TB SSD). The only benefit an average user will see is overall speed and responsiveness to their system (no FPS boost). Most people right now only need a small capacity SSD for an OS and commonly used programs. Also, that link you provided: $28000 for a 4TB PCIe SSD. Completely not worth it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a way to reduce SSD wear if you have a SSD for your OS and an HDD for general storage. You can set your browser to always ask where to save downloaded files. So instead of downloading a movie into your SSD and then moving to your HDD, you download directly to your HDD. This method may greatly increase your SSD lifespan because you are not writing and erasing as much, especially if you like movies.
It's funny cuz watching this in 2023, I just bought a Western digital blue notebook 2.5 inch SSD 1 TB for like $65 to put in my computer. Crazy to think how much cheaper SSDs have gotten.
The Bible can be summed up in 1 word. Jesus. Jesus means salvation. But you may say “what do I need to be saved from?” Sin and its consequence (which is Hell-the wrath of God). But you may say “I don’t Sin”. Jesus said all humans have sinned in thought, word, or deed, so either you are lying, or Jesus is lying. On the topic of sin have you ever lied, stolen anything, spoken abusively to or about someone, Swore, Blasphemed God’s Holy name, lusted after the opposite sex, had premarital sex, cheated, hated someone? Jesus died on the cross and experienced the wrath of God on Himself in order for you to be forgiven and reconciled with God. I don't think it's accurate to say writing to SSDs will wear them out "fairly quickly". I think new ones are rated something like 50GB written on them per day for 10 years, before they even start to degrade, and when they do - your data is not lost, you just have less space, while an HDD just fails.
Hard Drive don't always just fail. Some Hard Drives are good enough to see their capacity shrink. My old Seagate Hard Drive is now 13 years old. The original capacity was 160GB. After 13 years of heavy use, the capacity is now 143GB. Some Hard Drives however die within a year.
+QuantumBraced So true. This myth is due to early SSDs from about 2005 wearing out fast. 10 years later and the cheapest SSD you can buy will last much longer than a typical HDD. Longevity testing suggests that under extremely heavy use of 100GB per day writes, a cheap SSD will last around 50 years. I write about 30GB per day to mine and I'm a reasonably heavy user, so for me it will last around 100 years. Of course there will be examples of defective devices that fail sooner, but I expect that the majority of SSDs will outlast my own lifespan.
He should’ve mentioned the fact that SSDs are more susceptible to breaking down if they are not used for a while. HDs are superior for archival storage because you can just put them in your closet long term. SSDs need to be used relatively frequently for the transistors to not break down
Whether stored in HDDs or SSDs, backup important files onto the Cloud. If both the HDD and SSD fail, you still have everything important in the Cloud that you can retrieve later.

Main reason your boot up time with whatever hdd storage o.s. installed-solution you had was because you had a shit ton of start up programs trying to launch/run in the background UPON START UP. aka in msconfig ( if in xp, vista and 7 and ctrl shift esc for task manager then start up tab for windows 8). Otherwise normal start up time for just one to three programs on xp is no more than 1:30 tops and most often right at one minute for 7200 rpm hdd as a worst case scenario. 1:30 for 5400 rpm hdd's in that exact same scenario. I'm speaking from 14 years of experience so not trying to rub anything in. Just giving you some specs/pointers to "measure" by when it comes to start up times in windows o.s.'s vs the hardware you're using and amount of start up programs. Also TYPE of start up program plays a role. MOST antivirus suites are hardcore heavy on cpu usage upon system start up. Congratulations on your EXCELLENT choice of ssd purchase. SSDs have limited write rates, which means that they will wear down because they rely on electricity to store data. Hard drives are much more reliable and easier to restore data because they have things like S.M.A.R.T. and the data doesn't decay as the electricity or data loses its charge.

If you only need that much storage, I'd recommend picking up a 120GB SSD, not a bad idea if you don't need much storage and it would work incredibly quickly. ;)
Well no, because with storage you are probably going to be writing to the disk more, and the more you write, the more you will wear out the SSD. It would probably be cheaper for you to get a 50 GB SD card.
***** No, HD can handle more write cycles. SSD can handle similar reads, but wear out faster the more you write to it, which is why it's recommended to only use them for accessing programs and not using them for tasks that constantly write. It's more of a faster way to run programs than to use as a conventional hard drive.
Speaking of reliability, I have an 80gig MAXTOR ATA HDD from 2001 and it is still completely functional,it is true, that it is kinda slow now,and making weird noises, but HDsentinel says it is still 98% condition, actually that is a damn good lifetime for a HDD,considering that in ten years i used it as my main drive,it had XP,Vista,7 and I also tried WIn10 on it and it was pretty usable.
So, are you supposed to get a huge HDD for things that you dont mind being slow, and a SSD for things that need to be fast? (like games?) Do most computers come with SSDs? Is it easy to put one in a computer that doesnt have one?
I have a question? Does the capacity of a hard drive affect the speed? If not, what is the point in having so much GBs of storage if you are an individual and not a business? What is it that takes up all the storage? I want a fast hard drive so I think I will get one of the new solid state drives as they sound as if they are fast right? Why do I need 3TB of storage if I have no intention of storing 3TB of information? 240GB more than enough? Or like I asked at the start does a larger capacity make them faster as well for some reason?
Can someone please answer this question. If I am working on a desktop computer, what happens if I remove the hard drives? Like what do I need them for? Isn't the operating system installed on the computer already? Or does that erase if I remove the hard drive? Is the hard drive the disk that comes out when i press eject?
The hard drives store your operating system, and any programs on your pc. If you want to remove them, shut down your computer, find the switch on the power supply and turn that off, then unplug the power from your computer. Then it will be safe to remove it by unplugging the cables to the hard drives, and no data should be lost (make sure you know how to reinstall a hard drive if you do this). If you remove your hard drive while your computer is on, some programs and operating system files may become corrupt. The disk that comes out when you press eject is called an optical disk drive. It reads disks, but unless your system is extremely outdated, it should not contain your operating system. Your hard drives are located inside the case, and therefore usually cannot be seen without first opening the case.

Any SSD over 1 TB is way out of the price range of the average consumer (and 512GB models are borderline pushing it for most).
Jon Just bought a Samsung evo 500gb for 280$ a few days ago on a flash sale on ebay. The prices are coming down.
This method may greatly increase your SSD lifespan because you are not writing and erasing as much, especially if you like movies.
most SSDs nowadays have a really long lifespan anyway that most users will never use up
It's funny cuz watching this in 2023, I just bought a Western digital blue notebook 2.5 inch SSD 1 TB for like $65 to put in my computer.
All you have to do is repent (change from your sinful ways) and Believe in Jesus. Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
@@thereisnonegoodbutgodjohn363 wtf does this have to do with this entire topic of SSDs. No one asked you about Jesus or God! You can't just walk in here and start trying to preach.
@@Zrorro Trust me in the grand scheme of things, my reply is the only relevant thing here. The words of God are more important than absolutely anything else in the world. Some people literally die to read the Bible & the message of Jesus Christ.
If I knew you were in the way of incoming traffic id pull you out of the way. Likewise, if you were in a burning building, I’d pull you out as well. What you don’t realise is your soul is on fire hence the preaching. @@Zrorro I’m for you not against you. Jesus is not some bad Person to Believe nor is He made up (look at all the attention He gets). He is not a hypocrite either. He practiced what He preached.
It's true, but HDDs often fail due to a mechanical failure. That being said, my 200MB HDD from 1991 is still going strong!
+QuantumBraced Yeah but not always instantly. Most of the time, you'll get warnings.
SSDs need to be used relatively frequently for the transistors to not break down
i think his target audience are gamers who use their PCs everyday, I know for a fact my SSD is being used to its fullest haha

well, my laptop setup is a 480gb SSD internaly, and a 280 gb external hard drive for backups, big files and bulk data transfer, and a 16 gb flash drive for portable movement of small files (docs, presentations, etc)
I made the mistake of using a Hitachi 2TB HDD for my OS. It got more and more miserable as time went on and Windows got more bloated. Moved to SSD and it's like a completely new experience.
Still got that Hitachi, though. 7 years old and still working fine as a backup drive. Super reliable brand.
anyone else seeing the matrix line?

No it's a tiger. stay away from your old 5GB 30rpm 2mb/s write and 3mb/s read 10.5" HDD.

i switched to a samsung 840 pro recently, boot up time went from 1:44 down to just 16 seconds.
I wanted to get that one but can't afford it yet. Ended up with a 60GB mushkin chronos deluxe for my o.s. drive and still rocking my 240GB mushkin callisto deluxe for games, music, pictures, documents. Let me know if I can help. Adios
Raymond Tyson yeah i've done that start up programs and whatnot but i was still blown away at how fast it was.

Thanks a ton. Looking at some laptops to edit my videos and I know nothing about computers. Your videos are helping a lot.
Worth considering is running a RAID setup with inexpensive SATA drives. This can give both a performance boost, increased storage space and increased data security (if running RAID levels such as RAID 1 or 5, that is).
Why should God let you into Heaven?
Have you lied (even once in your entire life), looked with lust (sexual desire), dishonoured parents, stolen anything, had hatred towards someone, had premarital sex, adultery etc If you answered yes to any one of the above then you are a sinner like the rest of us.
So, I ask you again, why should God let a sinner into Heaven?
Sinners don’t go to heaven they go to hell, But we are blessed to have Jesus (God incarnate) die on the Cross and rise from the dead. If you Repent (forsake your sinful, unholy ways and live righteous instead) & Believe in Jesus as God, you will be seen as a Saint and welcomed into Heaven.
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved
so what i'm getting is that I need to store my programs like Chrome, Sony/Magix Vegas, PhotoShop etc on an SSD and save a hard drive for file storage such as photos a videos???
Yes
My first computer was an amiga 500 with 1meg of ram. lol. It had 4096 colors and rca jacks in the back for music.
I had a laptop for six years
The HDD still works correctly
Pretty slow but it does

can a computer have both a SSD and a Hard Drive?
Rogie the Dino Boy Yes it can.
most people install their operating systems and demanding games in the ssd and images, videos and audios n the hdd
Let's say i throw my OS and games on the SSD and it starts running out of room, is it possible to transfer those games from the SSD to the harddrive?
Yeah, easily
I Taper I Hi. Is that a good idea to do so? And is it better to install apps, softwares in the ssd as well?
Thanks. I just got my SSD and wow, what a great decision I recommend it highly.. Everything on the computer is so much faster, from loading iTunes to starting the computer (Windows 7), everything is literally at least twice as fast. I just turn it on, and 30 seconds later, I am in google chrome or whatever. That would have taken me like 2 or 3 minutes with my HDD! Even seems like the browser is a little faster.
And it's a lot quieter because the disk itself of course, but also because it doesn't heat up the system as much, the fan doesn't have to run as much, making it even quieter. Plus now I have a half terabyte of portable storage from my old hard drive. I got the 240GB that was plenty enough for me, definitely worth it though, about $125. I probably would have been fine with 120GB though but better safe than sorry.
+Chris Koro AND Windows 7 give it a rate 7.9 out of 7.9! SSD all the way
+Chris Koro Thats why ssd's are for boot drive only and ofcourse if ur playing games that loads alot of time like fallout
30 secs for booting? Are you still on 7!? 30 secs to boot up is jurassic already··· Windows 8.1 or 10 with SSD boots up like in 2, 4, 5 seconds already· Microsoft completely rewrote booting since Windows 8, so even if you're using a HD it always boot up before 8 seconds·
"and 30 seconds later, I am in google chrome/ jerkin it." ;)
Nah, HHD is way way better and more popular :) plus SSD is so expensive and suck strorage.
Does SSD help with gaming?
yes
Yes, if you have played Battlefield 4, you would know that the loading times are atrocious(almost 3 mins). But with SSDs, you can load the game in 20 secs. So mainly, they improve the loading time. Nothing more.
Gotcha. If i were to use an SSD for gaming, how long do you think its lifespan would be?
+Kaleb Rush long enough. Make sure to get one with warranty.
Thanks
i totaly replaced hdds for ssd, now i have 8TB of ssd storage in total
Well, I have to admit first that I'm the type of person who's too lazy and impatient to set down and read a book, but listening to audio books especially narrated by hypnotic voices, I'm looking at you Liam Neeson and Lance Henriksen, is something the brings the best of two worlds. Your compression of the Hybrid Drives and making them sound like audio books makes perfect sense to impatient creatures like me who are starting to venture out in the realm of tech. thanks
not the first video of yours i have seen, but subscribed after the, "first check to make sure it hasn't turned into a dolphin..." comment. LOL

WHEREE
i was searching for a new ssd so i watched this vid en you said 160 dollars will buy you 256gb i immedietly looked at the date 6 years ago
At around the 2:38 mark, same applies to HDDs. Clicking sound is a good indicator but there's about 1000 ways to identify if a hard drive is about to give way or not - while SSDs, being flash, you rrally have to check disk management
All Humans need to repent & Believe in Jesus. Why? Because all Humans have sinned (lied, lusted sexually, stolen, dishonoured parents etc). Avoid the fires of Hell (justice of God) and choose Heaven today. GOD IS HOLY

Ashley Johansson that's literally all I needed to k ow thankyou
SSDs have limited write rates, which means that they will wear down because they rely on electricity to store data. Hard drives are much more reliable and easier to restore data because they have things like S.M.A.R.T. and the data doesn't decay as the electricity or data loses its charge.
Ashley Johansson Ever heard of Samsung V NAND? It lasts for about 1000 years, or 2000.
the WD black 2 isnt a hybrid its a dual drive am i right?
My gaming/work setup runs ubuntu server (with lxde) on a 1tb hardrive while my home folder is on dual 1tb harddrives in raid1 while my secondary setup uses a 16gb ssd running chromeos and crouton which i can use to remotely control (and game) on my primary setup
I am really grateful for these

HDD= Pickup Truck
Ferraris are more expensive and run faster, but Pickup Trucks are cheap and carry more shit
The price isn't that bad anymore. My 240 gb ssd is only $75
Asher Peterson and for that price also i get 3.5 hdd with 2tb storage
let me guess. You bought an Sandisk SSD Plus

No more expensive SSD
How times have have changed...I bought my Crucial MX500 2TB for Php 7500 (under USD 150) a few months ago
Thanks for the detailed comparison here - very helpful.
so if I need only 50 GB of storage should I pick up an SSD ?
Hahaha. Up until recently, my main PC boot drive was 160GB *HDD*. Thankfully, I have replaced that with a 1 TB one for around $30
Wow you can get a 1tb SSD for 80 bucks now in 2019-2020
We've made it a long way in just 5 years
Yes bad use our c e dross c 5 years
back from when Linus always looked like he just came out of a shower.
I thought it was useful... Then i saw the date lol
LINUS I
